Unpleasant stay

The staff is friendly

The manager doesn't even have the decency of greeting guests. The room was not what I had booked Don't have extra blankets for the guests Menu was even worse for a 5 star hotel, underwhelming

Sehr gut:) teilweise etwas in die Jahre gekommen.

Sehr schöne Lodge mit schönen Safaris:) wir haben beide Safaris gemacht und waren insbesondere von der Scotia Safari begeistert. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend! Sehr leckeres Abendessen:) zuvor wurde nachgefragt, ob man Allergien hat oder Vegetarier ist und das wurde dann auch beim Essen beachtet und umgesetzt. Sogar auf der Safari gab es extra einen vegetarischen Snack für die Vegetarier. Das war wirklich super organisiert!

Wir hatten eine frühe Safari in den Addo gebucht, um 06:45 Uhr konnte man zum Frühstück kommen und wir waren pünktlich da. Unser warmes Frühstück kam dann erst um ca. 07:20, um 07:30 Uhr sollte es losgehen. Das war stressig und schlecht organisiert, zudem gab es nur einen halbgaren Pancake, vermutlich weil es schnell gehen musste denn am nächsten Tag waren diese deutlich besser und auch mehr als einer. Käse gab es leider (außer geriebenen) beim Frühstück keinen. Beim Abendessen wurde gewartet bis alle Tische da waren, sodass man selbst wenn man pünktlich war, lange auf sein Essen bzw den Start des Abendessens warten musste. Teppichboden im Zimmer hat viel Ungeziefer angezogen. Wir hatten ständig Käfer im Zimmer. Insgesamt wirkte unser Zimmer etwas in die Jahre gekommen.

Welcoming and friendly staff. Particularly Ryan who was a delight .Amazing view. Huge comfortable room with balcony overlooking the countryside. Large bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower and elegant bath. Great restaurant with wonderful food. 4 course dinner served in an elegant dining room. Brilliant wine cellar. You just enter the cellar and choose your own wine from a fantastic selection Lovely pool area. Several to choose from Highly recommend booking a game drive to Addo. We saw a herd of over 100 elephants The most incredible experience We had a wonderful time Thank you so much

Viel zu teuer und gruselig

Gruselig dort. Alles schon sehr altbacken aus früheren Zeiten- dunkel, kolonial und gruselig. Der Weg dorthin war alles andere als einfach ( Dirt Road) und schon garnicht nah am Addo. Das Bett war total unbequem und steinhart. Das Preisleistungsverhältnis stimmt überhaupt nicht!

Schöne Lodge mit etwas Renovierungsnedarf

Tolle Lage mit schöner Aussicht. Grosse Bungalows mit guter Ausstattung. Sehr freundliches Personal, gutes Dinner, tolles Frühstück

Die Anlage ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen, Wasser- und Elektroinstallation sollten erneuert werden. 30-45 min über z.T. gravel roads bis zum Addo Park ist etwas lang.

Amazing hotel with amazing staff

The hotel was very nice, we had a huge room with a private pool. It was stunning! The staff were amazing and went above and beyond to make sure we had a pleasant stay. Would definitely come back.

Luxe verblijf in de buurt van Addo

We hebben een heerlijk verblijf gehad bij Hitgeheim. Als gezin kregen we twee aan een gesloten kamens wat erg prettig was. De service was zeer goed. Tevens 2 avonden heerlijk gegeten (4 gangen) met genoeg diversiteit. Wij zouden hier zeker terug komen.

Sehr schön Lodge mit freundlichenm Personal

Sehr freundliches und zuvorkommendes Personal. Das Essen und der Weinkeller waren hervorragend. Auf jeden Fall eine Reise wert. Speziellen Dank auch an den Chef de Cuisine.

Schöne Erfahrung jedoch sehr durchwachsen

Ganz herzlichen Dank an unsere Gastgeber. Wir hatten einen schönen Aufenthalt. Der Service ist sehr schnell und korrekt. Alle waren sehr freundlich. Die Unterkunft war sauber. Duschgel, Hand Cream, Shower Gel… sind inklusive. Kosten R150 je Stück wenn man es für zu Hause kaufen möchte. Die Außendusche ist super! Schön groß und mit Blick in den blauen Himmel. Der Ausflug in den Addo Elefant Nationalpark war großartig, Getränke und Picknick inklusive.

