About this cottage rental

Located in the town of Pinar, specifically in the Houses about 900 m above sea level.
To access the Jarita we do it through a rural path, because the house is barely separated about 100 m from the road in an elevated, discreet and quiet area, guaranteeing tranquility and direct contact with nature, as well as splendid ones views of the sea and the town of Las Casas, surrounded by fruit trees and almond trees, very close to the pine forest and some trails.
This little house was built with stone walls about 60 cm thick and has many details of country life during the s. XIX.

Rubén is a great host, the house is lovely. You feel like you are somewhere Remise but still have shops and restaurants in walking distance. Perfect for hiking and exploring El Hierro!

We stayed for two weeks in July and were enchanted. Ruben has made a splendid job of renovating a small farm house with thick lava walls. It is a small and cosy place, perfect for a couple, although there is also a small room that could accomodate another person and also a sofa that could serve as a third bed. Everything is very clean and we appreciated that some of the basic products we found in the cupboards (salt, oil, tea, etc) were left there for our use. The nearest house is about a hundred meters down so you won't be disturbed by human activities. But at the same time, the village is very close by and a short walk will take you to the essential services. We would not recommand the house for people with disabilities because you have to walk on an uphill rocky trail for a few dozen meters to reach this little heaven. Our favorite activities at La Jarita: star gazing and sleeping late in a very soothing silence. Our favorite activities outside of La Jarita: walking in the pine forest, driving around the island to discover rocky alcoves to snorkel, the impeccable intepretation centers and numerous walks. At first, we planned to stay for 5 days and go island hoping, but decided to stay a full two weeks for we could not imagine a more perfect setting. The highlight of our stay is the warmth of our host and is family. While he lives on the northern part of the island, he came to visit to offer advice on what to see and where to go, including local events such as traditionnal festivals. He also brought us fruits that he picked himself. We felt truly welcomed and wish that our paths will cross again. Philippe et Noémi .

Peaceful retreat , set in the hillside just above the village, ideal for walking with walks in all directions , shops nearby, car parking a short walk below house. Converted old farmhouse is charming and well suited to two or three people. Cool in the evenings so log fire was very pleasant. logs provided. Good hot water. Clean and well maintained, owner was very helpful, and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. At 350m can feel cool at night, and loses the sun around 4pm. Outside very green , tiny fields with stone walls, lots of cactus plants. very pleasant to sit outside. It can have a bit more cloud than down on the coast, but the view and vegetation made up for it. We were very pleased with our choice as this was our first visit to El Hierro and were taken aback by the kindness of the locals and the prettiness of the surroundings.

This is a delightful holiday house. I stayed for 2 weeks in December. The house is well equipped and simple but comfortable. Ruben the owner was extremely obliging - even providing chopped logs for the wood burning fire. I was doing a lot of walking and this is an excellent base. It is high up which means that it is colder than the coast - take a warmer jacket for the evenings. I would recommend this place for anyone wanting a quiet, pretty holiday house and for anyone wanting tranquility and who likes walking. I have nothing negative to say about the property or the experience at all - just be aware that it is at 3000 feet and will be significantly cooler than the coast. I hired a car for one of the weeks that I was there and walked from the Casa for the first week. I cooked for myself all the time - there are good supermarkets in El Pinar and a lovely organic butchers.

We – a family of three w. a child of 2 years - rented this charming cottage for 2 weeks over the Christmas holidays (2011/2012). The house and location is absolutely gorgeous. It is an old farm house which has been beautifully renovated. From the outside the house looks as I imagine all house on the Island did a hundred years ago (indeed the house is around 150 years old). For us it was an ideal house since its location offers so many different things to do right outside your doorstep. Among others sunbathing and reading on the very private terrace, walking around in the beautiful old terraced landscape starting just behind the house, barbecuing (at the grill) while overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, walking to the nearby bar to have your daily shot of espresso, tightening your trekking shoes and follow the official but very steep trekking route down to the beautiful beach Las Playas or visit the two wise old goats living 300 meters from the house. From the house you also have the view to the fairytale- alike pine forest that El Pinar is famous of. Inside the 1 meter thick stone walls the house is well functioning and has recently been fully renovated with great respect to its history. The house was perfect clean and the host (Ruben) is very helpful and has many good advice on what to see and do on the island.
