About this house rental
Welcome to Hearts of Maine’s Ocean Vista House, a classic Maine oceanfront seasonal getaway located in South Addison. This private three bedroom one full bath house boasts magnificent panoramic views of Cape Harbor, Nashes Head Light and the outstretched open ocean beyond.
The village of South Addison is nestled along shores of Cape Harbor, a small quiet and scenic fishing village with an eclectic mix of residents who enjoy friendly banter and helping their neighbors. Guests who vacation in the area love strolling the quaint village streets and purchasing lobsters and crabs at the local wharf at very affordable prices.
This house features a spacious master bedroom with king size bed, deck access and a wake-up-to-die-for harbor and ocean view. It also has two guest rooms, one with a queen size and the other with two twin beds. The three bedrooms and single full bath all circle around the warm and homey great room, with its large ocean view glass windows, comfortable living area, dining area and cozy kitchen.
A great feature of this house is its large wrap-around deck that is perfect for family cook-outs, guest gatherings, harbor watching and just overall lounging and sun bathing. There is a harbor path that leads from the front of the house to the seashore, and is a great start to shoreline exploring.
The cottage also provides WiFi Internet access, satellite TV with DVD, radio/CD player, Jotul woodstove, firewood, all linens, cook-ware, place settings, utensils, washer, dryer, and gas grill.
If you like to hike/walk in the outdoors, there are some lovely trails in the area. Closest to the rental house is the Ingersol Trail in South Addison. The trailhead is accessed in the back part of the church parking lot in the village of South Addison and the trail is a relaxing walk to the shores of Wohoa Bay and Moosabec Reach. The house is also within 30 minutes of additional coastal hikes at Great Wass Island and at McClellan Park in Milbridge as well as inland mountain hikes at Catherine’s and Tunk Mountains in Township 10. Fine dining and family restaurants are located in Machias, and Milbridge, offering terrific seafood and local color within 20 to 40 minutes from the house.
Good fishing abounds in the lakes and ponds around the Machias and Cherryfield areas, or wet a line for trout in one of the nearby streams. Antique shops dot the many area coastal villages and Machias has a number of interesting shops for guests to explore.
A little further away in the fishing village of Cutler, Hearts of Maine recommends the coastal sightseeing and Atlantic Puffin tours to Machias Seal Island aboard the Barbara Frost with Captain Andy Patterson. We also highly recommend the whale watching and schooner cruises with Captain Butch Harris (Eastport Windjammers) on the Sylvina Beal out of Eastport.
Whatever your interest in a rural setting, we think vacationers will enjoy the laid-back atmosphere that this part of Downeast Maine provides.
Rental terms:
Reservation down payment of 50% of the rent + state tax total is due at time of reservation.
Balance of rent + tax total and a separate refundable $500 damage deposit are due 30 days prior to arrival.

Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are about a 1½ hours drive. The house is also 1½ hours from Lubec and Campobello Island and 1½ from New Brunswick Canada.

Amazing location with incredible views. The house is functional and had everything my family of six needed to enjoy our stay. We walked to the hiking trails at Ingersoll (beautiful!) and explored the tide pools nearby as well. Also a great home base for other adventures (puffin cruise, kayaking, Acadia, etc). We loved that the temps at the house were in the 60s while just 20 minutes away on the mainland they were in the 80s. Such a nice respite during the heat of summer!
House a manager was helpful and responsive. We had an appliance issue while we were there and she brought us a generous gift for the trouble. That’s way above and beyond customer service.
We plan to come back next year!

Rustic charm with beautiful view to the harbor.
Comfortable house with nice furnishings, and a big wrap around porch. Kitchen was well stocked with all the utensils you would need for cooking for a small group, or big family.
One bathroom worked for us, but a second one would have been better.

We spent two lovely weeks and found ourselves relaxing into the slow rhythm of South Addison. The house is exactly as described and very comfortable, we had a long period of very foggy weather so wound up spending a lot of time reading and relaxing at the house. The kitchen was super well-equipped and the beds were very comfortable. Communication with the property manager was seamless. Highly recommend it if you really want to get away from it all!

Exactly what we were looking for, for our vacation. The cabin was one of the best supplied we have ever rented. It was clean and with a well stocked kitchen. The bed in the master bedroom was comfortable and the lighting for those who like to read in bed was excellent. Looking out over the harbor through the floor to ceiling windows or the deck was beautiful. We saw deer, osprey, a bald eagle and red fox.
The living area was also comfortable with adequate lighting.
The property manager was readily available and made us feel welcome.
The only thing to note is that, depending on the kind of vacation you want to have, this cabin is not really near anything, requiring lots of driving.
Overall a wonderful spot to have a great vacation.

Everything way great for us! Clean, fully equipped property. Secluded with a wonderful view. An eagle flew by the window several times each morning. Occasional bleating from the sheep a couple doors down added to the rural setting.

The view, the wildflowers, the lighting throughout the house, the thoughtfully stocked kitchen. Everything about this cabin was awesome. Great deck across the back. Close proximity to Schoodic and golf courses, which was the focus of our trip. I have a teenage runner and a golfer, so they were super happy. Great grocery store down the road.

Perfect Downeast Getaway
The house is as described - a very comfortable but tidy vacation home with a well-stocked kitchen. We had a slight internet problem and the manager had the cable company there to fix it the next day, which is to say she was very responsive. The view, overlooking the entire cove/harbor, is extraordinary, and you could do worse than sit on the porch all day and watch eagles fly by. The town is quiet and if you are a birder its terrific, with trails nearby. The residents are so friendly we loved walking and running through the town, stopping to chat. It looks like an 18th cent. village, with a pen filled with napping pigs, cattle grazing, sheep bleating, and grasses swaying in the breeze.

Amazing views - great place to stay
The minute we opened our car door and saw the view and smelled the pines and sea air, we knew we were going to have a great week and we did. The property managers Sue & Tonya were great and super helpful. The house was very comfortable and we made full use of the deck overlooking the water. The location was great for day trips to Acadia and Lubec. The new convenience store up the road had great meat and lobsters and anything else you could need. We were depressed when we had to go home.

The cottage and property were awesome and pristine. You can get local seafood readily. The property manager texted a few times to check up on us and offer tips on local attractions . South Addison is pretty remote however and it was an average of 30 to 60 min do most activities. It is more geared towards adult quiet clientele .

This is the perfect cottage on the sea in Misty Maine. The place is clean, comfortably furnished and has a well equipped kitchen. The beds are comfortable! There is a great deck for morning coffee and evening let's sit out and look at the boat time. We had fish and lobster everyday. We hiked and walked and loved every minute of our week.

From start to finish, our dealings with the owner and property manager have been friendly, helpful, clear, and considerate. The view was exquisite, and even on foggy days the serene wooded view from the floor-to-ceiling windows was breathtaking. We spent time locally, doing short hikes and partaking in local baked goods & fresh produce, and further afield visiting West Quoddy Light, Acadia National Park, and hiking Tunk Mountain. A little slice of heaven - ours for the week. We started planning our return visit by our second day in. Lovely!

We very much enjoyed our week in South Addison. The house is great. The windows and porch offer stunning views from dawn to dusk and at night too. The house has no nearby neighbors. It’s private and quiet. The kitchen was well equipped, the wood burning stove excellent. The little hamlet is very pretty. There are close-by nature trails and beaches as well as other stunning hiking in the area.
One caveat. You can get down to the water front through the woods in the back of the house but you can’t walk or sit down there— it’s marsh land. But there are nice beaches a short drive or hike away.
We very much recommend the house, the property manager, and downeast Maine in general.
