Relaxing apart from the torrential rain

lovely, comfortable room. very clean and set in a beautiful location and a lovely garden that you could relax in! breakfast was really good quality ( and thick bacon!) The hosts were very friendly too! A wonderful 3 night break!

No sooner that we got there we left to find alternative accommodation. Do not waste your money.

The bed and breakfast was located in Hawkeshead

The room was shabby, very basic with stains. The ensuite bathroom (a toilet and the tiniest of showers) was located in what was an old fitted wardrobe with a sliding door that made an awful noise when you opened and shut it. When you used the so called facilities you could not close the door for any privacy. We paid for a mountain view which did not exist - the room looked out over a driveway with several abandoned cars! The property was surrounded by dirty tables, with bags of soil and compost sat on them and weeds - it was more like a junkyard than a tea garden! When we were in the room we could hear the television in the room next door as stupidly it was on the same wall as our headboard! When we questioned the proprietor regarding the mountain view he muttered that all the rooms were the same, which did not answer the question. We left the property virtually as soon as we arrived absolutely disgusted.

Great location and incredible hosts!

Fabulous location right in the heart of Hawkshead, with ample free parking. Steve and Sharon are such lovely hosts and went well above & beyond to make sure that we had a great stay. The dining room and communal entrance hall are lovely comfortable areas, and beautifully decorated. Breakfast and service were both really nice!

The property is smaller than we expected, especially our bedroom, but this is probably our own fault for not checking... It is a great place and I would definitely stay again, but do just be aware of the bedroom size when you book.

Comfortable and cozy

We had a great stay with Sharon and Steve at Schoolhouse Cottage. Nothing was too much trouble for these lovely hosts and our needs were fully catered for. Great selection for breakfast; including the usual full English, smoked salmon and eggs, fresh fruits, toast, granola, plus additional options for Veggie, fresh coffee and OJ, all delicious. Rooms were cozy and comfortable with good quality linen, duvets and pillows. The property itself is an old cottage so the bedroom was a little bit small, but to offset this there is an enormous sun room in the garden with unrestricted access, lovely place to sit in the afternoons and evening after dinner. Sharon and Steve were both wonderful and attentive hosts, we were greeted every afternoon with a fresh pot of tea which was welcomed after our long swimming adventures in the lakes. Thank you both, we hope to be back again next year to swim Ulswater end-to-end!

An enjoyable short break at a very friendly b&b.

A warm welcome and good breakfasts. Key to come and go as we wanted, and free to sit in garden. A real bonus to have onsite parking.

Room and en suite we had, whilst including all facilities, had limited space to move around and seemed a little dated.

Brekkie was superb. We booked a champagne afternoon tea that was great, I would suggest adding crisps & sausage roll or pork pie to it for a little of savory but overall it was lovely. Highly recommend it.

Perfect way to enjoy a relaxing stay in the Lakes.

Wonderful couple, lovely cosy room, beautiful garden to sit in the evening. great location - easy to get to Windermere and other neighbouring lakes by car. Breakfast also a great way to start our days before hiking Helvellyn.

Excellent short break with comfortable accommodation, engaging hosts and great breakfasts!

Our hosts Steve and Sharon did everything they could to make us feel welcome. They both have a passion for the Lake District and clearly love running their B&B and meeting new people. We had fascinating chats with them after the delicious and substantial breakfasts they served. The bedroom was spotless with a huge bed with good quality linen and a lovey view over the well kept garden. We would highly recommend School House Cottage and the delightful hosts.

There was nothing to dislike for us.
