Sumatra Ecolodge is a stunning location in a beautiful part of the world. The reef in the bay is home to sea turtles, hermit crabs and many colourful fish which you can meet using the kayak or by snorkelling from the lodge.
The food brought by the boatman each day is simple and tasty. You can ask ahead if you want vegetarian food.
It was great to spend a few days in nature living in a more environmentally friendly way - something that we all must do to protect such beautiful places.
We hope to be back.
This isn't so much a negative as a heads-up - the lodge has no internet connection (there is some on the beach and around the headland), no AC, no electricity in the rooms other than solar powered lights and lots of mosquitos - though the bed is under a mosquito net. This is part of the charm of the place but make sure you know what to expect.

Very beautiful location, away from civilization
Takes a little time to understand how things (meals, etc.) work. Minimal explanation is given before or at arrival.

Hi stayed at ecolodge tropical island Sumatra Indonesia it was a great place to stay the owner was friendly, very knowledgeable and very helpful we had meals sent in by boat which were very nice and a good price the sea was lovely and warm and the beach was beautiful it was well worth the visit a wonderful experience a great place to relax or you can go snorkeling or kayaking or take a boat trip to some of the other islands 🏝 glad I went I would recommend Peter Agnes liverpool . Hardly to find a place really close to nature

The owner was very interesting to talk to. Breakfast cooked fresh, with tea/coffee offered regularly which was very nice. There is a communal fresh water shower which is very pleasant. The sea is very warm and safe for paddling near the shore. The communal seating area is a nice place to meet others and hang out.
Near impossible access to the toilet area adjacent to my bungalow for anyone with restricted mobility. The steps were slippy and very steep. A handrail is essential here. The food arrangements clearly need thinking about. They come by boat earlier in the day and are served cold later. Not great, athough there is a kitchen at the lodge with a gas supply, so that could be solved easily.

The lodge is superb in nature preservation. I feel like i’m saving the earth by staying at this lodge. Nice view from the room. Eco-consious traveller should stay here.

- The area is beautiful. The surrounding islands, ocean and jungle are fit for a nature getaway
- Owner is very warm and helpful.
- It was very difficult to communicate with the lodge to arrange transport. Admittedly we booked the night before but we tried to contact the lodge that night and all throughout the day the next day. We tried social media, calling, WhatsApp etc.
- The bathrooms are a bit run down and not very pleasant. HOWEVER, for what you pay for I can definitely understand. I think just a bit of updating to the facilities and room would be great as it can be a bit dark and dingy.
- A bit hard to get to from Padang airport

Raqai en Dana are the best! They make you feel very welcome While doing their own thing. In this way you get to know a little how they live. Raqai has a very good mindset about sustainability and the environment and Dana has a wonderful vibe and took me snorkeling and showed me Nemo! I also went kayaking and this was absolutely the best!
Nothing. Just don't expect comfort.

Stunning location. Snorkels and kayaks available for rent to explore the surrounding area. Very helpful & friendly host - he organised transport to and from the island for us plus meal deliveries. Great breakfast. Very relaxed & comfortable stay. True ecolodge.

It was unforgettable experience, three bright and pleasant days. I was met by Dana, who working there like volunteer. She patiently explained to me everything. Despite the facilities are very basic, I was enjoying my stay. Your house is facing the sea and surrounded by the forest, cheeky monkey and squirrels jumping on the trees. It feels like paradise! The owner can lend you kayak (payable) and you can explore the nearest islands (I was managed to explore most of them). The price for the room is increadibly low. The owner is very pleasant erudite man.
I found it difficult to get to the ecolodge and was ripped off twice (by boatmen and motorbike rider)

A short boat trip from the village, the Ecolodge is on a beautiful beach with interesting wildlife. Perfect for romantic gateways if you like simple facilities. Everything is very informal and easy.

We liked everything about the place, the food, the staff, the owner, the room, the location, the sitting area, the view from our balcony, the trees, the shellfish, the fish, the shipwreck and the fact that we shared the place with fewer than five other guests even when all the rooms were occupied, making it very serene and peaceful.
We enjoyed every meal that we had there and in our four days there, we were never served the same dish twice. We had various types of local fish. They were all great and very fresh. Excellent value for money at 25K pp. Even Mee Goreng in the city costs more than this.
We found the room to be very spacious, clean with lots of places to hang our clothes and place our belongings.
We also had some very interesting discussions with Rakhyne and Dana. It was great to be able to learn more about the local culture, architecture and current situation. Thank you.
We hope we'll have the chance to return.

