About this house rental
Our sea front home is located in the south part of the very quaint, friendly and safe Garifuna fishing village of Hopkins. It has excellent views of the sea, sunrises and the Cayes from the 300 sq ft balcony.
During the week, the village tends to be fairly quiet ( except for the occasional rooster!) while on weekends the the area comes alive with music and activity.
The house has an open design, with vaulted, cathedral, tropical hardwood ceilings and large windows to maximize the Caribbean Sea breeze. Both bedrooms have split air conditioner units. With one queen bed, two twin beds ( which can be converted to a king bed) and a full futon in the living room, Casita Del Mar will comfortably sleep five-six people. Ceiling fans in each bedroom and two in the main living space give you alternatives for air flow.
A multi-filter system provides drinking water to both kitchen and bathroom allowing our guests easy access to unlimited fresh water.
There is a safe in the house where you can keep small valuables and documents so that you can relax worry-free on the beach.
Our one neighbour is away working in the States most of the time while the other is a friendly, elder woman of the village who keeps to herself but always has a moment to wave or say hello.
A short walk will get you to local grocery stores and a variety of restaurants. The beach is sandy, the water is 83 F and the Cayes, for snorkeling or diving, are only 5 miles out. Tired after swimming all morning? Relax in a hammock in the shade on the deck. Or check out the many adventure tours offered in the village from zip lining to cave exploration. Something for everyone.
Laundry facilities are available minutes away on the main street. Internet services are also available.
Our Property Manager, Cheryl, co-owns a popular local tour company and is ready to meet any of your adventure needs during your stay.
We do offer discounts for weekly (7 nights or more) stays. When you enter your dates, the site will calculate the discount for you!
Casita del Mar is registered and licensed with the Belize Tourism Board (BTB).

It isnt possible to rate this property without some background on Hopkins and the area around the property.
The house and land is amazing, you have your own private beach and the home is equipped with everything you need and then some, like an awesome sea kayak.
Inside the home there are plenty of dishes, utensils, and everything you need outside of a dishwasher and washer/dryer. I do think that is common in this area though and that has to be part of the overall review.
Hopkins was a surprise to me. After a week there i can honestly say I loved my stay and we had an amazing time but i am not sure no matter how awesome this house and property may be or that it is a good choice for someone who is uniformed.
Hopkins is a small, undeveloped, poor, and dirty town. Walking down the main road there are many unfinished dilapidated structures everywhere and to be honest a lot of trash and garbage. Hopkins is full of poverty and people live in conditions that some may refer to as abject poverty.
This is no outside development here, no chain hotels or stores and you cant get a lot of things on a daily basis, such as avocados. There is though a charm to it and beautiful beaches, a reef and jungles all around. My wife loved our vacation but wont go back, my daughters and i are on the fence.
What you see on line about Hopkins 100% does not inform you of the reality of Hopkins. A better option may be Samara, Costa Rica if you want a small, local type beach town.

The Casita was exactly as advertised, clean on the beach and beautiful property. Hopkins village was laid back and the restaurants were great. If you want a peaceful place with plenty of other activities to travel to then this is the place. The house and deck were just what we wanted.

We had a great stay in Hopkins. Casita del Mar was very comfortable. The view was incredible and the sun rises were amazing.
We did a fair bit of work remotely during our two week stay and the wifi was very good. We had no problems with connectivity and did several virtual meetings.
The kitchen was well-stocked with cups, glasses, pots, pans, cling wrap, and the like. We had plenty of towels, and the bedding was nice. The mattresses were good for me but a bit firm for my wife, but the property manager provided a couple of quilts that we put under the fitted sheet to make the bed a little softer.
It's not noted in the descriptions nor in the pictures, but Casita del Mar is now a duplex--a second living area has been constructed under the original house (which is/was pictured on stilts). I don't believe this unit is for rent but rather for the personal use of the owners. They don't live there permanently but were around for part of our visit. They nice, friendly, and quiet, but you may not have the property entirely to yourself.
Hopkins is a small village, and the location of Casita del Mar makes many things very walkable--several restaurants, grocery store, fruit stands, and laundry. To get a little farther afield, you might want to rent a car or a golf cart. We had very good food within walking distance and a couple of incredible meals down at the resorts south of the main village.
We would definitely go back!

