If you are a large family or group, looking for a house to rent on Lake Winnipesaukee, we have a delightful, Victorian style house for you!
Downstairs, there are two bedrooms, a living room with a working gas fireplace and work desk, a fully-equipped, eat-in kitchen, a laundry room, and a bathroom with a tub/shower combo. Upstairs, there are five bedrooms, a TV room with frig, microwave and sleep sofa, and two bathrooms (one with a tub/shower combo, one with a shower). There's plenty of parking.
If you just want to take it easy, you can relax on the full, wrap-around porch, or on the garage roof deck. By day, it has an outstanding view of the lake and mountains. In the evening, enjoy the clear night sky while watching the colorful lights of boats out on the lake. On select nights during the summer, the fireworks are set off right across the street from the house.
The house has an unbeatable location in Weirs Beach. You can walk to everything. Walk across the street to the beautiful public beach and park. Walk down the boardwalk to the docks, where you can take a boat cruise across the lake. Farther down the boardwalk you'll find the railroad station, where you can take a scenic train ride along the lake. There are numerous restaurants and shops within walking distance. For entertainment, an outdoor movie theatre, arcades, bumper car rides and miniature golf are all within walking distance.

This was our second stay at Castle Rest, and probably won't be our last (although we may switch off with other beach towns going forward). The location can't be beat, the house is roomy and has charm and character to spare, and the porch is the perfect place to relax and admire the view. With 10 of us staying and more bedrooms than we actually needed, there was plenty of space for the kids to spread out and do their own thing.
I did waffle between 4 or 5 stars under the "cleanliness" heading, not because the housekeeping staff doesn't do an excellent job, but because some needed minor repairs to the exterior are starting to add up. All the same, we wouldn't hesitate to come again!

Every year we a group of friends and our families go away. We have been to many houses over the years. There were several reasons we liked this house. Location to the beach, shops, restaurants was great. The house was clean when we arrived and well stocked. All linens and towels were provided and clean. They even provided some toiletries! It is definitely an older house but we loved the charm. There was plenty of room with multiple bedrooms, 2 living rooms, and the wrap around porch was an additional living space with amazing views of the lake. We were sad to go and will be back again!

This year was our second year for a family retreat with all attending. If you don't mind the sound of motorcycles this space is ideal for a family gathering. We had perfect weather as well. The owner heard our suggestion last year and made the change. Thank you, Robert!

We had a wonderful time, loved the house, and have already reserved it for next year. With just the 10 of us we had tons of room and could easily have fit more people. The area had a wide variety of things to do, enough to keep both the outdoorsy family members and the video game addicts happy. The kids loved the playhouse and having their own space to hang out upstairs. The adults congregated mostly in the kitchen and on the porch.
We found the house well-equipped and didn't really need any extras. The household items I'd bring again are liquid hand soap (if you prefer liquid to bar soap), paper towels, extra dish towels, and maybe aluminum foil for grilling. I sometimes bring my own pillow and mattress topper when I travel but I totally didn't need them because the mattresses and pillows were plenty comfortable without.
A few minor corrections to the listing: We double-checked the fireworks schedule before going and found out that they're no longer every Friday. We lucked out and happened to be there for a Saturday display but they're not an every week thing. And the Juliet balcony in the pics is currently unavailable for safety reasons. Plus, although there were some puzzles and other pastimes scattered about the house, the huge pile of board games shown in the laundry room photo was nowhere to be found—it wasn't a big deal, we just would have brought some of our own if we'd known. All the same, we loved the place enough to grab it again for next year!

LOVE This Home!
This was the 2nd year that we rented this amazing home for our very large family, enjoying our time together at Weirs Beach. The location cannot be beat, since anything and everything is ALL within walking distance, from arcades, ice cream, pubs and bars to hang out in, mini golf, and restaurants are all RIGHT THERE! And the view!!!!! Unbelievable, to say the least! GREAT vacation home!

Perfect location and great parking for the motorcycles, loved the outside patio, The only thing I would change is the check in process it would be nice to have a number code lock on the door or a lockbox with the key in it having to go get a key and return it at a different location then we were staying as we were on motorcycles… but you can’t beat the view!

