Honey Bear Hideaway - studio cabin in the heart of hayward!
About this cabin rental
Surrounded by trees, settled right on Lake Hayward sits this charming & cozy cabin in a little cabin community less than half a mile from downtown Hayward. Launch your canoe just steps from the cabin's entrance, bike into town for lunch, or go hiking or skiing on the nearby trails, this cabin is nestled in the perfect location! This is a studio size cabin with one queen bed, a bunk bed with two twin mattresses, bathroom, kitchenette with a mini fridge, microwave, keurig coffee, & outdoor grill. This is a cozy, perfect little cabin right in the heart of Hayward with easy access to everything you will want to do during your stay here! We take pride in doing our best to make your stay a wonderful experience whether you're planning to use the cabin as your base camp while you explore Hayward and the surrounding areas or decide to stay in, relax, and unwind. We are constantly making improvements and upgrades to make your stay that much more enjoyable. Easy access using a key code & key. We love & have lots of dogs and know how important it is to bring your pooch along on your adventure. We are pet-friendly but please let us know if you plan to bring yours, as we do charge a cleaning fee ($30 per dog for the total stay). We may have to send you a separate request for this payment. We ask that you clean up after your dog (inside the cabin & outside), and do not leave your dog unattended in the cabin unless kenneled. We provide the essentials - bath towels, shampoo/conditioner, soap, dish soap, coffee mugs, plates, utensils. We have a keurig coffee maker with coffee, sugar and creamer for you. We have a small fridge, microwave and sink. There is an outdoor grill however you will need to bring charcoal & lighter fluid. This is a small cabin community with 8 cabins in total and some common/shared spaces - there are 2 community firepits that are for you to use, picnic tables, and multiple docks. You can bring and launch your canoe or kayak right here on the water. FAQS: Q: Can we check-in early or check-out late? A: It depends. Check in is at 3pm. Ask me and we will do our best to let you know as soon as your cabin is available. We and our cleaning staff have strict protocols to follow and can't always have the cabin ready earlier than 3pm. Feel free to use the common grounds such as the firepits, docks, and shoreline beforehand but please allow our cleaning crew the space they need to properly prepare your space. Q: Is there WiFi and is it any good? A: Yes and yes! We upgraded our router in 2020. We've had many guests stay and "work from home" and students that complete their coursework from the cabin without a single complaint. Q: Do we have cable TV? A: No, not anymore. We have smart TVs so you can log in to your favorite streaming services. Just remember to log out before you leave. Q: Do we provide firewood for campfires? A: No, however you can purchase firewood at several local convenience stores and grocery stores for $5-6 per bundle. You may also see signs on the drive up to purchase firewood at various residences. There are strict regulations against transporting firewood from other areas so please don't do that. Often times previous guests will leave unused firewood behind so you might just get lucky and not need to purchase any at all. We also don't provide matches/lighters. Q: Is the water safe to drink? A: Yes! We are on the city water line so it is safe to drink and cook with. There is both hot and cold water. Q: Do I have to clean up before I check-out? A: Uh, no. That's our job! Just enjoy your stay. Leave ALL used dishes/silverware out so they can be sanitized. Don't worry about making the bed because we're replacing the linens anyway. Please just lock the door and restore the key in the key box. Q: Why is the cleaning fee so expensive? A: Although the cabin is small, it takes a while to change the linen, restock, sanitize dishes, mop, etc. We try to pay our cleaning crew a livable wage and add in the expense of laundry and common items we supply and it adds up very quickly. We don't make or attempt to make any profit off of the cleaning expense. Q: Are the other cabins grouped close together? A: Yes, the cabins are grouped closely. You can get a sense by looking through all the photos we have posted. Not all cabins on the premises are rented/rentable however. Q: Is it a contactless check-in? A: Yes, it is self check-in and check-out. You will receive a code to access the cabin key in a lockbox. Please return the key when you leave. It's that simple! Q: Can I swim in the lake? Is there a beach? A: We have a shoreline with 3 docks but the water gets deep pretty quickly off the shoreline. There are a few spots where it's a little shallower. For a true sandy beach, head to Hayward City Beach which is less than one mile from the cabin. Q: Does the cabin have good heat? A: Yes it does! We recently upgraded to mini-split heater/AC units. The heating and cooling is simply remote controlled and responds much faster than our previous heating system. Q: Where's the flat sheet on the bed? A: Keeping with the European-style theme, the bed has a duvet. We change and clean ALL linens after every stay and take great pride in our cleanliness. We also have an extra blanket stored if you need it. Q: Is there enough room to park a boat/trailer? A: Yes! The parking area is large enough for several vehicles. If you have a trailer, you can back in park in three different areas. We just ask that you not block anyone else in. Q: Do we have a boat landing? A: No, not at our location however there is a public boat launch about a half mile away. You can launch your boat there and tie it down on one of our docks! It's much less than a half mile by boat from the launch to the docks. Q: What kind of fish are in Lake Hayward? A: Musky, panfish, Bass, Northern Pike, Trout, and Walleye. Q: Do we have boat or canoe/kayak rentals? A: No, we don't however Hayward Outfitters/Hayward Water Sports does and they are less than a half mile away, right next to the boat launch. Q: Are there hiking trails nearby? A: There is a paved trail near the parking area for a brief, leisurely stroll. Otherwise check out the Hayward Chamber of Commerce site for hiking and other outdoor activities. Q: Are there ATV/Snowmobile trails close by? A: Yes. Trail access is just across the street from the parking area. You can find trail maps on the Hayward Lakes site or Sawyer County Alliance site. Q: Are there any good places to eat? A: Of course! We can't give recommendations but suggest you check out the Hayward Chamber of Commerce site for local dining options. If you have any other questions, I'd be glad to answer them!

