We were in need of a nice, relaxing vacation and that’s exactly what we got. There were four of us (me, my husband, my 16-year-old, and my 11-year-old) and we each had our own space. We loved going down to the dock, and there is also a town beach just down the road. The home is filled with fun antiques and reminds you of a clean, well-kept, and charming grandmother’s house. We wanted a low-key vacation, and so we enjoyed short jaunts (less than 15 mins away) to Kent to enjoy its downtown and waterfall and bookstore and to Washington Depot (the inspiration for Gilmore Girls, which also had its own lovely bookstore). Overall, we highly recommend this home to other families needing quiet and downtime.

I wanted to stay here forever!
It was difficult to leave this amazing place! The cottage had so much personality, and there was such an incredible view of the beautiful lake from the house, the porch and the patio. The area was enchanting, and we spent every day hiking and taking in new, beautiful sights. We wished there had been more time to explore! Danielle and Eduardo were great!!

God place for a short getaway. Not a place for anyone who has trouble walking steep steps

Awful
Filthy. Beds/chairs/stairs/kitchen table falling apart. Hair and stains on mattresses and pillows. The bed I slept on in back room if you turned on it even slightly it wobbled like it was going to collapse. Rodents in wall. Caretaker told me it was squirrels on the roof but the sounds were from the walls. When I told him it wasn't the ceiling and was from the walls he stopped replying. Rat traps outside mouse traps and ultrasonic pest repellers in every room indicate they know there is an issue. My wife's parents left after the first night. Only it was my wife's birthday we would have gone home as well. I expected it to be rough around the edges as its a cabin but the place is falling apart. The amount I paid I feel absolutely robbed blind. Never again.

Magical Cottage w/ Plenty to Enjoy
This cottage is charming but has all the amenities and space to really enjoy some time "away". We traveled with our family and there were plenty of beds / bedrooms / bathrooms, the kitchen had everything to make and enjoy full-size meals, and the living spaces were cozy / comfortable. The location is very unique and the views are amazing. Communication w/ the owner was quick and helpful.
PS. No need to bring your favorite book, there are plenty of fascinating reads available throughout the cottage!

Charming Lake Cabin
We had a wonderful week. The house is charming, clean and COVID safe. The kitchen is well outfitted, with updated appliances. The kitchen seating is a little tight for more than 4 people. In the nicer weather there is lovely outdoor seating by the fire pit. The area has beautiful hiking, and lovely restaurants with outdoor heated socially distanced dining. The lake is lovely and the dock is perfect for sitting and enjoying the stars at night. It’s a perfect throwback cabin with a beautiful screened in porch with a local caretaker who is responsive and helpful.

Other than a noise complaint from the neighbor at 11:30pm our first night, our stay was exactly what the doctor ordered. The home is on the older side so expect a “rustic” feel. Eduardo was very helpful and the homeowner seems very understanding when the neighbor submits a complaint. All in all, it was a quiet comfortable stay.

Other than the ceiling leaking and the nasty-gram from the neighbor ...
I’d first like to say that the house was lovely. And the caretaker and Waldo did everything possible to salvage what otherwise would have been a very difficult situation.
When we arrived, we found three workmen in the master bedroom having sawed a hole in the ceiling above the bed. Apparently there had been a leak and, unable to get a plumber in time, Eduardo had a undertaken opening the ceiling to try to find the problem and fixing it with plumbers putty. I was a bit concerned because we had wanted to drop off our things and our dog and go for a hike. But there were buckets of plaster and water and dusty muddy footprints all over the floor and it was clear that they had not really finished their work.
Eduardo told us to return in a half an hour so we went to town and sort of loitered and came back in a half an hour at which point he said he needed another 45 minutes.
Unfortunately most of our first day was spent loitering around not being able to enjoy the day and wondering if they were going to get it fixed. There was no other bed in the house that wasn’t a twin so we were really hoping they could get the master bedroom in order but the leak was right over the bed.
If we had known it was going to take so long we would’ve gone off and fully enjoyed our day but we kept checking back thinking that it was about to be done and that we could finally drop off our dog and go do our thing . So our whole first day was wasted as we sort of loitered around.
When the gang finally vacated the house they tried to clean up after themselves, I cringed as I saw them squirting Windex on the wood floors and mopping up. If I was a homeowner I would’ve been very upset.
The workers left a straight edge razor blade on the floor which fortunately we saw before anyone stepped on it and they patched the ceiling.
But a few hours later it started to leak again. So far this romantic weekend wasn’t going so well.
The guys came back to the house and we vacated once again so that they could open the ceiling and re-putty.
But sleeping under that patched area was a bit stressful not knowing when water was going to start falling on the bed again.
Our second day was better. The putty held and there was no further leaking. But we woke up to a very nasty note on our car from the neighbors threatening to tow our car! There’s is a shared carpad and every time we came home they had moved the garbage pail’s into the middle of it!

Loved our stay here! The location is a bit remote (spotty cell service) but truthfully that was just what we needed.Great hiking trails nearby and lots to do around the lake. The house is definitely quirky and would not be accessible for anyone with limited mobility. Kitchen has plenty of pots and pans for cooking but lacks any cooking non-perishables, like salt and oil, so keep that in mind if you’d like to do any cooking. We’ll definitely be back!

We had a lovely stay. Beautiful views of the lake, well stocked kitchen, great porch and outdoor patio. Eduardo was very helpful and prompt with any questions we had. Only downfall was a couple of mattresses were a little worn and could be replaced.

