traditional feel
outdoor onsen water temp was not hot enough and so many dead leaves in it.
4.5
Easy to find, good facilities, nice onsen including private, quiet but easily accessible by bus, excellent service.
Nothing. I plan to visit again with my family.

My bed requires a futon topper, was a very hard mattress. Carpets in room need replacing
4.5
Professionalism of all the staff and a wonderful meal for both dinner and breakfast. Facilities are well equipped and properly maintained. Public onsen and private onsen are available.

Los baños termales estaban fantásticos, todas las instalaciones muy limpias y el personal era muy amable.
Las instalaciones eran un poco antiguas, aunque se notaban cuidadas con esmero

The food was good but not splendid
Food!

Very few guest at the time, so we had the public spa, the private spa, and the in-room spa to ourselves. Beautiful surroundings 1 hour from Takayama. Spacious rooms
Hotel seemed a bit worn-down

The stay at Kazeya was really good: clean, good food, very good communication (better than other more central facilities, in fact), and very good services, last but not least, the public and private onsen. The room was large beyond expectation and everything was very pleasant.
Being a traditional inn, some things are in need of maintenance. For instance, some paper panels in the room were stained or damaged. This however did not affect us and certainly not the overall very good quality of our stay.

Loved the atmosphere here. It's tucked away in the Japanese Alps far away from any major city center. There are multiple onsens on the property: public, private, and even one in the room. I also noticed a coin laundry machine. They provide pyjamas and toiletries as well. I didn't even have to open my luggage. This place is geared towards foreigners so all staff speak English. The food was great as well. I recommend the hida beef dinner set. The beef melts in your mouth. Definitely will come again.

We were looking for a single night in an authentic ryokan with it's own onsen and Kazeya didn't disappoint. There are both private and public baths both inside and outside and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The meals were also great, highly recommended if you're in the area.

Beautiful Ryokan and wonderful meals and onsen
Hotel advised correctly but disappointing no ropeway and no walks due to threat of bear attacks. We may have chosen a difficult location had we known activities so limited.
4.5
Staff are very nice, kind and very polite. He provide clear information from the beginning. Facilities is al so varied and flexible for guest.
4.5
Yummy breakfast and dinner, private onsen and friendly staff.
The ryokan is isolated and the facilities, though functional, are a touch dated.
4.5
The onsens here are nice--outdoor & indoor options. The location is beautiful, but a bit challenging to get to via bus if en route to Kamikochi--but perfect for day trips. Once you arrive it is an easy 2 min walk and the setting is peaceful.

Beautiful property with private onsen. Upgraded to Hida beef dinner, which was delicious. Very impressed with all food served and felt very relaxed and spoilt staying here.
I arrived early thinking I could spend time at the shin hotaka ropeway which was closed for maintenance (announced after I booked) Of course nothing to do with Kazeya, and I did enjoy a walk around - just be aware the beauty of this stay is the accommodation itself and best to plan your arrival to coincidence with check-in.

It’s a beautiful little Ryokan in the stunning Takayama valley area. Nearby there’s nature walks, hikes, onsen and a lovely river. The staff all spoke English well and provided amazing vegan options for us upon advanced request. Will definitely be back here soon.
We loved the private onsen but as there were no shower facilities we weren’t sure of how to proceed as usually there are these facilities to wash beforehand next to the onsen itself. We had to go back to our room and shower which took longer and then head back to the onsen.

Very homely and clean. Breakfast and dinner were excellent as well
Nothing! Very nice place

This was a wonderful traditional ryokan experience with stunning onsens and a beautiful aesthetic. also located in a beautiful area!!!
nothing!

The staff was very friendly. It’s in the mountains so it’s very remote but that’s what we wanted. Incredible views, private onsen what more could you ask for?

beautiful ryokan, the staff was very friendly. the different baths are great, outdoor and indoor. the breakfast was very good

The room is clean, large, and spacious. Rooms are also very quiet. The whole Ryokan has a very solemn atmosphere. The staff are friendly and will take care of you. They spoke to me in fluent English, and I saw a French couple have someone speak to them in French. The Kaiseki meals are carefully prepared and curated experience, I recommend you try it at least once. There are indoor and outdoor Onsens. The outdoor onsen is a great experience, especially during the daytime, when you can see the sky. I recommend this experience 100%.
Also, great value for money. The stay is reasonably priced. The Kaiseki dinner was a bit expensive, but it is a great experience to splurge on.
It's a bit far to go to, since its in the mountains of central Japan. But it's worth a visit! There are no lunch options, so one has to take the bus to nearby tourist sites to tour and eat lunch there.

The vibes, the service and food!
Nothing much it was perfect
4.5
Comfortable onsen, comfy room and delicious meals
4.5
The room is very spacious
The staff does speak better English than average. It seems they are used to welcoming foreigners
The baths are great (apart from not being super hot), wood and stone work is very relaxing.
The food and service in general (when the staff is on site) is good
Location: Not great. The ryokan is in a small hamlet that is completely dead. The small shop has closed. The big hotel 200m away has been closed for 3 years (and you can urbex it!). The small road, without tunnels, leading to the town downhill is abandoned and barely walkable. Most of the other ryokans around have shut down too. There is only the one bus stop with 1 bus per hour per direction.
Bath temperature: it's slightly nurui. Owner says it's because foreigners like the water temperature cooler than Japanese.
Moving around: Check carefully what is open/closed before you pick your dates, because attractions (onsen, cablecar, bear park, trails) do not update their websites and after covid, many have not (and may never) reopen. If you don't have a car, Kazeya has deflated bicycles that look like they've not been maintained since pre-covid, so won't go far with them.
Booking process: weird. They had plenty of availability but make it impossible to change dates with Booking.com, forcing us to message them (and take a rather long time to answer)
