THE EXPERIENCE
Remember when you were a kid and your most pressing engagement was playing all day until dinner time? A vacation on Woods Pond is going to take you back to those days. Having escaped the over-development, crowds, and noise that have changed the character of larger ponds and lakes in the area, Woods Pond is considered the hidden gem of the Lakes Region. The pond is quiet, peaceful, and serene. No jet skis buzzing the shores, no loud music or parties—just the calming sounds of nature like waves lapping on the shoreline, frog calls softly echoing across the water in the evening, and loons performing their hauntingly beautiful songs.
Start your day with a cup of coffee and a quiet paddle on the flat calm, glass-like waters of early morning. Play all day on the pond or check out the attractions in historic Bridgton, then come back to grill out on the deck, watch the sunset over the water through a frame of 100-year-old pine trees, and roast marshmallows over a bonfire while the fireflies and the stars sparkle all around. Collapse into a comfortable bed and get ready to do it all over again.
GUESTS BEST SUITED FOR THIS PROPERTY
Responsible, mature guests looking to get away and relax in peace and quiet are welcome. This includes small families, couples, and friends in groups of 6 or fewer. The property is suitable for guests of all ages including babies and children, though I do require that the person booking the listing be at least 35 years old. As much as I love wildlife, no pets are allowed.
My home is nestled in a serene neighborhood with 5 great neighbors I’ve known for over 35 years. Most of my neighbors are retired and enjoy the quiet pleasures of lake life, so it is important that guests be respectful and limit their noise level during the day and evening. There are also some non-human “neighbors” who also appreciate peace and quiet, such as the loon who nests 1,000 feet away and the eagle who fishes around the pond daily and sometimes pulls a catch out of the water right in front of the property.
If you’re looking for a place to blast your radio, yell like Tarzan, and generally run wild, I can recommend some great rental homes on larger lakes more suited to your vacation needs.
ABOUT WOODS POND
Woods Pond is 2 miles long by ¾ of a mile wide and 29 feet deep in the center, giving you ample space for your favorite lake activities including swimming, boating, water skiing, sailing, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. My home has a private sandy beach for swimming and lake lounging. The private beach is 16 feet wide and you can walk out onto the sand directly from the lawn. The sandy beach is very special and unique—all the newer properties on the pond have rocky shores.
Woods Pond is home to Maine’s most magnificent wildlife: loons, bald eagles, the great blue heron ospreys, black bears, deer, and the most photographed animal—the Maine moose. For the angler, the pond is stocked with large and small mouth bass, brown trout, rainbow trout, salmon, white perch, pickerel, and hornpout (New England catfish).
HISTORY OF THE PROPERTY
Woods Pond is named after Bridgton’s first surveyor, Solomon Wood, who came to the area in the fall of 1776. In 1935 and 1936, my grandfather visited and made his own careful study of all the open land around the pond, searching for just the right spot to build his dream camp. He settled on a location that received the most sunlight throughout the day and had the perfect sunset view directly across the pond every night.
Built in two phases, the original camp on the property was one of the first structures on Woods Pond. My grandfather started out by building the summer home’s living quarters in 1936. Later, a large porch was added. The porch was actually taken from a storefront in town, loaded into an ox-drawn sleigh, and brought across the frozen pond to the property in wintertime. When spring arrived, my grandfather attached the porch to the main structure. And he built the first dock out of tree trunks in 1938.
In 1995, my family built the existing log home on the site of the original camp. I’ve spent the past 4 years renovating the home and property to create a getaway retreat.
With the recent renovations, the interior was designed to bring the outdoors inside, with natural stone interior walls, stone and tile flooring, granite countertops, and hardwood floors. It has been fully equipped with all the amenities of a comfortable home, including a stainless-steel refrigerator, gas stove, microwave, Keurig coffeemaker and traditional coffeemaker, washer and dryer, bed linens, bath towels, cooking utensils, outdoor gas grill, two indoor remote control gas fireplaces, flat screen TVs in every room, Wi-Fi, and a Bose system with speakers in nearly every room. Thanks to a dug well, crystal clear drinking water flows from every faucet.
The exterior features a lakeside deck, 16' foot wide sandy beach, a Jamaican-style hammock, a 30' by 6' foot wood dock, a horseshoe pit, abundant flowers, wild Maine blueberry bushes, an extra-large groomed lawn, and a recessed, fire-brick-lined bonfire pit just 8 feet from the water’s edge.
WHAT'S IN TOWN
Just 4 miles away, you’ll find the town of Bridgton, Maine. Bridgton was named one of the best vacation towns by DownEast magazine and is also a favorite spot of author Stephen King and his wife.
Bridgton features 2 grocery stores (Hannaford’s and Food City), restaurants (Vivo Italian Kitchen & Bar, The Black Horse Tavern, Campfire Grill, Venezia, Mack’s Place, Ruby Food, House of Pizza, and more), places to get fresh seafood and Lobster (Hannaford’s and Highland Seafood), a golf course and tennis courts (Bridgton Highlands Country Club), public beaches, nature trails for walking and exploring (Pondicherry Park), a bait and tackle shop (Uncle Lunkers), and 2 movie theaters including a restored drive-in (Bridgton Twin Drive-in) and a rebuilt "historic landmark" indoor movie theater (Magic Lantern Movie Theater & Pub).
About 10 miles away in the town of Naples, you’ll find additional shopping and dining options including live music at Rick’s Café. For winter fun, the Shawnee Peak Ski Resort is 9 miles away. Maine’s biggest city, Portland, is just an hour away and is great for day trips or a special dining experience.

