About this house rental
Our casita is decorated in a traditional way. Mexican folkart adorns the walls as well as in nichos and shelves. It is a comfortable place to stay with furniture that conforms to comfort but in a fashion that reflects the area. Refrigerated air is available in the bedroom as well as another unit that provides comfort throughout the casita.
We scrupulously clean our casita after every renter and also block our calendar accordingly (at least a day afterwards) to provide for thorough cleaning/sanitizing. While we use primarily natural products we also use disinfecting products to ensure that we are providing as much disinfecting support as possible.
Long term renters are required to pay an extra $50.00 cleaning fee every two weeks during their stay. We can arrange a convenient time when you are out and about for the cleaning.
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
Our Property
Imagine listening to the ringing of the church bells and walking out your door onto the charming plaza of Old Mesilla. Shopping at the unique shops around the plaza and dining on a variety of foods which includes our famous Mexican food.
Casita Azul is a two bedroom, one bath, 900 sq. ft. getaway. It is a historic property, which is part of the block that is listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places dating back to the 1850's. The casita was once a barn and then converted into living quarters. It is an adobe with thick walls. The ceilings are the traditional latillas (small lengths of wood) and vigas (large wood beams). The entrance is adorned with large carved, old Mexican, wooden double doors which opens to a covered portal (porch). The property owners are right next door and a common yard is shared. A newly bricked patio is available for relaxing in the New Mexico sunshine. The casita also has its own porch and access to the backyard area. It has a pet door so there is a possibility of bringing a small to medium sized dog. Please contact us if you plan to bring your pet.
As you enter the casita you walk into the kitchen which has blue Mexican tile accents, and an open living area. The rear bedroom shares the office area and a twin bed. The bathroom has a bathtub and a shower. The bathroom area has a separate heater and fan. There are two very quiet heating and refrigerated cooling units to make the casita cozy all year long. There is also a very basic utility room with a washer and dryer and a place to store suitcases and travel supplies.

Great location. Historically charming with lots of unique personal touches. Steps from Mesilla Plaza. Host left great directions. My mom was thrilled with every minute of her stay. She couldn't stop raving about all the art work, etc.

You couldn’t do better for location and charm than this lovely spot in historic Mesilla! Mere steps from the plaza, the casita Is beautifully presented with warm hospitality. Highly recommend!

This property exceeded our expectations! Historic, convenient to the square and a block from the park (for our dog). Spacious, clean, comfortable, very nice New Mexican décor, lovely courtyard. The host was thoughtful and made us feel welcome. It was truly a home away from home, one that we would enjoy staying in again.

Casa Azul is lovely and to me larger than pictured. The location is steeped in history and is literally steps from the Mesilla Plaza. Everything is clean and works well, and the house is practically silent because of the location and thick walls. Mary Helen was so helpful and accommodating, and we appreciated the warm welcome when we arrived. Comfy beds and a quiet patio for morning coffee were most appreciated. The Casita was well appointed and decorated with a sense of time and context. I very much hope to return.

Casita Azul was treat. Form it’s decor to its location. It is yards from the plaza in Mesilla, which was very convenient. Pet friendly and the host was very nice and accommodating. I would stay here again.

This property is amazing! As advertised, it is literally just a few steps off the Plaza hiding in plain sight. That said, it is quiet, private, comfortable and charming. Parking is plentiful even if you’re in a big truck. It is pet friendly. We were traveling with our dog. He loved it too!

My husband and I fell in love with the beautiful property and the serenity. We loved the little touches that made us feel at ease such as the wine, thick towels, toiletries, the soft blue lights and comfortable bedding and pillows with a cool air conditioner. Walking around the neighborhood was very nice and every place we visited was welcoming . It was a perfect way to celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary.
Only wish there was a pool and music and dancing within walking distance too.

We stayed while I had work in town, and this was the perfect spot to come back to and relax. We were looking for someplace that my better half could get out and explore while I was off working, and this definitely fit the bill. Very comfortable in its own right, with the square just around the corner, and we even enjoyed a sunset hike down one of the adjacent canals. Definitely hope to be back here in a future trip.

I would definitely come back and stay. Coffee was provided along with a bottle of wine to welcome us. We should have offered to share the wine so we could have had her personal recommendations and info about places to eat and things to see. Mary Helen seemed very nice and personable. I think her family has quite a history with the town.

