Make the CSSR Great Again!

Gloriously, unselfconsciously retro. Shiny wallpaper, striped carpets, and lots and lots of dark wood-grain plastic. Teeny-tiny elevators but it's worth the wait. The room even has kind of a retro smell, but in a good way - some kind of robust industrial-strength cleaning products they use, none of this delicate 21st-century stuff. Just like the bad old days except the staff are pleasant and the food is present. The room was huge. Great wellness center in the basement.

Restaurant seemed to keep different hours than what was posted, and was closed for a wedding on Saturday; weddings happen of course, but advance notice would have been nice. Massage in the wellness center was lackluster.

Good hotel but not in hot weather

We booked a room but got an apartment with 2 rooms, so it was larger than expected. Toilet and bathroom was separated which was great and unusual for a hotel room. Hotel and room was clean, breakfast was excellent, price seemed to be lower than in similar hotels - during our stay we found out the probable reason.

The room did not have air conditioning and had a tilt window with minimal opening, preventing ventilation of the room. During hot summer days the room heats up, and although the night was chilly outside we were boiling in the room because we were not able to properly open the window and the tilt window did not let in any fresh air, only the huge noise from the street. So a good sleep was impossible. Hotel's response to a similar review was: - They could have asked for the window to be opened by hotel staff - How were we supposed to know about that option when there was a sign posted on the window explicitly stating that the windows cannot be opened? - They could have asked for a room with A/C - We did not need an A/C, and we could not have known when we made the booking that the windows cannot be opened, in all hotels there is either a window that can be opened or there is A/C (or both).

Exceptional

It was our third stay in Hotel Metropol and it is always a pleasure. Rooms are spacious, Spa centre is really nice, breakfast is good and various. Thank you for the hospitality, especially to manager Ariadna. Hope we will back soon.

Toilet ventilation and lamp are controlled by one one switch, they must be turned on and turned off together. Maybe we could use 2 different switch because the fan is noisy. There is no acceptable power supply around the table.

Newly furnished rooms.

Service depends on who is on duty. On some days they could manage to refill coffee, or give us dinner after 20.00, but on other days they said it is not possible. (depends on chef)

Potential for improvement...

Location, staff, breakfast

Wifi signal terrible in the room, had to use 4g to work at the desk. Mold on refrigerator shelves, bad smell in saunas, flying bugs in the room and bathroom.

Lovely hotel sort out the pipes I think it suffers from water hammer in the system

Good but with some shortcomings

The staff was nice, size of the room, free parking, good breakfast, convenient location. Good value/price ratio.

The biggest problem was the lack of air conditioning which made it difficult to sleep these hot days. The additional beds (kindly provided by the hotel staff) were not very comfortable. Bathrooms could be better furnished in a 4 star hotel, there was little place to put things. The wellness I did not see, I was not aware it is not meant for kids below 15 years (I’m not sure it was clear or not in the announcement on booking.com).

Comfortable for a couple of nights.

Breakfast was an extensive buffet and very good. Beds were very comfortable.

Small bathroom and separate toilet. Poor water pressure in shower. Lifts just about fit 2 people with a case each. Our bedroom door was automatic closing and had a very loud bang on closing no matter what we did. My phone couldn't connect to the WiFi anywhere in the hotel, never had a problem before.

Dated old hotel but has all the amenities required for a comfortable stay.

The hotel feels like you stepped back into the 1960s but it is well maintained. The staff were efficient although not overly friendly. The breakfast was very nice and the restaurant meals were great.

The hotel was basically empty. Although it was walking distance to the main strip, it is not located in the "center of things"

There was a wedding on Saturday. They partied all night until 4 am. It was very loud, and hard to sleep.

Superb

The room was very spacious and there was a separate toilet. The sauna centre was really relaxing and we were lucky that there were not many other guests (it can get crowded quickly). Breakfast was full of fresh products (including pancakes &eggs) and it even had a little gluten free section. We were on the 6th floor and had the nice view of the High Tatras mountains.

The building itself and it's location within the town are a bit run down. Although the room was still in ok condition, the bathroom/toilet and carpet on the floor were clearly dated from the previous century. Also, the curtains were not blinding, so the room was covered in light from an early hour.

we upgraded to the 9th floor and received a very convinient and large room. The staff was friendly and assisted us finding a restaurant in the evening the hotel;s restaurant has a poor variety of food
