A magical setting for a summer family reunion. The home - full of history and character - is steps from ocean, meadow, and forest. And Ben, the proprietor, couldn’t be more informative, kind, and thoughtful. He was spot-on with all of the area’s gems, and the surprise homemade berry/rhubarb pie was a huge hit. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you very much, Ben!

This is a charming victorian home with so much room!! Plenty of bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, fan, and storage space. Ocean and meadow views. Wonderful sea breezes.
Ben is working hard to maintain and improve this property. He was easily available and full of suggestions and tidbits.
Location is perfect. Close enough to both Schoodic and Acadia but far enough away from the hustle and bustle.
I would definitely recommend this property.

Ben was a spectacular host! He had a lot of great suggestions for what to do in the area. The house had great access to the beach and Schoodic peninsula activities that were much less crowded than the Bar Harbor area. It was only an hour away from Bar Harbor, so not a bad drive for activity booked there. Only 5 minutes from Lunch on the Wharf…one great lunch!

Our kind host Ben met us upon arrival and described all the nearby attractions and we took full advantage. In addition to the sandy ocean beach across the road, we hiked Schoodic Head in nearby Acadia, ate at Lunch on the Wharf in Corea, golfed at Grindstone, hiked and swam at Donnell Lake SP, explored Petit Manan Bird Sanctuary and visited Winter Harbor for coffee and breakfast. Our 3 generation family group of 13 appreciated the many bedrooms with private baths!

It was wonderful. Ideal location away from the crowded tourist areas but convenient to Acadia park. Ben met us when we arrived and gave us information on the local area. When we were leaving my granddaughter said she didn’t want to leave. House was very unique and lovely.

Unique in that there was a lot to do, beach day, fishing, Bar Harbor, Acadia, etc.

We were a party of 12 and range in age from 2 to 80. A wonderful time was had by all! Ben was great to talk to - helpful and had super suggestions regarding the area. We thank him so much

We had the most wonderful stay at Prospect Harbor!! We had 3 generations vacationing with us and there was something to do for everybody. The house is expansive with ensuite bathrooms in every bedroom (a very rare find!), including a first floor suite perfectly designed for older family members who have trouble with stairs. A gorgeous private beach is directly across the street and we enjoyed walking down first thing in the morning with our coffee and again later in the day to sit and enjoy the quiet and the sun. Incredible hikes are nearby, with varied terrain and for all skill levels. It was a perfect place to bring the dogs, which are welcome everywhere including restaurants. The house has many areas to grab some alone time and a fabulous living room and dining room area where all can gather together for meals and games. Cannot recommend highly enough! We hope to come back with an even bigger group next time and also rent the gorgeous Inn next door! Thank you to our wonderful host Ben who was available to answer any questions and share his recommendations, and for entertaining us with uplifting stories of how he and his wife were able to preserve this beautiful and unique area from development.

We enjoyed this property greatly. A perfect spot to experience the Downeast coast. Lots of places to hike, enjoy the wild flowers, the beach right across the street, listening to the gentle tide come in at night, used the lobster pot provided to have an authentic lobster dinner, and of course the ferry into Bar Harbor for souvenirs. The hikers in the family did Cadillac Mt , while others just lounged around the inn and read.
The best part was the teen age girls did not miss the Jersey shore at all.
Lots big Great Memories Made.

We stayed one week at this 1820’s house and had a wonderful time. We were 12 guests in a 3-generation family vacation. There was room for everyone with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. The large dining area was perfect for our grilled meals plus a couple of nights of board games. The location of the house, away from touristy Bar Harbor, proved to be perfect for exploring the Schoodic side of Acadia National Park. Hikers in the family were delighted by the abundance of uncrowded trails. Close to the house we found several restaurants but check times because they are not open all week and close early. We drove to Acadia on Mount Desert Island several times, always later in the afternoon when crowds were smaller and parking readily available. Visiting Sand Cove across the street (the sand, the rocks, the water) was very popular with all the children. Ben, our host, was very generous with his time, suggesting several places to explore. We took his advice and were never disappointed. We are very happy with the time we spent in Maine. We created memories that will last a lifetime.

Porch by the Ocean
The front porch was the best part, being able to see the ocean and hear the tide coming in and out. The kids enjoyed jumping in the tide and playing on the rocks across at the beach. Nice location!
The kitchen was stocked with plenty of dishes, pots, pans & silverware for all 15 of us. There are 3 common areas for everyone to hang out together or be in separate areas.
Ben took care of any issues quickly such as a shower temp gauge being replaced and a raccoon with her kits(humanely discouraged from the chimney). May have seen the top of a moose's head early morning. across the street. Ben's daughter gave us the tour of the house and gave suggestions for things to do locally.(Schroodic part of the park is pretty) Some of our crew did go to Bar Harbor for a few of the days, although at least a 50 minute drive one way.
Many local restaurants closed Monday and Tuesday or limited hours during the week. Liked Lunch by the wharf for lunch, just a few miles away. A couple of ice cream places to go to nearby. Can pick up food supplies in Ellsworth (about 25 minutes away at Hannaford's or Shaw's.
It worked for us and gave everyone their privacy and room to be together.

Overall we had a great time during our trip. The house was quite spacious and well equipped and is on a beautiful stretch of land. The property is very close to the Schoodic portion of Acadia (as advertised), but is about an hour from Bar Harbor, (which is something to keep in mind). The property manager is very willing to communicate and provides exceptionally detailed information regarding activities in the area. Overall the house was kept up reasonably well and clean, although an occasional deeper cleaning could be of benefit (some sand, cobwebs, ect). Overall this was a great stay.

View from the porch
I was able to enjoy seeing the family from the porch because I couldn’t venture down to the beach

Our first trip to Maine and we thoroughly enjoyed the area with the farmhouse adding an unexpected treat - just across the street is a private beach (that the dogs loved) and you can hear the waves on the beach from the bedrooms, you can enjoy the view from the front porch and veranda. Ben was more than generous with his time in helping us understand what the area had to offer. A 200 yr old home has some unique characteristics but it made it all the more authentic as we used the home as our base for exploring from Bar Harbor to West Quoddy Head.