Fantastic Home ! Amazing Vacation!!!
I have to say, if you are looking for that perfect home that needs to be able to accommodate your very large family, that has unbelievable views, and is in an area where there is that special something for everyone to enjoy, then this is the place for you!!! The advertisement for this home was right on, with SO many bedrooms and places for my entire family to spread out, yet lots of places for togetherness. The porch was awesome, and was a blessing during the rainy times. The patio was absolutely PERFECT for our large meal gatherings, since there were 25 of us altogether. Yes, I agree that perhaps it could have been a little cleaner, but with covid and the lack of staff to work, we were very pleased with the homeowners diligence in doing all that he could as far as the cleanliness. No complaints from us at all! I would highly recommend a stay at Castle Rest, for a vacation that will give you many wonderful memories to come!

Exactly what we expected!
The booking process and communication back-and-forth with the property manager was perfect heading into the week. Upon arrival the place was exactly what we expected and absolutely perfect for our large annual family gathering. Despite a bit of rain this week, we had a fantastic time and especially enjoyed the outdoor patio area which is big enough to accommodate a group of just about any size looking to have fun while enjoying the amazing views of the lake. All in all, this was a tremendous value for us.

This is a fantastic location with a beautiful lake front view.
The house is very large with plenty of space for for our family and friends. There was something to do for everyone. The porch was my favorite spot overlooking the lake and every hour during the day the train came by. Plenty of restaurants and activities within one and activities within walking distance. We all had a fantastic time! Communication and help was great!

Excellent location
Plenty of sleeping areas for our large group. Outside area was great to relax and enjoy the evening. Great staff and a few minor problems were fixed quickly. Would book again if I had a large gathering in the area again.

Great location but wasn’t clean.
Location was perfect , set up of rooms were efficient . Definitely needs to be cleaned a lot better . Not sure if you hire a cleaning company because if you did they didn’t do there job well ! For example , not sure there was someone staying in the house the Friday before we got there but if there was and they checked at 10am . We got to the house at 1110 and there was no one there , so not sure how they can clean that big house in about an hour especially with the pandemic we are going through.

Labor Day week 2019
We rented this house to stay in the week of our daughter's wedding at the Margate. Lots of rooms! The bride and bridesmaids had room to get ready. The amount of stairs and the steepness of them was a drawback. Definitely not handicapped accessible. Lacking a few basics that we had to run to the store for the 1st night like soap in the bathrooms. All in all a good experience.

Perfect!
This house was perfect for our family of 10, with plenty of room!! The A/C worked fabulously which was important as we were there during the hottest stretch of summer with temps in the upper 90,s. The location could not have been more perfect! Directly across from the beach, and just a minute walk to the pier, we were in the center of all the activity and fun, and a birds eye view to the wonderful fireworks on Saturday night! The house was stocked with everything you could possibly need, and very clean. It was a wonderful vacation and I would definitely rent this house again!

Family vacation
Spent a week at Castle Rest and Romeo’s Balcony July 5, 2019. There were 24 of us so we rented the two homes. Age span was 3 to 89. Renting the two homes was great because of the size of our group. They are also close to each other with only one house in between. It was a great week for all of us. The huge porch at Romeo’s was a hit as well as the large patio at Castle Rest. There was plenty to do close by. Check in was easy and a special shout-out to Kathy and Travis. All staff that we had any interaction with were great. These homes are owned by the same individual who is also very easy to work with and is quick to respond back with any questions we had. Thanks again for a wonderful week at Weirs Beach.

The location is key for a beautiful view.
The house had some issues.
Insects, first off, fruit flies in the kitchen. Black flies in the kitchen, bathrooms and front porch. Spiders on the front porch. Carpenter ants on front porch and kitchen.
None of Citronella candles could be lit, we bought our own.
The whole house needs central air. A.C. units did not cool off the downstairs areas while in the living room and kitchen areas. It was unbearable at times.
Would be nice to have a ceiling fan on front porch also.
Front door and upstairs bathroom door knobs kept falling off!
A.C. filters filthy, we cleaned them ourselves.
Next door neighbors, loud music, bass bounding into the night.
Downstairs bedroom missing wand to close the blinds.
Ice maker does not dispense ice, you need to open the inside of the refrigerator to access ice.
Pleasant stay overall.

