My stay was underwhelming and disappointing.
Close proximity to the Exhibition Centre, reasonably inexpensive pricing.
The whole place needs quite a bot of TLC. An ironing board and iron on the room would be useful; the laundry facilities were woeful indeed. Got woken up at around 2 am in the morning of Friday, 10th May by the fire alarm going off because of an inconsiderate guest smoking. Some of the reception staff were unfriendly. This place could’ve been so much better than what it was, which is a shame as it is a historic hotel. I would like to say I’d return, but I honestly can’t.

Bad enough.
Strategic position.
Music from pubs too loud, hotel not quiet in the night, people screaming in the street in the night, even around 4 am, no one does anything for make that change. Two nights there and sleep only around 4 hours per night!

Extreme Mould Problem, awful hotel
Staff were friendly enough Room was large Close to the sea
- I thought it was suspicious that my door was open when I arrived at check-in. I realised quickly that my room has a damp/mould problem and they had been airing it out. The mould problem is BAD. - My room was humid as soon as the door was closed. - My room's window was just black frosted glass and couldn't be opened, so the humidity couldn't leave. - I heard water dripping in my walls/ceilings during the night, all night. The building is very leaky - AC blew damp mouldy air onto my face all night, causing me to wake at around 4am with painfully blocked sinuses and a really bad headache - Toilet was broken and kept filling up all night - I could hear my neighbour using their toilet as though they were in the room with me. Very gross - I'm still awaiting my refund as I left after just one night and stayed the remaining 7 nights elsewhere - Free WiFi was nonexistent. Like, you connect to a WiFi signal (which has full bars) but the WiFi itself appears to be shared across the whole building. I couldn't even Google local restaurants, never mind call home via WhatsApp. As a remote worker this was a major issue - I spoke to reception and was told they couldn't move me to a new room - Upon check-in they take a non negotiable $100 key deposit from you. I've had key deposits before but nothing more than $20. This felt exploitative - I was told I would be fined over $1000 if my room's fire alarm went off, and was told that steam from my shower would trigger the fire alarm even if the door was closed, and that fire alarms and evacuations were a daily occurrence. I didn't really need to feel anxious about taking a shower, nor that I'd be woken up at a moment's notice to evacuate the building. - it felt malicious to be threatened with a hefty fire alarm fine if Hide's faulty fire alarm systems were oversensitive - breakfast is cheaper if booked in advance.

An overall enjoyable stay. Value for money and a city central location.
Great location with Woolies across the road and the Irish pub within staggering distance of our room :-)
The lift between floors is a bit slow