Very well-maintained and comfortable….close to Hopkins center and numerous restaurants and small Garifuna food stands. Beach area in front of the property extremely clean and well-groomed, unlike many of the properties nearby (trash, etc.). The kitchen was well-stocked if needed. The communal chickens were fun to watch….and even the neighborhood dogs on the beach were super chill! Villagers were perhaps the friendliest that we have ever interacted with anywhere.

Everything at Casita del Mar was perfect! Kitchen is well stocked with everything (other than food) you might need. Pots and pans, cups and glasses, oil, salt, microwave.
Bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. A/C was cold at night. Bathroom was large and the shower was spacious. Plenty of bath, hand and beach towels; we brought our own, too.
Living room is nice and cozy with a futon, 2 chairs and small coffee table.
And the best part! The AMAZING porch that looks out onto the beach and you can hear the waves all day long! We hung up the 2 hammocks provided, and there are 2 lounge chairs available, too.
There were many other amenities we didn't use; yoga mats, binoculars, cards, mats, etc. A very well organized beach home.
Cherly is vert helpful and quick to answer any questions and to help with food, shuttle and whatever else we needed. We were late to check in because we took the long way from BZE and she even texted me to check on us.
Definitely a place we would stay in again.

Our overall stay a Casita Del Mar was very good. The house was very clean and just the right size for my family of 3. The property managers Cheryl and Luckie were very nice and easy to work with. The view from the deck was beautiful and very relaxing when you are in the hammock and you have a beer in your hand. There is generally a very nice breeze coming off the water.
The beach itself was pretty nice. The water was a little “seaweedy” at the edge, but once you are out a few yards, the water was fine for swimming. Plastic and trash are an issue on the beach, but I think that is an issue most places in the world sadly.
Restaurants and grocery stores were very walkable from Casita Del Mar. I think we liked Maxim’s the most for good food and easy walk from the house.
We had some very nice side trips on our stay. Cheryl set us up with Charlton from Hopkins Kulcha Tour for our in-land. We spent the better part of 3 days with Charlton and the local guides he set us up with and had a wonderful time. Cheryl and her husband Luckie, run Happy Go Luckie Tours, they do boat tours. We had a wonderful day out on the water with Capt Luckie and Beans. Beans was a great guide on our snorkeling of the reef. Capt Luckie helped my wife and son catch fish for our supper and was nice enough to fillet fish for us.
Overall, we had a very enjoyable trip to Hopkins and Casita Del Mar.
We did have a couple of hiccups with the house itself. When we arrived the gas tank, used to heat the water and supply the stove, was empty and the air conditioner in one of the bedrooms was not working. The gas tank was taken care of quickly and the air conditioner was fixed after second day. The wi-fi also went out for a few days. The water pump also went out briefly (30 mins). Cheryl was very easy to work with and worked to get these issues resolved. As a result, the house has a new wi-fi router and was scheduled to get a new water pump.

Wonderful time at a wonderful home rt on the beach. They had everything we needed and is close to everything. Had a couple mechanical hicups but they were addressed quickly and fixed, we were also compensated for any inconvience. With the warm weather the ac at night in the rooms was awesome. Definitely would come back here.

Ocean front paradise
Beautiful property in a perfect location. Hopkins is just busy enough to provide shopping and restaurant options, but still a sleepy paradise. You can easily walk from the property anywhere in town, or watch the waves on the deck overlooking the private beach. Highly recommended.