Die Bilder der Unterkunft bei Booking sind heller, freundlicher und farblich angenehmer als in Wirklichkeit. Wlan ist langsam, man fliegt oft raus. Wir hatten einige kleine Käfer im Zimmer, wegen der dunklen Einrichtung sind sie schlecht zu sehen, als wir es vor Abreise ansprachen, wollte das Hotelpersonal sich sofort kümmern. Bettwäsche war optisch nicht sauber.

“Ich hatte eine Farm in Afrika”

Die Lage und die Anlage als solche verstzten einem in Afrika-feeling .

Die Anfahrt ûber die Schotterstrasse ist nicht ohne. Nicht Googlemap folgen, sondern die Wegbeschreibung des Hotels gut durchlesen und diese Anfahrt nehmen !

Schöne Unterkunft nahe zum Addo

Sehr schönes und großes Zimmer mit einem tollen Ausblick, Out- und Indoordusche und einem leckeren Frühstück. Wir haben besonders die Nähe zum Addo geschätzt und waren froh, nach einem langen Tag nicht noch so weit fahren zu müssen.

Leider hat uns die Atmosphäre nicht so angesprochen, da zwar das Personal super nett und zuvorkommend war, jedoch gefühlt sehr distanziert und wenig kommunikativ wirkte. Vorab gab es dafür umso mehr E-Mails, da viele Informationen angefragt wurden, die wir lieber spontan und Vorort entschieden hätten. Das WLAN hat bei uns auf dem Zimmer leider nur selten bzw. schlecht funktioniert.

Absolute haven. Returned from holiday rested and relaxed.

Hitgeheim is an absolute haven. The staff are friendly and attentive, the food was excellent and the rooms; spacious and comfortable. I would definitely return in a heartbeat.

Great location to be close to nature

The location is truly magical with great views and surrounded by nature - no noise from any roads! The gravel driveway (behind the gate) is long enough to make for a good/safe running route, which was an added bonus. The vibe is definitely to book dinner and tours, which we weren't planning on doing and felt a little awkward at check in. I was also surprised that such a luxury stay had the cheapest hair dryer in the room.

No coffee in the room was a let down. There was a kettle with nescafe sachets and truly minuscule mugs, and I thought this didn't suit the luxury of the environment. Coffee on the porch would have been such a dream :(

The Addo tour promoted by the hotel was sub par- that was very disappointing. The lodge should seek to associate it self with better quality.

This lodge is fabulous and brilliantly run by the owner, Archie Hitge.

We stayed in a superior suite with two private terraces. Fantastic views. Hotel restaurant was first class with impeccable service. The pool area felt very private with more fantastic views The owner and staff make the place into a unique experience

Small point but the lighting in the room was a little dim.

We were so lucky to have booked room 9 (the one with the private pool). it was a big and comfortable room and bathroom (bath, shower, outdoor shower,…) Breakfast was just perfect with a great view. The staff was excellent, very helpfull and overly friendly. We had booked the Addo morning drive with them, the open car was big and the ranger was funny, smart and kind. You can do the Addo Park with your own car, but I would highly recommend it to do it with the expertise of their guide. As for food, 2 out of the 3 dinners were very good, one was just good, so no complaints 🙌. We wanted to book the Schotia game drive, but it was fully booked, so reserve on time (we just waited too long). in case it’s fully booked, you can try Amakhala - an hour drive from Hitgeheim (good roads, easy to find). All in all we had a magnificant stay with a good balance between adventure and chill.

Great lodge for a short stay in the Addo area.

Great location overlooking the valley. comfortable rooms. loved the outdoor shower and relaxing at the pool. Excellent tour to Addo Elephant park with Saul, one of the guides.

Exemplary hosting and safari access

A beautiful Lodge where the staff couldn't be nicer. Well organised, delightful and kind. Nothing was too much bother. Even as we left, we found they had washed the car! Above and beyond with fantastic trips.

The long drive took a bit of navigating and we did wonder why a one year old infant was on a 6 hour safari!

Great Views

Location. Views over the valley. Great breakfast with varied choices.. Good size rooms.

Evening meals - limited to set 4 course meal. Would have preferred more choice. Addo Elephant Safari, we enjoyed the experience but felt it was far too long (6 hours).

wonderful stay in a beautiful and well thought out lodge

we had a wonderful stay - the rooms were really big and very clean. the view from the terrace and the outdoor shower were particular highlights!

property is a 20 mins drive from Addo - we did the Addo Safari and a fair bit of time to get to the park. also, felt the safari could have left earlier.
