More About Our Place:
This cozy Montana cabin is nestled on nearly four acres at the end of a one lane dirt road outside of Whitefish on Blanchard Lake, a serene spring fed lake. The land has been in my family since the 1940's and is a true treasure. The cabin was originally built as a summer cabin by my great aunt and uncle in the 1960's and most recently served as my father's home for the past couple of decades. The cabin faces the lake and it a great lake for swimming, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, and more in the summer. It has a loon habitat on the southern shore so large motor craft are not advised. In summer months the call of the loons can be heard from the house. If golfing is more your cup of tea, the Whitefish Golf Course is just three miles from the house. Add another mile down the road and you are in the beautiful, picturesque downtown area of Whitefish with galleries, shops, and restaurants. Whitefish was recently rated as one of the top twenty-five ski towns in the world by National Geographic. In summer the ski resort offers luge style rides as well as an extensive mountain bike trail system. In winter months you can cross country ski right out your door or grab your downhill gear and head 11 miles up to the Whitefish Mountain Resort. If groomed cross country trails are more your thing the Whitefish Golf Course turns into a lit, groomed cross country trail system in the winter.

The main house is a rustic 728 square feet and features two small bedrooms, one full bath, and open concept living, dining, and kitchen area that faces the water with an outdoor screened dining area and wrap around deck. We recently remodeled the kitchen and bath in July 2020. In the summer months there is a small guest cabin off the rear deck that has a bedroom and half bath that can be rented in addition to the main house. Please check with the homeowner on availability and rates to add the guest cabin. Your neighbors on the next two four acre parcels are my brothers, Aric and Tary King, and their wives. At one time the whole west side of the lake was owned by family. Now sections have been sold off, but some still remain including a one room log cabin in a family trust, but the last twelve acres is my immediate family including this retreat, Papa’s Place.

If you are interested in larger, newer property, or to be closer to Glacier, please check out our home in West Glacier, www.vrbo.com/413140. I bought the property and built the home while I was the principal/lead teacher in the two room school house in West Glacier. I now reside in Great Falls, Montana and work for Great Falls Public Schools and happy to share our homes on the west side of the Continental Divide with you and yours.

If you plan to visit Glacier National Park during your stay we highly recommend checking out their website. It has valuable information on trail and road openings/closings and conditions. The main road through the Park, Going-to-the-Sun, is usually open to Logan Pass by late June, early July.

Just what we wanted. Quiet, beautiful and cozy. Easy drive to Glacier and to downtown Whitefish. The property owner provided clear instructions and suggestions. Thank you!

The setting is lovely and peaceful. We loved hearing and seeing the loons. The cabin was very clean. The exterior is a little run down- feels like a cabin that’s been around for awhile. It didn’t bother us at all. The kitchen snd bath we’re both very nice and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable. My husband loved it!

The property was at the end of a 2 mile dirt road and very secluded steps from the lake. They communicated with me prior to arrival and the house was very clean and cozy. We even saw a Momma and baby bear about 14 feet from the road while driving down the road to the house! It was very exciting to see them in their natural habitat. We saw deer all around the property at dusk and dawn which was very relaxing. It was an amazingg place to stay and only 30 minutes from West Glacier.

Cabin was great--cool woodwork and classic vibe inside--and well-equipped. We enjoyed our stay, and provided the quiet spot we desired. My only caution is that the lake itself this time of year (Labor Day Weekend) is fairly inundated with lily pads, including nearly surrounding the private dock. Not a big deal for us (wasn't planning on swimming), and even added some beauty with the blooming flowers each day, but may be a deterrent if playing in the water this time of year is a draw?

Perfect place to stay if you want a little more peace than down town offers, it is still very close to down town. The place was exactly as described, the host and neighbors were very friendly and recommended some great spots to check out.

The property was beautiful, peaceful, just perfect! Wish we would have had more time! Love seeing the deer, and the hummingbirds. Kids seen different types of birds, squirrels, chipmunks. Lots of good memories made. Some bittersweet due to the 1st vacation without my husband. Loved that the place was away from the city, so that the kids could explore, and be away from phones, and video games, and everyone could appreciate beauty of nature. Blessed to have stayed at your cabin.

This cabin is perfect place to stay for a true Montana experience. The cabin is quaint and comfortable with everything you’d need inside. The dock and views of the water from the cabin were spectacular.

My wife and I used the Cabin as a base camp to see Glacier NP, during a 3 week driving trip through the Rocky Mountains. The cabin was clean, comfortable and quiet, with beautiful sunrises. The kitchen was well stocked and had a full size refrigerator which was very helpful to store our road food and to refreeze blue ice for our ice chest. Two things that guest need to be aware of: 1) the cabin is at the end of a long gravel road that would make finding the cabin difficult after dark. 2) There were several tears/ holes in the screened in porch which would make the outside table difficult to use after dark during bug season.
