Great location for a gorilla safari in Uganda

The property is in an excellent location for a gorilla safari as it is literally within walking distance of the gate into the Bwindi National Park. The staff are super helpful, our driver David did an excellent job transferring us to and from the lodge to Kigali in Rwanda. The rooms have an open fire that was lit for us whilst we were at dinner and a hot water bottle was in bed waiting for us.

Although the package we booked stated it was all inclusive for local beer and wine there was a limit as to how much was included. On arrival we were told that beer and wine by the glass was included in the package but spirits and bottles of wine were not. Yes we ordered a bottle of wine and expected to pay for that, but we were not expecting a total bill of US $170 because we drank more glasses of wine than the allowed. If there is a limit it should be told to the customers up front.

Fabulous

The hotel helped us to obtain the permit and also arranged the transfer services. While it took time for them to response, we could obtain the permit and also enjoyed the travel between the airport and here. They also suggested us to change our travel plan and accommodated the change. Good support of the staffs, that we liked.

When we arrived late in the night, the reception was already closed and the dinner was not provided. But the staffs did the best they could do. We also constantly listened the voices of local people late in the night and we were afraid of the strong voices.

Nice place but overpriced

Gorilla Safari Lodge is ideally situated near the Rushaga Gorilla Trekking meeting point. The drive to the Lodge is exciting, especially being on a self-drive holiday. The cottage is nice in a beautiful garden and cleanliness is OK. During diner, staff is placing briquettes in the chimney and hot water bags in bed. Might be good in cold climate, but temperatures reached 20+°C already without it...

Whereas the staff is really helpful we did not feel the same warmth as at all other places we stayed at in Uganda. Rosemary was the exception as she is a really warm person. Considering the high price we paid, we had expected more luxury and especially a higher standard restaurant. Food (breakfast and diner) was not meeting our expectation at all and the least of all places we stayed at in Uganda.