Rain or Shine and did we have rain
The sleeping arrangements were very accommodating but the living area kitchen & sitting room was tight. We had 9 adults & 8 children. We ate in shifts. Kitchen good size for preparing meals. One problem with refrigerator shutting down but took care of that the first day. Overall we had a great vacation at Castle Rest rain and all.

Castle Rest
We had a large family gathering at Castle Rest July 28th-August 4th. . The pros - This house is great for large families! It is very kid friendly for the most part. The location to the beach and other activities in Weirs beach is perfect. The younger kids loved the play house in the yard. We used the TV room in the back as the kids space for sleeping and hanging out and that worked out really well. The front porch is great with amazing views of the lake. We spent a lot of time on the front porch. The cons - As much as this house is kid friendly, we were told after we found it that the kids were not to use the kids playroom in the basement because of a "moisture problem." This was very disappointing to them as there were tons of toys and dress up clothes in that room. The room was open and advertised but we were told not to have the kids there and to lock the room. The house is in desperate need of some new furniture! Many chairs were falling apart and you had to be careful before sitting in some. The beds were comfortable over all. The porch is the highlight of the house so it is unfortunate that there are not comfy and nicer chairs out there. Overall we would stay here again, especially if we hear that the house has been updated. We had a great week in Weirs Beach!

Fun Vacation - Great Location
Having the porch and top of garage deck made this vacation fabulous. We were able to people watch, boat watch and just enjoy the beautiful lake and mountain views. The kitchen was well stocked except it only had 9 forks and we were 17. I am sure they get thrown out by accident. Linens were provided and were very nice. There was not an area inside were we could all eat together, but the porch and deck were great for that. If you need all the sleeping accommodations, just note that not all rooms afford complete privacy. There are 2 rooms upstairs that one must walk through to get down stairs. Great for kids though. I thought of putting up a tension rod with a sheet, but didn't bother. Overall, the location is the best possible and we really enjoyed our family vacation. PS. do not place anything by the garbage cans, because you never know when they get emptied and the workers assume everything in that area is garbage.

Great Location, Great House
We had a great time at this house. It is the perfect size for large or multiple families. Plenty of space to spread out. The covered porch and garage deck are the perfect places to just relax and eat outside. The proximity to the beach cannot be beat. The house was clean and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. We will definitely return if we come back to this area.

A home away from home
This house is a beautiful home that we had the joy of staying at for 7 days. The view was amazing every morning waking up sitting on the porch watching the sun rise over the trees and mountains. The house was very convenient for my stay because it is in the middle of everything. Being able to sit on the porch and watch the kids play football on the beach was great. The house has such a home feeling. The property is beautiful and very spacious. The rooms are very big and having a big kitchen so everyone can sit at and eat was very nice. This house had it all. We can not wait to go back next year.

Castle Rest Review
My family and I recently stayed here and there at both pros and cons to the house:
Pros - It's huge! My extended family and friends were all able to have their own rooms or share a room as the house sleeps 17 people comfortably. We were stuck inside for 2 days due to rainy weather but their was plenty of room to spread out in the house and not be on top of each other and we spent many happy hours playing family games/cards together. The front wraparound porch is awesome. We spent almost all our waking hours here enjoying the beautiful lake view (I recommend bringing binoculars to watch the boats on the lake). The location is central to everything - you can walk to get food, drinks, arcades, shopping and of course, it's right across from the beach.
Cons - The living room furniture is quaint but quite old and needs replacing. We had to keep pulling each other up from the chairs because the stuffing and supports were shot and you sunk so low while sitting your butt practically hit the floor (although all the bed mattresses were quite comfortable). While they keep the house surface cleaned, the floors need a good scrubbing. After an hour of walking barefoot on the floors everyone's feet were black from the dirt so be prepared to walk around the house in flip flops at the very least.
The house appeared as advertised on the site and overall I recommend staying at Castle Rest as the pros outweighed the cons and you really can't beat the view from that porch!

Great Property, Great Location, Great Time!
Robert was great to deal with and Castle Rest was the perfect spot for us and our friends to enjoy 4th of July week. If we come back to Weirs Beach, we will definitely be staying at Castle Rest again!
