More About Our Place:
This cozy Montana cabin is nestled on nearly four acres at the end of a one lane dirt road outside of Whitefish on Blanchard Lake, a serene spring fed lake. The land has been in my family since the 1940's and is a true treasure. The cabin was originally built as a summer cabin by my great aunt and uncle in the 1960's and most recently served as my father's home for the past couple of decades. The cabin faces the lake and it a great lake for swimming, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, and more in the summer. It has a loon habitat on the southern shore so large motor craft are not advised. In summer months the call of the loons can be heard from the house. If golfing is more your cup of tea, the Whitefish Golf Course is just three miles from the house. Add another mile down the road and you are in the beautiful, picturesque downtown area of Whitefish with galleries, shops, and restaurants. Whitefish was recently rated as one of the top twenty-five ski towns in the world by National Geographic. In summer the ski resort offers luge style rides as well as an extensive mountain bike trail system. In winter months you can cross country ski right out your door or grab your downhill gear and head 11 miles up to the Whitefish Mountain Resort. If groomed cross country trails are more your thing the Whitefish Golf Course turns into a lit, groomed cross country trail system in the winter.
The main house is a rustic 728 square feet and features two small bedrooms, one full bath, and open concept living, dining, and kitchen area that faces the water with an outdoor screened dining area and wrap around deck. We recently remodeled the kitchen and bath in July 2020. In the summer months there is a small guest cabin off the rear deck that has a bedroom and half bath that can be rented in addition to the main house. Please check with the homeowner on availability and rates to add the guest cabin. Your neighbors on the next two four acre parcels are my brothers, Aric and Tary King, and their wives. At one time the whole west side of the lake was owned by family. Now sections have been sold off, but some still remain including a one room log cabin in a family trust, but the last twelve acres is my immediate family including this retreat, Papa’s Place.
If you are interested in larger, newer property, or to be closer to Glacier, please check out our home in West Glacier, www.vrbo.com/413140. I bought the property and built the home while I was the principal/lead teacher in the two room school house in West Glacier. I now reside in Great Falls, Montana and work for Great Falls Public Schools and happy to share our homes on the west side of the Continental Divide with you and yours.
If you plan to visit Glacier National Park during your stay we highly recommend checking out their website. It has valuable information on trail and road openings/closings and conditions. The main road through the Park, Going-to-the-Sun, is usually open to Logan Pass by late June, early July.

Just what we wanted. Quiet, beautiful and cozy. Easy drive to Glacier and to downtown Whitefish. The property owner provided clear instructions and suggestions. Thank you!

The setting is lovely and peaceful. We loved hearing and seeing the loons. The cabin was very clean. The exterior is a little run down- feels like a cabin that’s been around for awhile. It didn’t bother us at all. The kitchen snd bath we’re both very nice and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable. My husband loved it!

The property was at the end of a 2 mile dirt road and very secluded steps from the lake. They communicated with me prior to arrival and the house was very clean and cozy. We even saw a Momma and baby bear about 14 feet from the road while driving down the road to the house! It was very exciting to see them in their natural habitat. We saw deer all around the property at dusk and dawn which was very relaxing. It was an amazingg place to stay and only 30 minutes from West Glacier.

Cabin was great--cool woodwork and classic vibe inside--and well-equipped. We enjoyed our stay, and provided the quiet spot we desired. My only caution is that the lake itself this time of year (Labor Day Weekend) is fairly inundated with lily pads, including nearly surrounding the private dock. Not a big deal for us (wasn't planning on swimming), and even added some beauty with the blooming flowers each day, but may be a deterrent if playing in the water this time of year is a draw?

Perfect place to stay if you want a little more peace than down town offers, it is still very close to down town. The place was exactly as described, the host and neighbors were very friendly and recommended some great spots to check out.

The property was beautiful, peaceful, just perfect! Wish we would have had more time! Love seeing the deer, and the hummingbirds. Kids seen different types of birds, squirrels, chipmunks. Lots of good memories made. Some bittersweet due to the 1st vacation without my husband. Loved that the place was away from the city, so that the kids could explore, and be away from phones, and video games, and everyone could appreciate beauty of nature. Blessed to have stayed at your cabin.

This cabin is perfect place to stay for a true Montana experience. The cabin is quaint and comfortable with everything you’d need inside. The dock and views of the water from the cabin were spectacular.

My wife and I used the Cabin as a base camp to see Glacier NP, during a 3 week driving trip through the Rocky Mountains. The cabin was clean, comfortable and quiet, with beautiful sunrises. The kitchen was well stocked and had a full size refrigerator which was very helpful to store our road food and to refreeze blue ice for our ice chest. Two things that guest need to be aware of: 1) the cabin is at the end of a long gravel road that would make finding the cabin difficult after dark. 2) There were several tears/ holes in the screened in porch which would make the outside table difficult to use after dark during bug season.

This little house had everything we needed and more! The view was beautiful and we saw lots of wildlife from the window, enjoyed dinners on the porch in a peaceful setting. Comfy beds and couch, had a pack n play and high chair for our little one, just perfect for us!