What a place. If you like nature at his best a great reef in front GO! It's not for the luxury people but for the nature lovers it's paradise!

Amazing peace of paradise, a hidden gem, full in nature. The jungle in the back and the sea at the front. It is going back to basic, but that was all I needed. Destressing, reading books in the hammock, snorkeling, exploring the environment by SUP. The sounds of the jungle and sea, very relaxing. Very nice decorated. Great food that was brought by boat every day freshly.
Very friendly host that picked me up from the airport and brought me to Bukkitingi in his wild Rover and great music blowing out of the speakers. Of course an extra fee, but more than worth it.
The whole stay felt like an adventure!
Nothing. One of the most beautiful spots I ever stayed.

The Ecolodge lies in a small bay near a small coral reef. You could snorkel all day (they have masks, snorkels and one pair of fins) and not get tired of it, as the whole peninsula is jammed with corals. Their own place, though, is special. Because of the calm water, turtles come there to get their back cleaned. We saw plenty of them - around 20 encounters with these elegant beauties within 1 day!
Although the room is as you would expect it to be in an Ecolodge - quiet close to the jungle - the bed is comfy and has a mosquito net. There is a cold shower (with nice pressure!) and a toilet, too.
The host is really friendly and helpful and offers additional lunch and dinner as well as trips to the surrounding islands. He also can arrange pick-up from Padang.
As there is low cellphone coverage (which is a very good thing in an Ecolodge), the host might not be able to answer directly - better text him one day in advance :)

We recommend at 1000% this little isolated paradise 🥥🏝️
Raqay, the « Robinson-gard » of this island is an incredible human, who’ll give you the best tips to discover Indonesian culture for the adventurer who prefer an immersive trip with locals ☀️
Sumatra ecolodge is a tustik place where you gonna discover Robinson’s experience!
For the nature lovers, just go!

Wonderful, mystical place to relax. The huts are located directly betwen jungle and beach and offer everything you need. Of course they are quite basic, but the owner actually managed to install water and offers some basic electricity. You can snorkel, kajak, swim, relax and play games. Also the food through the boat delivery is outstandingly good!
Perfect place to relax!

The location is very very beautiful. Lots of sea turtles in the bay.
This place needs a make-over and some fixing up... We expected a bit more comfort. Communication with staff is almost impossible. The price seems pretty good, but it should be lower. We also paid more than advertised because the guy needed to make several boat trips to serve us our food. Food was sold at 25k pp, but the boat trip was 50k, the final cost was higher than expected.

Very nice accommodation on a remote beach. Kayak and snorkel can be rented at the accommodation. In the sea in front of the beach can be observed even turtles.
Food is brought 2 times a day by boat and is delicious. If you want snacks or fruits in between, it is best to take them yourself.
The accommodation is only accessible by boat.

Sumatra Eco Lodge is the best accommodation we've found so far. It's remote but it's not. It's only 10 minutes away from the nearest village but you feel like no one around. The whole beach is only for you. The corals around are beautiful and you can see turtles every high tide. The owner is amazing, seems like you can talk about almost anything with him. I was there with my wife and 1yo baby and it's very comfortable. Thank you Bang Rakay and Sumatra Eco Lodge, we had so much fun. Definitely will be back in near future.

This place is amazing! You have to get there by boat that you pay for and the it will be organized for you. The treehouses are very basic, only bed and a mosquito net in there but thats the magic. Bathroom is outdoor and a typical Indonesian one but it has a shower so thats enough for me :D tea and coffee and breakfast is free, soft drinks and beer for a fee. No food on the Island, you have to order it in advance for 25k/meal and it arrives on a boat and its delicious.
The people running the lodge are amazing, water is clean, you can see turtles and fish by snorkel or kayak, overall its a great place to chill and disconnect, so thankful to have found it <3 you will have a great time there guaranteed
I dont think theres anything i didnt like, just be prepared to get offline as there is no wifi or phone service
