Very good

The location was fantastic and was also part of a working farm. The rooms were excellent and the host was very welcoming and was interesting to talk to. We were allowed to walk around the farm at our leisure and included a walk up the hillside to get a wonderful view of the sunset . Overall we really loved our stay here and would thoroughly recommend it as long as you can put up with the laid back atmosphere.

After a long day's travel it was a bit disconcerting to arrive to find no-one in reception to check in with. We were lucky to find a member of staff near the kitchen who found us a key to our apartment. 3 hours after our arrival we met our host as we were going out to get a meal.he immediately offered to arrange to feed us despite the late hour and the fact he and his staff were preparing for a wedding the next day

A beautiful place

What a stunning location. I was there with my 2 dogs. We wandered around the farm. A very relaxed stay - like home from home. I had dinner and breakfast as well. Dinner was excellent, as was breakfast. Highly recommended.

Too short, a but very pleasurable overnight stay.

We visited when the three gentlemen who rode their scooters from Porto were visiting. It was the most charming and fun evening we had while visiting Portugal. The three gentlemen were keen to tell us about Portugal through the unfiltered eyes of people who were not guiding tourists through the countryside. Our host was wonderful, exceptionally knowledgeable about the wines and olive oils produced in the Chaves region. He was also able to give us tips about what to see in Chaves before we left the area. Our dinner was tasty and good, cooked, again, using produce from the region. All the grooms in Quinta de Mata were large, clean, and comfortable. Before leaving, we had a typical and filling Portuguese breakfast.

I cannot think of anything that we did not like.

A very enjoyable stay

Great location with good parking and a very welcoming host. Nice evening meal provided after asking prior to arrival.

It took a while to get hot water in the morning but as this is a very old building it was possibly to be expected

Superb

I love this place! It’s beautiful and old! It’s comfortable and relaxing! The people who run the place are friendly and accommodating, and I can bring my best friend with me which is such a treat to find such a beautiful place to stay and be able to bring my dog who is clean, well behaved, quiet and friendly!

We liked the sheep, hens, cherry trees and rural atmosphere with an outstanding view over the city. The host was gracious and informative.

Sad experience.

Lovely old building and rooms full of charm.

No one was there, no one told us there would be no food availability in the evening so we went to bed hungry. I couldn't wait to leave the next morning, a real uncomfortable experience.

Place out of this world

What a unique place! We loved the warm welcome, the uniqueness of the place, the wine, the owner who spent so much time with us, the animals around and collecting the eggs we had the next day for breakfast! Thank you for a lovely stay! If you want to have dinner there make sure you let them know in advance.

if you go there in the ´winter times’ make sure you have warm pyjamas :-)

We had an excellent stay in the old world elegance of Quinta de Mata.

We were met by the owner who provided us with a wonderful history of the property and tour of the home and gardens. The home is a former noble manor and looks every inch of the elegance it must have one had. The bed was wonderful, linens superb, and the art and furnishings were sublime. The breakfast was filling and delicious. From start to finish, we could not believe how very lucky we were to have found Quinta de Mata.

Exceptional

Loved the property and place it situated which was outside of the city. You could not get better host than Luis - he is attentive and helpful in any way possible and beyond, he knows about the region, permaculture and wine. Surroundings of the Quinta are gorgeous and so are the furry friends. And breakfast was excellent, too. Everything went really smoothly.

Just perfect

Great location on a farm/mata. Louis was great host, showing us his farm and the area history. I loved the house and our large room. Great being a small 5min drive from Chaves.

An unforgettable experience in Portugal.

The Quinta da Mata is,frankly,exceptional.From the welcome we received,when we first arrived, to the warmth of the lady who prepared our final breakfast-which was outstanding,both in quality and variety-the professionalism and friendliness of the members of this community is second to none.

We were disappointed not to have the opportunity to dine in the establishment,but we fully understood that it was not viable for a set meal to be prepared for just one couple.In any case, we were directed to an excellent restaurant,close to the Quinta da Mata.

Amazing location. Beautiful gardens in the farm. Very interesting house with a story of its own. And just like everyone else here, we say thanks to our host who was happy to chat away for hours. The dinners should come with a warning tho as the portions were huge :)

A very happy return

Seeing Quinta da Mata in late Spring was a bonus after our recent visit in December 2020. It’s a great location for a day’s drive heading to Santander for the ferry back to the UK. Such beautiful gardens and the surrounding area and not far from the wonderful town of Chaves. The dogs loved it too!

Nothing to fault as Luís is such a great host.

Amazing hospitality and wonderful place

The quinta building is beautiful, as well as areas around and the view. We have had a very warm welcome and we were very impressed by the hospitality. The owner is very nice, he shares the story of the place. And this place is fantastic, with an unique atmosphere and touch of care at every little thing. Breakfast is also wonderful. Highly recommended and we are looking forward to come back one day for a proper longer stay. Also to note, we are traveling with a baby and a cat, and they both were very welcome and enjoyed this place very much. Many thanks for this charming experience. Truly Memorable Location and Excellent Host

Such an interesting accommodation from a historical perspective; fantastic views and fabulous inside, so rich in history. Luis was an excellent, excellent host and although we were the only ones there, we had a very tasty dinner. We could only stay a night which doesn’t do Quinta da Mata any justice, and perhaps winter doesn’t reveal the property in all its glory. We slept well after a long journey and the bedrooms are beautiful. Thank you Luis for looking after my sister and I so well.

Just a little in the cool side in the morning in the bedroom for me, but there was a portable heater which heated up the bathroom wonderfully to get dressed after showering.