Todd’s home is in a lovely location and well outfitted with activities to keep everyone busy and happy. We swam, swung, had a water gun fight, played volleyball, and watched a movie outside with a fire. It was a GREAT spot!

Well, we never been to Maine so we wanted to go out and explore all that Maine has to offer. But we never wanted to leave the cabin! We took a family trip to unplug from work and school and we did just that. From the time of booking Todd established contact with us and made sure we had all the info we needed and made us feel like his home was our home. He could not have been more accommodating. The views were amazing and relaxing. We brought a speaker to listen to music on the dock but never used it. It was so quiet and the only thing we heard was wildlife. The Maine Loon was our favorite. We watched movies outside around a fire pit. The beds were so comfortable and the cabin was spotless. This was a trip to remember and we will be back. Thank you Todd for such an amazing time.

We haves stayed at a lot of lake homes throughout New England over the years and this was by far our favorite. First, the host was extremely friendly and responsive and so nice to deal with. The home was absolutely beautiful and perfectly appointed with everything you need ( just bring your beach towels). The property was gorgeous - directly on a clean large pond with a large fire pit hammock and even a swing above the pond. The outdoor movie theatre topped it all off and literally took 1 minute to set up. We used the canoe every day and caught and released dozens of fish mostly small and large mouth bass. The property is close to many delicious restaurants in Bridgton and neighboring Naples. All in all we loved this home and will definitely be back.

This log home is wonderful... We stayed in the winter to ski Pleasant Mountain. We arrived late and our host met us warmly and gave us a tour of the home. The home is immaculate. Incredibly clean and well equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and look forward to a return visit next season! Thank you!!

What a great place to relax! House and property was spotless. Everything was exactly as advertised. The outdoor movie set up is unbelievable. Host was very helpful and the whole process to check in/out was easy. Location is private but still very close to many of the attractions and restaurants in the area. Highly recommended!!

Property manager seemed very ocd about his home, made it very uncomfortable to stay knowing he would find fault with something. During our check in he kept mentioning all this issues he had with renters prior to us and what they did wrong. Made us feel like maybe he shouldn’t be renting his house. Don’t rent from him if you want to be walking on egg shells. He will find fault with something!