Beautiful property off of a secluded road in the trees outside of Whitefish. Easy water access with a dock and spectator sunrises. Loved the family history story! Would recommend this location for some great family time…

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Papa's Place. Exactly as described online. We spent most of our time on the deck overlooking the lake, enjoying the beautiful weather and wildlife. We were greeted by chipmunks, woodpeckers, and a deer.
The kitchen was well equipped, the beds had plenty of covers and pillows, and there were many board games to play.
Just a short drive to Whitefish Mountain Resort and Kalispell (we got groceries in town at Safeway which is just a few minutes away).
We look forward to returning when we can stay longer and enjoy the lake more

Rustic Peaceful Cabin in the Woods
A great place to escape from our busy lives. This cute cabin is about 10 minutes from downtown Whitefish. Blanchard Lake is very beautiful and quiet. The cabin in cozy and well stocked and the beds were comfortable. We enjoyed playing games inside during the rain storms. Cortni was a great host and provided lots of helpful information regarding the surrounding area.

Great place to stay!!
We loved our stay at Papa’s Place! Extremely clean and property as advertised. We sat by the water several times and enjoyed the complete quiet of the lake. We had deer in the yard several days and lots of different birds (we even had a flock of geese land on the lake while we were there). Beds are extremely comfortable, kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed and there was an impressive DVD selection for watching movies! Close proximity to GNP and many other outdoor activities. If you are looking for something ultra-modern, Papa’s Place is not for you. However, if you are looking for a quaint, comfortable and inviting place to disconnect from the world for a while, Papa’s Place is where you need to be. Would highly recommend, we hope to return in the summer months sometime and will likely stay at Papa’s Place again!

The cabin was very charming and exactly as described. There are 2 bedrooms with 1 common bathroom that was well appointed. The kitchen had everything you could need, but we only used it for breakfast since there are so many great restaurants nearby! (Get reservations) We were so worn out from hiking that we never got a chance to take the boats out on the lake, but they looked seaworthy and the lake itself was beautiful and peaceful. There were several deer that seemed to live nearby and we saw them several times a day. If you want to stay near Whitefish or hike Glacier, this is a great place to stay, very close to both and very quiet.

The property was just as Cortni described. We enjoyed gathering on the porch for meals gazing at the lake. The nights were chilly and we enjoyed sitting by the chimnea. My family members enjoyed waking up to “peeping fawns” grazing outside the window of the “cocoon” cabin.
Overall, this was a comfortable and well stocked cabin which helped make for a very pleasant vacation for us all.

It is definitely a “cabin in the woods”. It was exactly as you would expect. If you are looking for busy nightlife you should look else where. This place is true “Montana”. Sit and listen to the eagles in the trees and watch the deer meander around the property.
The downside is that the internet is extremely slow. You can go down by the dock and your service will be stronger. It could use a larger TV to watch with internet access. Not a place to do work while on the property but I guess that’s not a bad thing either. All in all, it is an amazing place to relax and watch the beauty of Montana unfold around you. Enjoy!

This was all I had hoped it would be. Reminded me of my grandparents cabin growing up and all within a short drive from Glacier National Park. Quiet, usually a deer or two in the yard every evening and/ or morning and plenty of waterfowl throughout the day. Cortni was awesome, letting me know about the pass restrictions and all of the current fires and burn bans locally.

Catfished! So many disappointing aspects of this place. It is listed as a 3 bedroom 2 bath, NOPE , you pay extra for the 3rd bed and toilet, this needs properly addressed in the listing. Fine print says extra "3rd bed and bath" are extra fee and deceptively hidden in description. The posted pictures appear to be quite a few years old, the property is run down and reminiscent of your old aunts house with completely outdated furnishings and decor, not even a full sized couch that could serve as an extra bed instead you pay an extra $75 a night for a glorified attached camper. If you like listening to rodents crawl around and munch on insulation in the ceiling all night then you are in luck! Dishwasher is literally falling apart, it runs without the door being shut so water started streaming out onto the floor. House on the lake with no fishing poles or at least "not for guests" we were told. Lots of old junk and hoses and just crap everywhere and don't lean on the rail on the upper deck, its about to crumble! Really nice hot tub up there as well, NOT! The lake is pretty but completely over run with lotus and Lilly pads making swimming or fishing from shore almost impossible. My husband found a half smoked joint on the fire pit, yes I know its legal in Montana but not something you want your teenagers seeing as soon as we arrive. This property could be amazing if it was taken care of, MAJOR disappointment and not worth the price, Whitefish or not, its a dump! But hey
at least they have loons.

My husband and I spent a wonderful week at Papa's Place. The cabin felt like the lake cabin where I spent many summers as a child -- but with modern comforts. We felt like we were out in the woods -- but could be in town for dinner within minutes. Thoughtful touches all around -- well-placed bird feeders, lakeside seat and fire pit, easy-to-reach outlets at the breakfast bar, lots of thick, fluffy towels. An absolutely delightful experience.
