An absolute must stay

Beautiful rooms and history Breakfast host Selina was an absolute delight & asset to the hotel

No lift but manager changed our room & upgraded us to a lower floor & helped with bags

Great location, walk to anywhere.

The location and parking was wonderful. The room spacious and warm. The staff helpful and friendly. Dinner in the pub was authentic and good choice. Bar was fun.

Plumbing was noisy and the drapes need repairs. The rooms need a little maintenance.

Exceptional

Old pub beautifully renovated. Very comfortable top quality highly recommended. Good food, staff very friendly and helpful.

Very good

We have stayed here several times before. The location is great and our room was very comfortable in general. The meal in the restaurant was reasonably priced and excellent.

The lighting in our room this time wasn't great and for the price (more than we normally pay for accommodation) we hoped that like on previous occasions we would get vouchers to use in the dining room but we didn't. Also, on our second night there was no hot water available for some reason, and it wasn't overly hot that morning either. Another little glitch was that our TV didn't initially work - staff pointed out that because the TV is raised the cord sometimes drops out - problem solved.

A pleasant time was had by all our group.

The breakfast was adequate. Sadly no coffee machine. Unfortunately the stairs were very steep. Perhaps “ no lift” should be mentioned in the literature. No grab rail in the large shower.

For the age of the building all was ok. Perhaps less focus on old style furniture…… Perhaps brighter plain carpet would be better .

Other than the hot water problem it was alright

The hot water the first night was cold and the staff new before we arrived that they had a problem and that room had cold water only. The problem was temporary fixed so we had hot water for the rest of our stay,

We had a very co.

The location of the hotel was very convenient. I loved the fact that we could just walk down to other restaurants and to the beach as well. The view of the jag our from our room was nice too.

Lovely hotel perfect location. Room and bathroom was exceptional. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Got room service from the pub below. Was first told the menu in our room was old and the prices were all wrong.obviously a busy night as they ran out of most things we wanted to order. Waited an eternity for the food, though when we did get it was very nice.

The towels were nice..thats about it...

The towels were nice! Our room on the second floor had a view of the foreshore and main street. The building has original character.

I usually refrain from offering a review of a ‘hotel’ given our stay was over the Christmas period and with the hangover from Covid, general shortage of staff etc but Mac’s in Portland deserves a kick along being as it is, the birthplace of Victoria! We were allocated a room on the second floor, no lift. No offer of help for luggage etc but am I already expecting too much for over $200 per night in a small town? maybe. Our room had not been dusted for a long time and there were food stains on the tables, hair on the floor in the bathroom and dirty tissues in the bedside table. Overall, not a good start. The TV was not working which I reported the next morning and then again the following morning. They said they ‘knew’ about that? Oh? so .. The internet was intermittent (they knew about that also) therefore the option to view TV programs on an iphone/tablet was also not an option. The TV was fixed day three but still had an inconsistent signal for our 6 nights. Adding to the list, the curtains on our two windows had come adrift from the rail admitting street lights all night. The windows had certainly not been cleaned recently. The room air conditioner did not work.. I did’nt bother to tell them as ‘They would have known about that…’ we luckily only had one 34 degree day. Continental breakfast was ‘included’ but it was a sparse affair. Continental breakfast by its heritage would normally include some of cold meats, cheeses, smoked salmon a variety of breads and yoghurts and crossisants as well as cereals. The Mac’s version was packaged cereals, tinned fruit, sliced bread only, a toaster, Tea urn with hot water and instant coffee. The very basics. Not even a Nespresso machine. You could order a cooked breakfast for extra cost. Staff were generally ‘Ok’ but I sensed that criticism given in even the mildest of ways would have finished them off..either getting my head bitten off or causing a breakdown.

Disappointing

Location,

Bed uncomfortable mattress needs upgrading. No coffee beans in dining room for breakfast. No coffee pods in room for coffee machine. Windows opaque so couldn't see out. Couldn't open windows so no fresh air.

historic building in a nice location

big room, very traditional large tv nice comfortable bed big windows location: central location, nice view staff were very friendly

facilities: the shower was lukewarm, wasn’t practical to use privacy: staff member walked in to see if we were leaving today noise: at 7am on a Sunday there was a radio playing outside our window in the pub that’s part of same hotel. it didn’t need to be on because the pub was closed

Atmosphere old pub,

Great location for watching the activity in town. Great verandah access. Good bed.

Shower over bath which sprayed water everywhere, very poor water pressure.

we loved our stay at the hotel

Breakfast was amazing, the views from our room {28} was breath-taking. fell in love with the old features of the building and rooms. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely book it next time we are around the area

Probably put the robes in the rooms as there were none in our room.

Spa bath not working after was filled waste of water should of been noted offered to change rooms but wasn't packing and moving floors
