It displays beautiful decorative tiles above its windows, and doors that were made by Lord Tennyson himself when he chose the property to house his beloved nanny. Priory Cottage has other famous connections, since Tennyson’s good friend G.F. Watts lived next door, and Montgomery’s map-maker is also known to have lived in the cottage.

For surfers and kite surfing enthusiasts, Compton Bay is nearby on the south coast and is just a short drive away.
One of the Isle of Wight’s best kept secrets, Compton, offers a 2-mile stretch of contrasting dark and golden sands, with rolling seas, and a stunning backdrop of multi-coloured sandstone cliffs. It’s also a great place to go fossil hunting, and you can book tours on the beach to see dinosaur footprints that are exposed at low tide. The island has become a hot spot for cycling enthusiasts, with a choice of routes suitable for all. If you are bringing your own bikes, there is secure storage facility on site.

Delightful place to stay with everything you could wish for. Peaceful and comfortable. Stylishly decorated with beautiful bed linen that it decadent to sleep in. The hosts are so welcoming and amenable, and the fact that we could bring our fur baby made our holiday complete. Enchanting garden and wonderful walks. Super close to the needles and you can get to all other places within 20 max. We will definitely be going back! ❤️

What a lovely cottage. Beautiful peaceful setting. Our dog loved exploring the secure garden. We really enjoyed the deep Japanese bath/jacuzzi ... beware putting in too much bubble bath!... Beds were so comfy. Kitchen well equipped and lounge spacious.

Priory Barn has been beautifully and imaginatively converted into a very special holiday home.
Priory Barn has been beautifully and imaginatively converted into a very special holiday home. Lots of interesting and unusual design features lift it above the norm. Loraine and Brian are very welcoming hosts and the Barn is dog friendly too. There is plenty to do and see in the area. We would recommend the Piano Cafe for breakfast and The Hut for fish and a fabulous setting. We had a lovely restful break there and will certainly be returning for a longer stay next time.