Wonderful family weekend
The house was beautiful, clean and well appointed. The lake was lovely. The surrounding area had great restaurants and stores. We will be back again. Our only complaint was that the canoe was falling apart.

All was great. Only issue was walking out of stairway right onto the road to get to lake. Kind of dangerous.

Great stay
Great peaceful location. We loved swimming in the lake and admired picturesque scenery. Eduardo (house manager) was wonderful and extremely helpful. The property is pet friendly but not a lot of space for a dog to run and play with ball. We brought our inflatable boat which was great. the lake is not crowded with boats. Thank you.

Beautiful lake house
We had an amazing weekend! Got sooo lucky with this house, can’t even believe it was available a week before July 4th. The house looks old, like historic-not in a bad way. But it’s very clean and well taking care of. We felt like staying at gramma’s house. Beautiful view, easy access to the lake and dock, which was perfect for swimming or kayaking or whatever, there are two chairs and umbrella. It might be hard for some people to go up and down those stairs to get to the lake, but we had no problem. We enjoyed our stay very much. Hopefully we can bring our boat next time and stay here again. Great time! Thank you very much!

This rustic home was enjoyed by my husband, myself and our dog. We stayed for 6 days 5 nights, enjoyed the lake we visited covered bridge and waterfall in Kent CT, and we also hiked to the top of Mount Tom it was an enjoyable vacation

Rough around the edges.
If you have allergies, do not rent. We booked for 7 days of which I suffered for 4 until we left early. The "master" bedroom is very small and musty, the smell is over powering. I would wake up with tearing eyes and an irritated nose. The entire "cottage" is very dark, cluttered and decorated in yard sale/thrift store finds. The bedroom closets are packed so full of the owners stuff that you can not hang your clothes up. We used a closet in the hall which was only half full of the owners stuff. There are no bedside tables to put your book down on. There is a family of squires living in the walls (I am not making this up). This is a problem another renter had mentioned. The electrical needs to be updated. The caretaker (who was very helpful) warned us not to run all the appliances together or we would blow a fuse. The grill should be thrown away - the inside is rusting and there is very little metal left to the bottom. It barely held enough heat to grill burgers.
On a positive note, the dock appears to be new and is in excellent shape. The stone patio and steep stairs going down to the road and then the lake are in very good shape. There was fresh wood for the fire pit and the caretaker was sweeping the patio when we arrived. The wifi and cable TV worked well. We did reach out to the caretaker on several issues and he was very responsive.

Great house, many many stair steps
This vintage cottage is lovely, and my husband and I hope to go back again next summer. It's well equipped in every way, and even has an excellent collection of books for possible rainy days (of which we had none) which I, as a former professional librarian, appreciated. Only possible problem for some, would be the 43 steps down to the house, and about the same number from there down to the lake. It's the kind of house where you can see the owner's care in furnishing it -- clearly a long-time labor of love. Makes me wish I could meet that owner!

What a location! Warm and friendly host. And outside amenities are so well done.

Impeccably maintained property with loads of rustic New England charm!
My family and I were very impressed with the property. Upon arrival, it was apparent that the house had been prepared for our visit....outdoor tables were spotless (a tough feat when the pollen count is so high), the patio and stairs had been leaf blown and the a/c units were running inside the house. The inside of the cottage was immaculate and so inviting as well. The rooms were cozy, beds comfortable and all the appliances worked, as well as plenty of hot water! The dock on the lake was actually bigger than it looked in the photos and, again, well maintained. We also enjoyed using the canoes! We did grill on the barbecue, which was in good shape, and we really loved the outdoor fire pit! We enjoyed an evening sitting around a lovely fire and drinking wine. The outdoor lighting placed around the house and on the long walkway were well placed and well done. One challenge was the parking. It’s tight and, if you have a fear of heights, a bit daunting when pulling in and having to park on a slight downward incline. We also would like to suggest perhaps putting some type of protection around the upstairs shower, as water did get past the shower curtain. Also, the upstairs shower was a bit challenging for our tall men! Overall, we just loved the lake and the house and would definitely like to rent it again!!

Clean, cute cottage-missing essentials and some rodents in attic/walls
Lovely view, very clean and filled with antique metal items we couldn't identify. It was kind of fun trying to guess what use these items would have had in the past. There were 4 of us and I would not want another person there, as the cottage is small.
We were disappointed to find no wood to burn in the fire pit outside, nor the fireplace in the cottage. There also was no soap in either shower so we had to use the liquid hand soap. There was no dishwashing powder, so we couldn't run the dishwasher when we departed.
We were enjoying the lovely second floor dormer type attic with comfy furniture in the evening. It's a warm , clean space that's perfect for gathering and chatting. As we were talking and laughing we began to hear scratching and squeaking noises from the attic or walls. They continued, so we moved back downstairs to the main room. That's when we saw the plug in sonar to keep away rodents, plugged in the wall! There also was a rat trap outside.
Though we had fun and enjoyed our stay, the essentials missing and the presence of rodents negatively impacted our weekend.

Amazing dock and lake views
We have spent two consecutive summers at this cottage and love it. It is quiet, private and peaceful. The views from the dock are unparalleled. We enjoy making smores and sitting around the fire pit in the beautiful outdoor area. The owner and manager are very responsive and pleasant. The cottage is located close to the town beach and the shops in New Preston.