1.I was treated discourteously when a week before our occupancy while staying at a nearby property i went to your property manager's residence to pay all of my outstanding owed balance for the rental.
2. It was difficult to ensure the property manager would be onsite to assist us in gaining access to the property on the date of our arrival due to a non reply to an e-mail message. i wrote an e-mail message and had to proceed without an acknowledgement.
3.On arrival it was immediately apparent that there was no hot water available. This condition persisted from Friday the 17th until the following Wednesday. Had an inspection been done by the property manager prior to our occupancy this should have been known and remedied (and/or alternative accommodation should have been made available). To have 4 people in accommodations that had NO hot water for the bulk of their stay should not have been required to endure.
4. During the night the refrigerator stopped working and remained so until the evening of that day. We only became aware that it was acknowledged (message sent to the property manager early in the morning) when a refrigeration repair person showed up about 7pm. That very much affected our movement desires for that day. In addition due to my prior involvement with a refrigeration issue at my home domicile i was able to converse with some knowledge with the repair individual. It was confirmed that due to the refrigerator and freezer setting being at absolute maximum there was clearly an outstanding problem with the fridge from a time prior to our occupancy. This was born out by the property manager's statement that the fridge was going to be replaced (but not while we were there).
5. There are two separate lights on the upper verandah. Only one worked.
6. The metal shower drain had a protruding piece of hard metal on it and was an opportunity to severally injure one's foot.
7. If the argument re items 5 and 6 is "well they would have been attended to if they had been made known". My argument would be that if proper and thorough inspections were being done on a routine basis these would have been known to the property manager. Especially as one of them was a safety hazard.
8. No instructions were given as to how to close and lock up on the morning of our departure i was obliged to send an e-mail indicating what i would do. This even though i attempted to communicate with the property manager the day before.

We fell in love with the community of Hopkins and Casita Del Mar is the perfect home from which to enjoy it and the surrounding area. Firstly, the photos do not do justice to the beautiful home. It is lovely, well appointed and in an ideal location in Hopkins. You should see the home flooded with warm sunlight first thing in the morning! Mirko is the perfect manager. He is available to attend to your every need so don’t be shy to ask. Every detail was arranged perfectly to our satisfaction. From Tropic Air reservations to transfers and tours, all our needs were ideally met.Thank you!We will be back.

We had a wonderful stay in Hopkins and this home is in the middle of Hopkins with 2 great restaurants, a grocery store, auto rental and golf cart rental all within easy walking distance. A great place to stay if you want to immerse yourself in the Garifuna culture. Highly recommend Maxims to eat. Easy walk down the beach and it looks like a shack but the food is awesome and reasonably priced. We ate there many times. All is good but I had the lobster twice. Also ate twice there for breakfast and they have WiFi.

Beautiful! Perfect property!
We had a wonderful time staying at Casita del Mar. The property is gorgeous, the house is lovely, comfortable and immaculate. Mirko was wonderful to deal with and answered all questions, gave great recommendations and was there to help whenever he was needed. We loved Hopkins! Every restaurant was delicious and we always felt safe. We loved visiting the Ixcacoa Plantation and would suggest it as a great tour! We would love to come back someday and bring our children to experience Belize!

I can't wait to go back
If you want to experience the real Belize, this is your house! We landed in Belize City and drove three hours to the house. The trip was incredible, driving through the lush jungle, the small villages, etc... The road is in great shape and my party (4 women made up of myself and my three daughters) had no trouble finding and accessing the house. We loved it from the moment we reached the porch with it's hammocks and lounge chairs looking out onto the beach and water. Just so you know, this is a public beach, so don't be concerned if you see other people walking through the yard. The interior is as pictured. It suited our needs beautifully, even the futon in the front room which one of the girls used. The house was super clean, well-kept, beds were comfy, and the kitchen has everything you need.
The house is nestled in the village of Hopkins, and we loved the fact that while there were tourists, the village itself is free of tourist trappings. The people we met (and we met plenty) were all very kind and welcoming. Many had great stories of growing up in this little town. The restaurants (we walked to most of them) are soooo good! We favored Ella's Cool Spot. Incredible fresh fish and drinks that we could not get enough of! We went fishing twice while there, and after one excursion brought the fish to Ella's. They took great care of us and our catch; an amazing evening!
Let Mirko set up your tours. He is very accommodating and nice to work with. I'm glad I waited; his tours were better priced than booking from home. Also, we had each tour to ourselves. We went cave tubing and to the Blue Hole, and our guide had so much great information and stories. We also went fishing with Lincoln (thru Mirko). WOW!!! We, who don't fish, caught snapper, barracuda, lobster, and conch. We saw dolphins, sea turtles, swam along the reef, etc... We had so much fun and success, we went twice. Each time was such a wonderful adventure. You don't have to take guided tours either. There are plenty of national parks within driving distance with hikes, birds, and waterfalls.
We will be back, and we'll stay at Casita Del Mar. There is so much more to do. Stay in this wonderful home and immerse yourself in the adventure of the area.

