About this cottage rental
How about spending a vacation in a country house that is very close to the city and all tourist activities?
While in the center people lives a normal and fast city life, in the high zones, near the mountains, the calm and country atmosphere is a reality. In this small villa composed by three nice properties you can enjoy all the calm and serenity with a wide view of the Atlantic Ocean and Funchal.
This small ‘farmhouse’ has three stone-walled houses, with different typologies and surrounded by small gardens. The houses have the name of trees that exist on our island.
This house has a bedroom with two single beds, a bathroom with shower. The house has a kitchenette and is fully equipped. Maximum capacity of two people.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD OVERVIEW
In the Choupana area you will find a restaurant which is a 2-minute drive from the property. The nearest bakery is a 5-minute drive away and the supermarket is a 10-minute drive away, close to the city center.
The city center is a 15-minute by car.
The area is calm and quiet. From here you can travel to any part of the island through the municipal roads that have connection to the highway.
Renting a car is the best option to discover the island at your own pace.
GETTING AROUND
The private transfer service is the best option to get to the flat. Contact us in advance to schedule a private transfer car with our local partners. It is cheaper than taking a taxi by your own in the airport!
GUEST ACCESS
Guests have access to all areas of the flat.
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS
We are always at your disposal to help or to answer your questions. You can contact us via our mobile numbers or by email. We will do our best to meet your requests.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS
• According to Portuguese law, all guests are required to present a valid ID. (E.g. passport, identity card).
• Check-in must be scheduled in advance. In case the check-in is not scheduled within a maximum of 48 hours prior arrival, guests will be subject to the availability of our team.
• All bed linen and towels are provided. We can also provide a crib, a baby high chair and a baby bathtub if needed. First aid kit, fire extinguisher and fire blanket are available in all properties.
• Cleaning services during the stay, as well as the replacement of bed linen, towels, and consumables, are carried out on a weekly basis. If you wish extra cleaning service this can be arrange at an extra, affordable charge. The weekly cleaning and the replacement of bed linen, towels, and consumables will not be carried out for stays of less than seven nights.
• Please be informed that a tourist ‘ecotax’ will be charged to all people staying overnight in the municipality of Santa Cruz. Therefore, all guests aged 18 or over staying overnight in holidays resorts and/or accommodation establishments will be charged € 1.00 per person/night, up to a maximum of € 5.00 per person/stay. This fee will be charged at the check-in.

You will stay in a charming cottage, surrounded by an astonishing garden and overlooking the vast, enchanting ocean. The cottage is not very new, you can see that most of its equipment has been heavily used for many years. But this is not the five star hotel that you were signing up for, so you are ok with the scratches on the sofa, broken bench on the terrace or some ants in the bathroom and just embrace the tranquility and beauty of this place. Some sad vibes with the leftovers of a SPA nearby that burned in the 2016' wildfire, hope it will be renovated soon and this beautiful levada will regain its past glamour!

We didnt meet the host, we communicated via messages, in the event of a problem, our host proved to be helpful.

We spend here for two weeks and it was so wonderful. The place was exactly like in pictures and the view was almost more beautiful. It was nice and quiet and everyone was so helpful. We didn't have car, so needed good shoes for hiking, but the bus goes also quite near and quite often.

Wunderbare Aussicht
Wir waren sehr zufrieden mit der Unterkunft.
Die Lage ist schon fast ländlich oberhalb von Funchal mit Blick auf ein Seitental und den Atlantik.
Neben ein paar feuchten Abenden, wenn der Passat die Wolken an Land treibt und sie sich oben auf Höhe der Quinta in den Bergen festhängen, hatten wir auch sonnige Abenden. Praktisch war die gute Anbindung an das Bussystem, in nur 15 Minuten ist man unten in der Innenstadt am Atlantik.
Die Anfahrt ist etwas schwierig. Am besten lässt man sich zum Eingang des ehemaligen Choupana Hill Spa Ressort leiten. Gleich darüber ist Quinta Devonia in ihrer tollen Gartenanlage.

Ruhig und Entspannt
Das Haus ist super ruhig oben auf dem Berg über Funchal gelegen. Am besten schaut man sich vorher Mal genau an wo das Navi einen lang fahren lässt, da die kürzeste Route auch die schmalste und steilste Straße ist die man finden kann, es gibt einen besseren, angenehmeren weg als den. Das Haus selber ist schon und sauber, lediglich das Bad hätte eine Sanierung nötig. Daher gibt es davon wohl auch keine Bilder. Den Außenbereich könnte man ebenfalls liebevoller und sauberer gestalten. Alles in allem waren wir zufrieden aber das gewisse etwas und der Blick für's Detail fehlt.

Great and authentic house
Great location on the mountain, away from the noise and tourism. The terrace is great and we spent many hours relaxing there and enjoying the view.
The water pressure in the shower was less than good, and the beds a little to the hard side, but I think that’s the only negative thing we have to say about this lovely house.
The drive up there was very scary! In the end we ended up taking a route via the football stadium which felt more secure, so we recommend that if the narrow mountain roads scare you a bit.

We would LOVE to come back to this charming little house!
This was one of our best vacations. We loved our charming little Nogueira house and the spacious garden with spectacular flowers and ferns and trees. We enjoyed the self catering facilities as well as the possibility to order food. The neighbourhood is quiet and pleasant. Communication with our hosts (An Island Apart) was smooth and fast. We would love to return to Madeira for another stay at Quinta Devonia.