We had a lovely vacation in historic Mesilla! Casita Azul was the perfect size and set up for us and our chihuahua. The traditional casita captures the wonderful character of the community and we took advantage of the perfect location by walking each day to the plaza, shops, and restaurants. We enjoyed the porch and patio, which provided a private and quiet space to relax. The weather was beautiful, the food was excellent, and the locals were very friendly. Most importantly our host, Mary Helen, was welcoming, helpful, and made sure we were comfortable.😊

Was in town for the Bataan Death March and this place was perfect. Host is on property, but is very respectful of your privacy.
Everything is as described in the listing. It’s steps away from the historic plaza and shops.
The shower was a little tricky to figure out but once done worked great.
Will try and book this property again next year.

Our 3rd time staying here, and the 4th is already reserved! The casita is both lovely and comfortable, in a great location. The hostess is a joy to communicate with, and is both friendly and knowledgeable. Our stay was, once again, delightful.

It has history, it has proximity to the Plaza, it is dog friendly, and the host is perfect.
This is my second stay here, and we will be back.

We loved staying in a home with so much history in a town with so much history. We were able to come and go as needed. The hosts made sure we were able to find our way and get in since our flights were delayed and we arrived. Around midnight. We made trips to White Sands National Park. ITT was a very convenient location.

Historical place with marvelous artwork. Right in the heart of old Mesilla. Clean, charming, comfortable, just as advertised. The washer/ dryer were convenient. Great locale for visiting area sights. Perfect for us.

We liked this property so much, we booked it for a second time. We stayed here in May 2022. The casita is cozy and well appointed. The location is great. The plaza was beautifully decorated for the holidays. The shops on the plaza are around the corner. There are great restaurants on the plaza and a few blocks off the plaza- so convenient!

My husband & I stayed 4 nights with our little dog. Everything exceeded our expectations. The host is a pleasure to communicate with. We enjoyed the convenience of walking to the great restaurants in the plaza, which is a a couple hundred feet away. Our dog gives it 5 paws.

Wonderful Adobe property in Old Mesilla. Right next to the Plaza. Jim and Mary were very nice. We enjoyed using the kitchen and grill. Will be back!

Casita Azul is beautiful, and truly a very special place. The Vigas were my favorite, and my son loved the magical decor. He said he felt so ‘comfy’. The house was spotlessly clean, 100% supplied with everything you would need. I would definitely return, and will never forget sitting in the courtyard patio drinking coffee and hearing the cathedral chime.

The location is in the heart of town in an important historic house. Very nicely appointed in Southwest style.
Mary is a wonderful host.

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Azul. The location is perfect as is the house itself. We had our little dog with us and he enjoyed running around in the court yard. Mary Helen is a lovely host. We will certainly be back.

We loved the casita and location to Mesilla historic square. The casita was clean, comfortable and convenient. The owners were accessible but appropriately distant. We would definitely stay again.

This Casita was exactly as listed: spacious, private, well furnished with full size pillows on a great king size bed. There was plenty of towels, amenities, and tourist information. It was a perfect location ~ walking distance for restaurants and shopping and easy drives for hiking in the area. Mary Helen was a great host and responded quickly. We really enjoyed Mesilla and our stay @ the Casita Azul. Thank you so much.

Spacious, well-furnished, artistically decorated, comfortable. Great location, one block from the Plaza. Great host.

The host was exceptionally hospitable and helpful. I love Las Cruces with its small city vibe, great restaurants and being near the Organ Mountains. If you go to Las Cruces be sure to go to Dripping Springs Natural Area. The 1.5 mile walk at Dripping Springs is scenic and unforgettable. The VRBO is very close to Mesilla Plaza which is a historical area surrounded by shops and restaurants.

My wife and I absolutely loved this beautiful, historic and tastefully decorated casita. It was a short walk to the town square that was filled with shops, restaurants and very friendly locals who were happy to answer any questions you might have about the surrounding area and its history. Our host, Mary Helen was great! 5 stars!

My husband and I spent 4 nights at Casita Azul in June, and came back again for a 2 week mini snowbirding trip. The location is perfect, the accommodations lovely and comfortable, and Mary Helen is a wonderful, gracious hostess. Couldn't ask for anything more. We plan to be back, it's just a matter of when!

Beautiful building, wonderfully decorated and well-stocked, comfortable and clean! Very quiet and comfortable sleeping. It’s an excellent base for Mesilla- and Las Cruces-based exploring. Excellent hosts. Highly recommend.
