Sugar Mountain is such a beautiful place to plan a winter ski trip or a downhill mountain biking summer spree (ski lift takes your bike to the summit). The best way to enjoy your carefree days is when the slopes are right outside your backdoor! This cozy roundhouse has been completed renovated (2021) with new upstairs bathrooms, downstairs family bedroom, central A/C, and enlarged parking is the perfect ski-in ski-out location; ski right from the door of the lower family room! Being right on the slopes, you might just fall off the couch with a bellyaching laugh as you watch all the nighttime skiers ‘fly by outside’ through this home’s massive windows. A small full kitchen has everything you need to enjoy an evening with the family and the wraparound deck will give you amazing views of the mountain and early morning wildlife. In summer, enjoy the bike park and scenic chairlift on Memorial Day weekend, July 4th weekend through Labor Day weekend, Octoberfest, and Wooly Worm Festival in Banner Elk.
What's nearby:
There's so much to do here at Sugar Mountain! The ski resort is right up the street where you can enjoy the skating rink and drink some hot chocolate in the ski lodge, and there's even a golf course if you're visiting in the warmer months. A ten-minute car ride will bring you to the Foggy Mountain Gem Mine where you can pan for gems with instructors for an educational family experience, or catch some incredible views of the mountains by crossing the Mile High Swinging Bridge and ziplining at Hawksnest. Mystery Hill (18 miles) is perfect for kids and it's a must! Only 10 miles away is Grandfather Mountain and Grandfather Trout Farm (five miles) is the perfect place to try fishing, especially if you never tried it before.

Cool house. Close to everything.

Nice location. Central to Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, etc. Nice place.

We’ve stayed in several slopesider properties and enjoy the convenience and charm of the community. This place was great. It is cute as can be and very nicely set up for plenty of guests!
The built in dining table is great for meals and games and the separate area downstairs was perfect for the kids to have their own space. We all appreciated having cable and internet, too.
The ski in ski out is PERFECT. Lots of accommodations for gear, and set up to make it so easy to organize, dry or heat all those boots and gloves.
The owners have done a great job with space and storage given the unique layout of a cute mushroom house.
Super happy with the place and rental process!

Great little place. Easy access to slopes and quite close to Banner Elk. Trips to grocery store took all of 10 minutes. Some nice remodeling done in bathrooms, however, oven and dishwasher are in need of replacement for sure but are still functional. Don't wait to watch the water boil! Also, owners, pony up the 25 bucks a month to get a few channels on the TV, eh? My advice is to make sure you bring your fire stick, appletv etc with you and plug it in, otherwise you will be watching the one news channel. These are small things and would not deter us from renting this same spot again!

We absolutely loved this house for our late-season family snowboarding trip! It was so great to be right on the slopes so we could ski out. The second living room down stairs was a great feature, so the adults and kids could have their own space. Just a really great space for our family getaway. We will definitely look for it next time we come to Sugar Mountain!

Loved it!! Everything was perfect!!!!

We really enjoyed the location and easy access to the slopes! Super cute and nicely upgraded bathrooms upstairs. Living room furniture is a little worn and if weather is bad, the TV is really small for any movie watching. An upgraded Smart TV with Netflix would be a plus. Kitchen eating area was awesome for meals and even having to do a little remote work. Only other item that stood out was the loud A/C handler in the Primary bedroom with King bed. The heat ran all night, and it is directly over your head. Cute cabin!

Ill keep the review summarized to key points:
1. The house has a GREAT location. Ski in and ski out, very convenient!
2. The Check-in was terrible!! We arrived at 4pm (the check in time) and the sheets were all over the FLOOR. Not one bed was made.
the bathroom towels were on the FLOOR too and were all dirty.
There were FOOD crumbs all over the floor and the couches.
Coffee from past guests, and dirty dishes as well.
I called and they sent a cleaning service 2 hours later.
The cleaning service ONLY changed linens and towels, the floor was still left dirty...
this was very disappointing, since we spent christmas in the cabin.
3. a good 8-10 people fit, there is enough space for everyone.
4. Again.. VERY good location for a winter vacation but consider calling a couple of times before arriving to make sure they cleaned or at least picked up after the other guests.

Location was amazing and architecture of the home is pretty cool. We did find trash left over from previous occupants when we pulled out the sleeper couch and used the recliner. Overall great place.

I really like the kitchen seating, it reminds me of a restaurant type and what I also really loved was how natural and comfy it felt.

