Brilliant, excellent value for money, great location and super-welcoming and helpful host.
definitely the host - Oliver was the most welcoming host you could think of, he gave us great advice (even after we left), 2 complete itineraries with places worth seeing (1 for travels up north and one for travels down south), he let us stay some extra time in the Residence and always cared for our needs (brought us bottles of water, clean towels, etc), he always responded to our texts immediately. Also, the place is just next to a bus stop so transport is very easy, close to bars, restaurants, shops and the seafront, within the walking distance. The area is really nice and you can see beautiful places in all directions, not far from the place. We loved our stay.
Everything was really clean but just one small thing - the area around water tap could be cleaned a little more (probably with a different detergent, try vinegar for instance) to come to perfection. :-) Otherwise, there was nothing one could dislike.

The best place to stay in Malta with the most hospitable host
The best is the host of the place, vintage climate and the location, next to the bus stops, the best restaurant in Malta just across the street - Food (La Buona Trattoria del Nonno).

Superb
The host, Oliver, went above and beyond to make sure the guests are comfortable and happy. There was a information booklet waiting for me on my bed, there was complimentary coffee, tea and water and Oliver offered every guest a free walking tour through the neighborhood, which was very helpful and insightful. He knows all about St. Pauls, the history, the best places to go and is more than happy to give you an itinerary for day trips in the area. I had the best day thanks to his suggestions and his local insider knowledge. Even after I checked out he offered help if I had any questions regarding my stay on Malta. I also got a little goodbye souvenir, which was a very nice touch and made my stay even more memorable. His house is decorated with a lot of attention to detail, very quirky and unique. Its in a central location, supermarket, restaurants, bus stop, all very close in walking distance.

Very nice stay in an original, really not forgettable accommodation
Owner of the The 1930's Maltese Residence is very friendly and helpful. His hospitality and readiness to fulfil all wishes of his guests is extraordinary. Just after our arrival he proposed a short walk in the neighbourhood, informing us about the best places to eat, to do shopping and to visit. Additional blankets as well plates, mugs and cutlery were provided on our request, except for complimentary tea, coffee and water. Last night before our very early checking-out he left a nice gift for us. He was also told us about the history of his really impressive residence, full of several decades old items, like old radios or the genuine, still working pathephone or jukebox. Its location is quite, although close to a bus stop, a small supermarket, fruit/vegetable shop and two very good restaurants. The grocery supermarket open till late, even on Sundays, is achievable in walking distance. You can eat or just seat on a sunny terrace with a big table. Our room No 5 has the view toward a yard, so it is really quite. A nice surprise in our room, apparently in all rooms also: you do not need AC adapters to use your electrical equipment, if not UK-type. Wall sockets suit to both UK, Schuko and other types. Besides, there have USB sockets for charging your smartphones etc.
Everything was OK, perhaps the room would be a little bigger.

Difficult.
Mr. Oliver is very polite and willing to answer to everything we have asked about. We really do thank him!
We stayed at room no 2. It was completely uncomfortable, the bathroom the worst I have ever seen in my life, small, horrible, it really needs renovation. The water was once very hot and once very cold, it was impossible to take a shower. We paid ~80Euros per nigt and the real value is 30max.