I rented the cabin for a week to get some solo time away from friends, family, job, and miscellaneous worries- this was exactly what I needed and wanted. I've taken this type of trip every winter for a few years now (just me, yarn, my spinning wheel, and a whole lot of peace and quiet), and this is by far the best place I've stayed. I'll absolutely be booking it for my yearly trip next winter!

Nice but not perfect. We removed our shoes upon entering but noticed sand was almost unavoidable. This was pain when heading to bed. Also the main bed did not have pillows to use, not sure where they were but no luck. We also had no kitchen wash cloths. We had to make a trip to the local Walmart. Other than those few items, it was cozy.

Very cozy cabin, accurately portayed in the description. Cute and quiet location, very close to other small cabins but while we were there we didn't run into anyone else. Perfect location for exploring the little town during the day.
Host was kind and understanding, quick to respond. Definitely recommend for a little get away.

We enjoyed the vicinity to Hayward. Cabin was big enough to hold both my husband and myself, our 11 month old and yellow lab. Our dog loved the little community aspect and all the other pets in the area as well as the lake access. We will definitely consider staying here again.

My hubby & I stayed for 1 night during our trip. We arrived after dark. Cabin was easy to find. Super inviting lighted pathway to our cabin. The decor was adorable & the cabin was super clean. Had everything we needed & bed was very comfy. We walked a few blocks to a supermarket for a few groceries. Great location. Wish we would have had more time to spend there. Highly recommed & would definitely stay again.

The cabin was beautifully decorated and clean. The shower had lots of mold and needs some work. Also the sinks drained very slowly. Other than that it was a great place. The parking was perfect and it was easy to load and unload the car, important for us seniors. We would definitely consider returning for another stay.

My fiancé and I had a really relaxing stay at the Honey Bear Hideaway cabin. Very clean, nice patio, and everything we needed was within close proximity to Hayward. The Community campfire was also a hit!

Very nice little cabin, easy location. Loved the indoor / outdoor lights.

The bathroom was a bit tiny for 4 people. Glad it was just the two of us. Would have like to have information on places to launch our boat or other things to do in the area Cabin was neat and tidy Would consider staying there again, though I would not bring my dog along. The bed was too soft for me. Would have liked a under the cabinette light by the sink. Hard to see the sock to plug in coffee maker. Did enjoy the deck to sit on at night.