Great central location
Nice little oasis in Hopkins. If you are looking for resort-style vacation with pools, restaurant, manicured grounds, private beach, room service all in a self-contained package, then Casita Del Mar is probably not for you. But if you seek adventure, have an open mind and want to see/experience how the local Belizeans live, then this is the place. Beautiful, clean and well-equipped Casita is centrally located in the country so access to the many beautiful areas of Belize is manageable via car. Sleeps 4 adults comfortably. Mayan ruins, zip-lining, hiking, excursions out to barrier reef for snorkeling, cave-tubing - all were fantastic and highly recommended. Merko took care of all our excursions when we arrived, relieving me of the leg work. The locals are exceptionally friendly (despite many having very little) and the various mom and pop restaurants around town are wonderful, and inexpensive! Highly recommend Casita Del Mar

BEAUTIFUL BEACH
BEAUTIFUL BEACH! It doesn't get much better than this beach ... the perfect mixture of sun and shade (provided by the beautiful palm trees throughout the beach). This beach is also fairly quiet as there are not a lot of people walking by.
One of my favorite things about this house is the large deck. If we weren't on the beach or out and about, we were sitting on the deck enjoying the sound of the waves and smelling the cool ocean breeze. Oh, and the hammock is dreamy ... there were definitely some naps taken there :).
We also cooked a lot of meals in the house and it was well equipped ... spices, plenty of dishes/containers, and great pots and pans!
I've rented from the property manager, Mirko, a couple times now. He's very accommodating and makes sure your stay in Hopkins is perfect!

Doesn't Get Any Better Than This!
This house is a great get away right on the beach. You can enjoy a quiet afternoon on the beach or the deck and while away the time in a hammock or go off exploring the village nearby. We had a great time swimming, watching for passing manatee or just enjoying the ocean breezes. The Property Manager, Mirko, was always available for questions about the area, where to eat or arranging trips. It was a great, carefree vacation and we can't wait to come back! Warm evenings, moonlight off the deck, waves lapping on the beach... The house itself is well equipped if you want to cook and very clean. It's obviously been recently painted and is well cared for. It's easy to get around to local restaurant or stores for basic provisions. We rented a motorcycle for a day just around the corner. Will recommend this house to my friends!

Great House with an even greater view!
First off I would give this place a 10 star rating if I could. From booking to checking in the process was smooth. Mirko showed us the way to the house and showed us around the house and told us to call him with any needs we may have. The fact he took the time to not only leave a fresh fruit basket, but to have some good drinks in the fridge was such a thoughtful and wonderful gift to us. The house in it's self, could not be better. The bed was comfortable, bathroom large and the kitchen was equipped with anything you could want to fix a meal with. But the best part of this house is not only the breach location but the porch. We spent most of our time at the house on the porch and in the hammocks. To be able to sit and not only watch the waves, but to be able to hear them from anywhere in the house is so relaxing. This house is one we are looking forward to returning to. A person can not go wrong with staying here.

Amazing beach-front condo!
from nokomis, florida November 20, 2016 at 8:56 pm:
Like everyone else, we had a fantastic stay at Casita Del Mar. We didn't want to leave. We have been home less than 24 hours and still hear the waves on the beach...the rustling of the coconut palms. I am so happy we had the opportunity to stay here. Mirko was fantastic and did an excellent job on our tour needs. We will definitely stay here again!