If you are looking for a place for peace and solitude during the winter this is the place for you. Todd’s cabin is a uniquely beautiful home directly on the lakefront. It’s within 15 minutes of a great ski mountain and restaurants. For the nights we wanted to stay in, we enjoyed family time around the fire pit and watched a movie at his outdoor theater. Great time was had by all and we hope we have the chance to see the beautiful scenery during the summer months!

I was looking for a serene and peaceful cabin on the water to have a quiet retreat to myself. That is exactly what Todd’s house provided. The sunsets and stars were magical. The place was immaculate, cozy and welcoming. Todd made sure to greet me when I arrived and gave me a thorough tour so I could feel right at home.

I rented this property for a long weekend. It was gorgeous and immaculate inside and out. Perfect spot for a family extended weekend in the fall. The foliage was beautiful, the set up of the theater and fire pit were perfect. Todd was a great host. I'll be back to enjoy a long weekend in the winter!

We had a lovely time at Todd’s cabin for our girls weekend away. Todd was extremely thorough and made sure we had everything we needed for the weekend. The movie screen was phenomenal and anything we could have possibly needed for the weekend was there. 10/10!

Quaint, Private, Clean, Beautiful Natural Scenery. The Owner Todd Met me to give me the keys. He is a sincere and genuine guy that cares a lot about his home and his neighbors. This is Not a home to rent if you are looking for a place to party. I wouldn’t recommend for Families either. It’s Too Quiet of an environment to be ruined by bored kids complaining and screaming. Perfect for a Couples Getaway retreat. 10 minutes to Downtown Naples. I would stay there again. Thank You to Todd the owner. I felt privileged to stay in your house. Michael

We had such a lovely time. The place was exactly what we wanted. It was cozy and beautiful and had everything we needed for a true getaway. Other than the grocery store we never left. My 11 year old commented that she took her shoes off the day we got there and only put them back on when we left. That’s the sign of a good vacation. Thanks to Todd for making it so easy.

This property is charming and impeccably maintained. It was absolutely immaculate. We thoroughly enjoyed our quiet getaway here. After a wonderful nearby hike, we returned and soaked up the sun on the outside porch, then enjoyed the sunset at the fire pit. Todd was available for any questions.

Above and beyond. Thank you for helping make my family's stay a wonderful one. Skating on the pond was spectacular :)

We absolutely loved our stay here! Todd was so nice and helpful and showed us how everything worked and were everything was. The outdoor movie theater was the best and we can’t wait to stay again!
2.5
Lovely stay, gorgeous setting. Todd was a wonderful host, everything impeccable. Appreciated good communication and thorough walkthrough. And the foliage… wow! Rick enjoyed the canoe. We both enjoyed cooking a meal and relaxing. Thank you, Todd for the perfect end to our New England roadtrip.
2.5
My wife and I had one of the most memorable weekends that we have had as a couple. Todd the host could not of been more available or helpful. I think we now have a new definition of what it means to be immaculately clean.. The cabin itself lacked nothing. All of the amenities one could ask for coupled with the simplicity of the cabin made it perfect. There is nothing that we would have wanted or changed. Exceptional. We will be spending many more trips there
Bravo Todd

The cabin was truly a delight on a quiet lake at the end of September.. We were able to relax with everything we needed for meals and recreation (badminton and horse shoes) available at the cabin. The beds were extremely comfortable; having two full bathrooms for two couples was perfect! S'mores at the fire pit during the full moon was perfect! Able to stream all our favorite shows and to stay connected with the internet. Happy hour on the deck in the evenings watching the sunset...perfect! Todd was informative and responsive as promised. His cabin was immaculate and well stocked.

