Cotswold Cottage - sleeps 6 guests in 3 bedrooms
About this cottage rental
Cotswold Cottage is an idyllic Cotswold home for families or friends looking for utter peace and quiet. One thing that may strike you about Coln is its blissful feeling of calm. Guests who are fortunate enough to enjoy sunny days at Cotswold Cottage will be able to appreciate the tranquillity of its gorgeous garden. Providing plenty of open space and room, Cotswold Cottage is an ideal base from which to explore the undulating Coln Valley and rushing waters of the River Coln, or to venture further afield. Step out of the front door and you're straight into miles and miles of walking, including an idyllic 4- or 6-mile route to Bibury (famed for its Arlington Row cottages, possibly the most photographed tourist location in the Cotswolds!), where you can have a bite to eat at The Swan, The Catherine Wheel or in the café at Bibury Trout Farm. If you're staying with little ones, down the road to a safe, secure and immaculate adventure playground, complete with picnic tables and benches. Then wander downhill to the River Coln, flanked by rolling hills that are home to flocks of sheep and herds of cows - a truly bucolic scene. If you're lucky enough to catch a sunset, it'll be one of the most beautiful you're ever likely to see! Head back up the road to the Coln Community Shop for a cuppa and a slice of some of the tastiest cake in the Cotswolds! At the end of your day exploring the Cotswolds, return to Cotswold Cottage and Coln St Aldwyns, far from the madding crowds, with easy parking, peace and quiet and an immaculate and cosy home-from-home. Ground Floor Entrance Hall: Open the front door from the lane into a large, flagstone-floored Entrance Hall, with plenty of space to leave your shoes after a long day exploring the Cotswolds. Living Room: A beautiful spacious room that feels cosy and homely while offering guests plenty of space to relax and unwind. Decorated in neutral tones with a polished wood floor, exposed beams, and wrought iron furnishings, the Living Room casts a feeling of understated elegance, offering guests two large sink-in sofas to rest on after a long day of exploring the local area. The Living Room also features a homely gas fireplace, Panasonic TV and Blue-ray DVD player, Bose CD player and speakers, and double patio doors leading out to the sunny patio dining area. Dining Room: A bright, contemporary room featuring an ornamental original fireplace and wrought iron and glass dining table and chairs to seat 6 guests, with 2 extra chairs and a free-standing wine cooler. Kitchen: An excellently equipped room with partial conservatory roofing and direct access into the garden. The Kitchen features a small breakfast table (seats 4), central island, double Belfast sink, Britannia range cooker with double oven and 5 burner gas hobs, full range of Le Creuset cookware, microwave, 3-slot toaster kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, and washing machine. Off the kitchen, you will find the downstairs WC with a washbasin. First Floor Bedroom Two: A cosy double bedroom with exposed beams overlooking the quiet lane, featuring a double bed, bedside tables, dressing table with mirror, and a hanging cupboard and drawers. Bedroom Three: An airy double bedroom with views overlooking the garden, featuring a double bed, canvas hanging cupboard, chest of drawers, and a free-standing, full-length mirror. Family Bathroom: A large family bathroom, featuring both a separate bath with central taps and walk-in shower, WC and washbasin. Please note - there is a switch in the hallway to turn the electric shower on. Bedroom One: A luxurious bedroom with a huge sink-in king-size bed and matching cosy corner chair. The Master Bedroom boasts stunning original beams and a polished wood floor, as well as a chest of drawers and a full-length mirror. Head up the secret spiral staircase in the corner to the En-suite Bathroom: A delightful loft-conversion en-suite, this secret bathroom is more private spa than a washroom. Relax among the original timber rafters either in the deluxe free-standing bathtub or walk-in rain shower in this seriously cool, concealed space. Please note there is also a washbasin but no toilet. Outside Cotswold Cottage offers a beautifully maintained private garden, with a stone patio area featuring a charcoal BBQ and an outdoor dining table and chairs (+parasol) for 6 guests. The central feature of the garden is the beautifully quaint garden out-building which is a haven for climbing plants. Guests may use the deckchairs outside as well as other garden furniture located in the storage cupboard next to the Living Room.

