wouldn't go back

Decor is really dated. Bed seemed old/poor quality. Flat screen tv was very small. I went down for breakfast and I was the only one there. No customers or staff, I had to chase up someone to cook breakfast that was pre booked.

Location

Prices did not increase since last year but now do not include breakfast so factor in an extra £27 means it is no longer competitive to other locations. Last year we had cereal and toast 30-40 mins late as chef did not turn up. Waitress quickly rustled some toast up for us and the owner promised to sort us out next visit. On arrival 4th May was told no replacement breakfast as it was included in the room price last year. One single flat pillow in the room, bed not even level, no light in bathroom, toilet kept flushing itself with a stuck cystern.

Exceeded expectations. Basic, but everything a hotel should be; friendly staff, good food, warm and welcoming

I arrived late after long day hiking. On the edge of a housing estate, the hotel didn’t look much! Very quiet and no one on reception. But the young female staff member was very helpful. The hotel inside was bright, clean and warm. The room was basic but perfectly comfortable and warm. I didn’t really want to go out to look for food so ate at the hotel restaurant. I was on my own but that was fine. The food exceeded my expectations! Just what I needed after long day trekking! Gammon steak followed by treacle sponge! Very happy!

There was an annoying continuous water noise outside my room like a cistern being continuously filled!

Superb

We only stayed 1 night as a stop over on route to somewhere else. Very welcoming and friendly staff. We arrived as the restaurant was closing but they were happy to provide a meal and the portion was huge and very tasty. Free car parking with plenty of space, lovely view of the town and the surrounding countryside. On the morning of leaving, the receptionist provided me with local information.

The only negative were the creaky floorboards. When the guests in the next room walked across their room, i could hear their footsteps, and it made me conscious of walking around our room and disturbing anyone.

Really friendly staff

Breakfast was good. The staff were better. Carvery was lovely, being a veggie it was the cauliflower cheese that won the show.

The noise from the kitchen fans was way too loud. Even keeping the windows shut didn’t help much. It was impossible to lay in after 6:30am!

Superb

This was my second stay here. Rooms were clean and comfortable, coffee and tea topped up every day. Lovely carvery and breakfast. Will be back again next year for the Aberdare Road Racing.

Value!

Friendly, welcoming, helpful staff. Clean, comfortable room. Good nights sleep. Quiet location. Good shower, towels. Tasty breakfast. Great value for money

Furnishings looking tired. Only one pillow per guest in room. What sounded like flowing water running through pipes above room. (Room 210)

Just to sleep in a hurry and nothing else

Very soft and small beds even for a single. Old bathroom needing refurbishment. Breakfast was weird, asked for ham didn't have, and the toast were burnt and they served anyway.

Great food, comfy rooms, lovely staff, excellent value for money

The staff were wonderful, helpful, friendly and so accommodating. I was really pleased with the food; we had dinner at the hotel and all of us had a carvery! Really great price for the stay and the food.

It was a little tricky to find, but I cannot fault anything about the hotel. The lady on reception who booked us in had been there for 33 years; she was wonderful!

Pleasant

The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. The room was clean, and we had a good night's sleep. Would return but wouldn't bother with the breakfast.

The breakfast was poor, with limited choice. Coffee was disgusting.

A good hotel to stay at for a low budget holiday

Room was comfortable. Dinner at night was OK. Choice of a carvery which was very reasonably priced. The breakfast was very good. The hotel was very good value.

Only problem encountered was that it was advertised as having clothes washing facilities. As touring motorcyclists we were going to wash our clothes whilst staying here but there were no facilities to do this.

Hotel Bessemer

Nice size good clean room, friendly staff. Hotel in good area a little hilly if you have walking issue's A good decent breakfast.

Mattress a bit hard and wasn't told breakfast finished at 8.30 on a sunday apart from that all good

The room was tired but perfectly clean and the friendly and attentive staff really made the stay.

The staff were so friendly and attentive. It was lovely chatting with them, and they really made the stay. The same staff were having to do everything, though - from reception and breakfast to cleaning the rooms and clearing up in the kitchen! The rooms were very clean. The breakfast was lovely and the Sunday dinner was AMAZING - it must have weighed a few kilograms!

Although the room itself was clean, it was dated and tired. The carpet, for example, was stained and threadbare and in need of updating. The kettle was old and chipped and again needed replacing with a newer model. There was an old-fashioned trouser press in the room but no iron. The bedding was clean and fresh, but the bed spread was old and faded. The walls were very thin, and I could hear every word the couple next door were saying. The noise of the floorboards in the next room was so loud it sounded like they were in the room, though I appreciate there's not much the hotel can do about this.

Very good

The room we stayed in was very clean and spacious, with a good view. There's even a massage bath in the room. The hotel decoration is quite lovely especially if you like vintage style. The restaurant provides cavalry and the full breakfast's good.

The floorboard is a bit creaky.

Great hotel, fantastic reception lady

Great hotel, room and bathroom were very clean. Lovely and very helpful reception lady. Breakfast was good. There was no hot water one evening it, but was fixed straight away. I would stay there again.

Canned tomatoes with English breakfast. Freshly grilled tomatoes would be much tastier

Made to feel welcome by lovely staff and fed very well.

Staff were lovely and helpful. We were made to feel very welcome. Food was amazing - fantastic carvery and great breakfast. There was plenty of variety.

The building was obviously once grand but some finer details are looking tired, mainly in the room. The room we had was over a noisy generator which did not stop until 10 pm and started promptly at 6 am. and during the night it was possible to hear every footstep of the person in the room above, none of which was conducive to a good nights sleep.