You literally cannot get a better location. House does need to be upgraded though. For very little money it would make a huge difference. Carpet is old and ratty. Kitchen needs upgrading . The original cleaning was a joke! Bed linens were not changed ! Hairs and crumbs literally on the linens on the upstairs and the bottom bedrooms were not even made .iCoykd go on and on overall the house was filthy!!!
Very unhappy with the response from Vacasa on Sugar Mountain !!! I stay at Sugar every year and this is the 2nd time this has happened with a Vacasa rental . The Vacasa Mgr, said they were short handed ,So you put me in a filthy house that I paid to have cleaned ? Vacasa ultimately did send 2 ladies over and got things cleaned but it was after 8 pm when they left.

This slopesider is recently renovated with the bells and whistles + decoration of a high end home. Perfectly positioned on the slopes for ski in ski out, this home enabled us to enjoy our vacation despite the record cold temps. The owner also provided the most festive Christmas decorations on the mountain for our Christmas stay! A+++

This was our second time staying in this home. Perfectly situated with everything you need! The home was clean and well furnished.

Location is awesome. It is right next to the slope and you can watch the people going up and down on bikes, skiis and lifts.
Vacasa customer service is great. They were constantly in touch with me.
Property is little bit outdated. Carpets are worn out. Furniture is dirty. There was wrap around deck but we couldn't use it because it had mold and mildew. Outdoor furniture was not provided so we couldn't sit outside.
Prior to check in, they only cleaned bathrooms. Other rooms were not cleaned or vacuumed.

Loved the view from the living room!
Easy to find home with ample parking. Located in a convenient spot to either ski out and or to drive down to the parking lot to rent gear and grab slope tickets. Will be booking again next year and the next!

Updated slopesider
Many of these units are dated but it’s a great spot and has updated bathrooms. Beds are kinda hard and there weren’t any lofts but we had a great time.

Updated and convenient!
Several unexpected updates not shown in photos. They maximize every square inch. Ski in/out is awesome. Would definitely stay again!

The house was spacious and stocked. The only negative was getting up to the house from the slope.

Great place to stay!
This is great for our group. The location and view was amazing. I am taking one star because the stove/over needs to be updated and way too small. It is hard to use and some of the burners sometimes won't turn on.

Great spring break!
We had the best time here!!! The place was better than described...the views are incredible...and the access to the slopes was perfect!! We had fun watching others ski down and yes saw a bear walk across the slopes our last night there!! We will definitely be back here!

Very nice to ski in and out. Watch the slopes from the porch or living room.

Perfect location
First off, the location is absolutely perfect for skiing or snowboarding. It’s the best house on the mountain for that. You can literally ski onto the back porch. We set up a speaker and a cooler outside for a group of 7 guys and it was awesome. You can also watch everyone wipe out from the livingroom. We never even turned on the TV because that was so entertaining. You pop on the skis, ski off the deck and you’re at the lodge in 20 seconds. Some people even rented stuff and walked back up to the house (it’s up a hill but not bad if you’re in decent shape). The description says it holds 2 cars but we fit 2 suvs and a truck without a problem. I have a 2-wheel drive car and was able to get in and out with minor difficulty (even after receiving 5 inches of snow the night before leaving). People trying to go further up the hill we’re getting stuck. There’s no better place to stay for winter sports.
We did have a water issue when we were there. The main drain stack upstairs was clogged which led to water backing up when using the dishwasher and leaking from the ceiling onto one of the beds downstairs. Not ideal but we think we fixed it and the maintenance people were very responsive but we had it under control by the time they got there. No stars deducted because the Vacasa folks were so dang nice.
There’s also a bed they didn’t mention that pulls out from under the bottom bunk. This was clutch after the water issues mentioned above.
The appliances are dated but who cares? They worked for cooking easy meals and slope side saved money from not having to eat in the lodge. It would be great for coed trips because the people having a rough time can go back without ruining it for everyone else. Beds were comfortable and the bathroom in the master is actually very nice. We tried to book it again for the same weekend next year but it was already booked out.

Wonderful house!
Great beds! Great views! Good decks!
Need a full size skillet;)
Some trash outside: garbage bag, beer cans and bottles. Master shower had low water pressure. Downstairs bath needs updates.

Close to slopes
Right beside the slopes. House is a little old but location is amazing. Great for families with kids that need to come in and rest, snack, potty, etc in the middle of the ski day. Decent windows to watch skiers too.