Women's getaway to Belize.
A lovely, well-located home right on the beach and walking distance to some restaurants and a grocery store gave us a superb base to explore Belize, take in some adventures such as scuba diving, snorkelling, cave tubing, boat trip, and to just kick back, walk the sand and listen to the surf. The efficient and friendly property manager looked after setting up our tours.
The home is modern, neat and tidy. Seemed to be outfitted with everything we needed. I appreciated the nice linens.
The porch is the best...morning coffee, hammocks for naps and reading, table and chairs for eating together, and cocktails before dinner. We lived on the porch. There is often a breeze and only when it really rained, did we move inside.
We did rent a golf cart so we could venture out to some restaurants a little further from the home. This worked out really well.

Casita Del Mar
Neat, clean, comfortable, well-equipped, attractive, beach accommodation with a lovely view of the Caribbean. Within easy walking distance of a grocery store and a few restaurants. The rental of bikes or a golf cart makes it easy to explore the village and visit a variety of restaurants. Arrangements for sightseeing and adventure tours can be made through a very efficient property manager - reef snorkelling, cave tubing, zip lining, Mayan ruins, fishing, etc. Local residents are very friendly and helpful. The sound of the surf at night compensates for a rooster crowing and some canine yowling.
Recommended for a relaxing/adventure holiday in the sun.

Casita Del Mar
Just back from a wonderful women's vacation on the beach in Hopkins, Belize. The house was modern, clean and comfortable with all at home conveniences. Even though it was the end of rainy season, the rain was episodic and did not interfere with any acticities and we tried a lot - zip lining, cave tubing, snorkeling, scuba diving, visiting Mayan ruins. Was easy to walk to grocery shopping and lots of restaurants. It was also fun to rent a golf cart for slightly longer jaunts. Able to cook in when we wanted but we also tried lots of restaurants, from inexpensive local food to slightly more exotic (try Love on the Rocks). Arrangements for transportation and activities was taken care of by the very efficient property manager and all went smoothly. The air conditioner helps to blurr the sounds of neighbourhood dogs and roosters. Overall it is a wonderfully pleasant, casual, relaxing area to stay. Just can't beat a balconey, sea breezes and a surf sound. I would be very happy to return here.

Casita Del Mar - Really Great Stay
My wife and I stayed at Casita Del Mar for two weeks in August to September. This was a really great trip, and to be honest, was a very small "trial run" for us as we're thinking of moving to Belize for retirement. The house was awesome. Very comfortable. Well appointed. The cookware was Wolfgang Puck - not the usual "leftovers" that you see in a lot of rentals which was good because we cooked almost every day. Everything worked - no issues. A/Cs worked well - kept things very cool at night (we didn't use them during the day). The place was fairly bug-free, which is unusual for Caribbean properties. Just keep the place clean. The only things that I'd mention you might want to know is that the place is in town so there were a few barking dogs at night and the woman next door has chickens so hope you don't mind the sound of roosters occasionally crowing. Not overly annoying, but worth mentioning. Also, people burn their trash. They usually are good in that they wait for an offshore breeze which helps, but you can still smell it. Not really that bad but we're from Southern California, so weird for us! These aren't the fault of the owners or the property manager, but some things to keep in mind. Mirko, the property manager, was great! Anything we needed was handled quickly and professionally. A bike chain broke, and we forgot to mention it right away, but the guy who rakes up the beach must have reported it to Mirko and it was fixed right away. He can also arrange tours and transportation for you. We took the cave tubing tour which was great - highly recommend it. This is a great place to stay - lots to do, or nothing to do, as you want. Loved being right on the beach. Nice places to eat nearby - try Ella's Cool Spot. Great lobster! Grocery store was a couple minute walk, and the fruit stand was a short bike ride away. Would definitely stay here again.

Belize beach house
We absolutely loved everything about the house. It had everything we needed, including a coffee maker and air conditioning in the bedrooms. The location was perfect, right on the beach and close to shops and restaurants. The hammocks on the deck were great for afternoon naps! We used the house bikes to get around which was a big plus. Mirko was exceptional. He arranged all our local transportation and excursions and was available for any questions. The locals were so friendly. Definitely can't wait to go back.