Honey Bear Hideaway was seriously the cutest and quaint little cabin! The little walkway through the cluster of cabins is so idyllic and was the aesthetic I was looking for to wow my wife and give our kids a cozy and fun time in a new place. We were so grateful for how impressively clean the floor was specifically. Our infant daughter is crawling and was so relieving to feel like we could let her roam a bit and not have to feel like it was a hazard. My son loved having the bunk beds and now I have to build him one 😆Hayward itself was so fun and had lots to do and explore. The owner responded quickly in all my interactions with him and was warm and appreciative! Such an amazing time had by all of us, def recommend staying here!!

Cozy clean cabin, great location, 5 minute walk to Main Street but also nestled in a pine forest on the water. We’ll be back.

Cabin was clean and super cute. Coffee pot could use a good cleaning, but that’s the only complaint I had.

Enjoyed the stay. The property could use better trailer parking. Backing my boat trailer in each night was a little bit of a challenge.

We had a great time, very clean cabin and great location. Nice walking path to walk our puppy right next to the cabin. Close to town that you could walk. Great experience!

When I made reservations, I wasn’t fully sure this was the same place as the old Mallard’s Landing. I was thrilled when I found out it was! I absolutely love this place and was so sad when Mallard’s Landing was sold. Thank you so much Matthew for making your cabin a VRBO. Thank you also for allowing dogs. Our pup loved it there. We couldn’t have had our mini vacation had we not been able to take our baby!
The cabin is adorable, and the decorations are so cute! The lights all around the resort give it a festive and fun environment. We bought wood in town and had a little bonfire in front of the cabin my sister and brother in law had rented (with the hanging chairs).
Anyway, we had a great time and will be back as often as possible! A++++

We loved the little cabin. Our only issue was we were not smart enough to figure out your heating system until our second day. That was on us not you. If your staying in the winter, turn your heat up! We had it set at 78 to keep the cabin comfortable. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. The shower was hot and a pleasant surprise. We give a 10 out of 10 and will recommend it as a nice little getaway.

We needed a convenient spot for overnight stay before my husband’s bike race in Cable. This was great location with easy access to Hayward food. It had every amenity we needed and was very organized and thoughtfully done. This cabin was very quiet location. We will likely stay here again!

Very nice place to stay for a very cold night in January

The cabin was in a beautiful wooded area. It felt secluded and was quiet and peaceful. This cabin was cute and woodsy. The host provided a few snacks, candies, coffee, a few basic dishes, which were all appreciated. Extra blankets and a space heater were available and were used, as it was cold during our visit. Internet connection worked well. We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Will likely rebook if the need to be in the area arises again.

I have stayed at these cute little cabins in the past! Love them! Decorated like a comfy cabin would be with everything needed for a short stay, on the lake and private, even dog friendly! I highly recommend renting from Matt!

We were following the fall colors through Wisconsin on our way to drive the Lake Superior Circle Tour. We stayed just one night in this cozy cabin nestled in the trees. Very pleasant, convenient location.

Great spot for a quick weekend stay , place was clean and had everything the host said it would have. Check in was simple and the property around the cabin was quiet but close to downtown Hayward. Would stay again!

We have a 6yo and 1yo and thought “glamping” was better suited for our family than camping. This cabin was the perfect space and covered all our needs. There was just enough space for everyone and we enjoyed using the deck and outside table for our picnic lunches. Our 6yo is already asking when we can come back again! Thank you.

Short stay in the honey bear cabin.
We stayed at honey bear cabin in Hayward while we were visiting family. It was perfect for what we needed. Had a bathroom with shower, bunk beds, queen size bed that was super comfy, table, microwave, fridge, flatscreen with swivel option, coffee maker and some dishes to use. We walked to the lake several times and enjoyed the serenity with the large trees. Only regret is we didn’t stay long enough to use fire pit and other fun options provided. We will definitely stay here again when visiting our family.
Thank you for the fun cabin experience.

Cabin was just like the pictures showed! Kids enjoyed the bunk beds and there was a nice front porch where we could grill and eat outside! Loved all of the trees and feeling of being in the woods, but there was a decent amount of highway traffic. Right across the road from mini golf, rock climbing, and go carts, kept the kids entertained and reasonably priced!