I was one of the occupants of Cotswold Cottage from 4th to 7th August together with Mary Finan and Ruth Protheroe and am happy to give you feedback on our stay there. We are all in agreement regarding the following comments.
There were several small irritations that could be fixed with a screwdriver/wrench/drop of oil, these were. The beds creaked, the tap in the kitchen wobbled, in the main bathroom the shower door stuck and the basin had a badly fitting plug which meant the water didn’t stay in the basin and the key in the back door into the kitchen stuck and was difficult to lock/unlock.
The sofas in the lounge were extremely uncomfortable. Fortunately, we weren’t in the house that long for them to cause us all to suffer from backaches.
There were a lot of stairs which would mean someone with mobility problems would find it difficult to get from one room to another. The bathroom stairs to the bathroom in the loft is positively dangerous: the spiral staircase is incredibly steep with narrow treads and the banister rail is no more than a loosely hanging rope on one side only. Once there, there was nowhere to put anything except on the floor. There is no toilet in the en suite (which in fairness was mentioned in the literature) but I do wonder whether the en suite actually meets safety standards.
On one morning we were about to leave to go out for the day when a gas man knocked on the door wanting to change the gas tank. He insisted that he had made an appointment and was clearly annoyed that we wouldn’t let him in the house to do so. We were completely unaware of this appointment and so directed him to speak to the owners to rearrange this visit.
Overall, the cottage felt “tired”. Also, although this is not the fault of Cotswold Cottage, the area had no mobile signal making it difficult to stay in touch with loved ones.
I hope this helps.
Regards, Heather Mantell

Beautiful Characterful Cotswold Cottage.
Spacious property which was welcoming and very well equipped.
The bedrooms were large and supplied plenty of storage. The lovely Kitchen, Sitting Room and Dining Room were perfect for our party of 5. The seating outside was a bonus which we enjoyed throughout our stay. The property was spotless, check in easy, location brilliant with friendly local people. Lots of great places to visit in the area, plenty of good walks etc. If you stay for RIAT it is less than a 15 mins easy drive away.
Michelle who looks after the property was easy to communicate with and very helpful, On hand if ever needed. A brilliant place thank you!

Beautiful cottage in a lovely location
We stayed at Cotswold cottage for 3 nights. It is a really lovely cottage in a very quiet + lovely location. It was spacious, extremely clean and very well equipped. We were also extremely grateful for the really lovely cake, coffee + milk left for us on arrival. Lovely touch + most welcomed. The beds in the cottage were extremely comfortable + on those grounds alone I would definitely return. Makes all the difference to have a good nights sleep when away. Bathrooms were lovely also. Photo's are very accurate and there was no hidden agenda's.
The units in the kitchen are beginning to look a bit tired but the kitchen was well equipped all the same. We had everything we needed. Great cooker. Some attention is also needed to the outside of the property on the garden side where we noticed some guttering was looking a bit worse for wear as was the outside storage building. Such a shame as the property is just beautiful.
We visited the local pub which was lovely but not somewhere you would want to go to eat every night as the menu isn't full of choice. Ok if you like burgers. They provided a very good service though so have no complaints. The local shop is also very well equipped and very close to the property. Also some lovely walks near by.
Would definitely return. Thank you to the owner for such a lovely welcome + stay.

Perfect stay in an idyllic location
Cotswold Cottage was perfect for our weekend retreat in the Cotswolds as a party of 6. It was beautiful in itself and in a wonderful location. Fanastic facilities in the property with perfect instructions for access/use over the weekend. Wonderful period character and decoration throughout the accomodation with gret modern factilities and quick wifi. Would recommend to anyone looking to stay in the area.

Very good The step between the kitchen and the hall was difficult to see, resulting in a fall which could have been quite serious.

Beautiful cottage & perfect location.
I have stayed in many bolthole cottages and this one is definitely one of the best. Beautifully presented cottage all rooms decorated to a high standard, well stocked kitchen with decent equipment. Lovely cake & eggs for the stay. Private garden very well kept, good quality patio furniture.
Location perfect, very quiet & a great pub down the road. My only criticism no toilet in the en-suite, but I would still stay there again.

Relaxing return visit to Cotswold Cottage
Having previously visited Cotswold Cottage for a birthday celebration 10 years ago, I was delighted to find the cottage was still available to let this year. Everything about the cottage, location, character, accommodation, facilities and comfort was perfect for a short 3 night reunion with two old friends. Thanks for keeping the cottage available and so comfortable.

Great cottage in a cute village
We went for a long weekend in the Cotswolds. The house was perfect for us (4 adults and 2 and 1 year old). House had everything we needed. The separate dining room was lovely and good to have a separate space. Coln St.Alwyns was such a cute village. Great local playground and lots of walks. Perfect!