This property is everything one would want in a lake house if you’re looking for a quiet, wholesome retreat from the stress of life. It’s like stepping into another world. We saw barely anyone the whole time we were there (three weeks). Todd was an amazing host that cares very much about the property and is passionate about keeping it meticulous. When I booked it, my youngest was still very much a baby and by the time we stayed he was in the thick of the terrible twos, so I was a little stressed about him wrecking the place (I’m a little stressed about him wrecking any place we go 🤣) but I think we managed ok. My kids had a magical time that I’d be willing to bet will be some of their first cherished memories. My three year old’s face the first time her daddy caught a fish was priceless, I’m so happy we got a picture. Cuteness overload. My only complaint, which has nothing to do with the property itself and entirely to do with Mother Nature - hornets, wasps, leeches, mosquitos, etc. That said, if you’re renting a lake house, you’re probably in it for the nature; bugs are par for the course. I highly recommend.
2.5
Our family of 5 had a lovely stay at this property. The area is very quiet and the home is beautifully maintained and extremely clean. It had all of the amenities we could need for a completely relaxing stay. The property owner was very thorough and responsive and made sure all our needs were met. The location is ideal, quiet and private but close to Bridgton and other nearby activities.

This place was amazing, very clean, love the location. Very quiet, peaceful. Everything you can want, need and desire on a house. Host is very friendly and very helpful. One of the best places we've stayed. Wish we cpuldve stay longer. Definitely we'll be back

We spent one night here and enjoyed the peaceful setting. It was very quiet and we enjoyed drinking coffee while watching birds outside the living room windows. The amenities were great. Had everything we needed. The owner was great with communication! Would stay again and recommend for those in need of a quiet getaway.
2.5
We were looking for a place to unplug, relax, and just enjoy our downtime. The cabin was perfect! We had the downtime, but also enjoyed some music, a couple of movies, and just enjoying spending time together, before our daughter graduates from high school. The atmosphere at the pond is so peaceful, and the cabin offers a very comforting place to call "home". Todd was very responsive and great to work with. We are already thinking about the next time we may need a retreat!

Our stay in the cabin represented the highlight of our 11 day winter getaway throughout Vermont and Maine. Perfectly situated a mere hour from Portland, this cabin had all we were looking for. A picturesque lake, all the amenities we could hope for, an outdoor theatre (!), badminton court, fire pit, I could go on and on! What a fun experience for my group! And Todd, the homeowner, could not have been more helpful and available. He answered my questions immediately and offered help above and beyond what could be expected. My wife is already bugging me about when we’re going back!
2.5
I stayed at Todd's cabin with my family (4 adults) over the Christmas holiday. It was a wonderful stay! The cabin is beautiful and had lots of nice touches that made the entire stay cozy and warming. The kitchen is fully stocked, and he has many music and TV options. I can definitely see how fun this place would be in the summer when you can make use of all the great outdoor amenities. Overall would definitely recommend!

Nice little spot on the pond

My wife and I just visited for our 20 year anniversary and of all the places we’ve ever stayed this was by far the nicest. Not only was the cabin absolutely beautiful but Todd’s hospitality and kindness was over above expectation. Thank you for making a much needed time away so special.
2.5
Todd's home offers the pinnacle of peacefulness. He has taken exceptional pride in perfecting his home and it translates to a surreal escape from the stressors of reality. My family and I savored the quality time this real-life reverie effortlessly affords and hope to return someday.
2.5
Very clean home, great location, lots of extras - including the movie screen by the firepit, badminton net, horseshoes, and lots of DVDs. (Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to take the canoe out.) And the views (especially with the foliage) were amazing - and we even got to watch a loon diving for food. The owner is also very responsive for any questions. Would definitely rent again.
2.5
This house was absolutely wonderful - clean, peaceful, and as advertised. My family had a very relaxing week. The big yard, fire pit, and pond are just perfect. Owner was extremely easy to coordinate with. Only downside for us during this time - he required a walk through and wasn't flexible about doing a contactless check-in. Otherwise, everything was perfect.
2.5
This property and home are spectacular. We could not have chosen a more beautiful location. The home is equipped with all the amenities you need for a relaxing getaway. The lake in the early morning was breathtaking. We would highly recommend this property.
