About this house rental
Our house is right off I-235 just minutes from downtown, great restaurants, family-friendly activities, and nightlife. You’ll love our place because of the adorable kitchen, unique dining room, cozy feel, and vintage detail. It's located in a very friendly neighborhood with Callanan playground and running track right across the street. The house is perfect for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families with kids, big groups, and four legged friends. There is a $50 fee per dog.
You will love the unique details our home has to offer. Touches of reclaimed wood accent many of the walls. The historic wooden doors make each room more cozy. The dining room has a custom shiny tin ceiling with beautiful light fixtures illuminating a stunning solid wood dining table that seats eight people; perfect for dinner parties. An exposed brick chimney is seen in the kitchen as well as the third bedroom for a modern twist on a rustic feel. There is a spacious front porch which is a great place to spend the afternoons on the gorgeous days Iowa brings. The living room is extremely comfortable with plush sofas and a reading nook.
We love dogs and are happy to host your friendly, house-trained pets! There is a $50 fee per dog. Dogs must have clean paws before entering the home and must be kept off ALL furniture. Hair and drool left behind should be at an absolute minimum. Thank you for understanding.
Our house is walking distance to the Ingersoll Avenue district which is rich with historic character, independent businesses, a vibrant dining scene and family-oriented offerings. There are bikes available for rent right on Ingersoll and MLK (just a few blocks from the house) which, in our opinion, is the best way to tour Des Moines! Most downtown streets have a designated bike lane and you can return the bikes to any of the rental locations around the Downtown Des Moines Area.
Head a bit further South and you will find the Des Moines Art Center. This is a wonderful place to see some incredible works of art and have a great lunch with impeccable scenery. Right behind the Des Moines Art Center is both Greenwood and Ashworth Parks. An area perfect for enjoying the great outdoors as well as an access point to one of Des Moines' many bike trails.
Bike or take a short drive over to the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park which features artwork by 22 of the world's most celebrated artists. The pedestrian friendly 4.4 acre park is located in the heart of downtown Des Moines. There is plenty of green space to relax or walk around and enjoy the art.
A short 5 minute drive from the house will get you to the Court Avenue District. From baseball to Broadway, the Court District is also the heart of Des Moines’ downtown activity base. This area proudly hosts the Downtown Farmers' Market, one of the country's largest outdoor markets enticing throngs of weekend shoppers, street entertainers and musicians every Saturday morning 7AM-Noon from May through October. The Civic Center of Greater Des Moines serves as an outstanding performing arts center. Principal Park, one of the nation’s most breathtaking minor league ballparks and home to the Iowa Cubs (AAA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs) offers major league fun, and the new $62 million Science Center of Iowa and Blank IMAX Dome Theater engages and inspires visitors of all ages.
Just a bit further East you will find yourself in the Historic East Village. This is Des Moines’ most vibrant and diverse district, boasting many of the finest local shopping, dining, nightlife and commerce in Iowa. The East Village encompasses some of Iowa’s most significant buildings, including the State Capitol and numerous buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.

The home was comfortable and just as pictured. We really enjoyed our stay! The combination of the slow internet and the older version of the Fire TV stick made watching TV somewhat difficult, but it was doable.

The location of the home was perfect considering it was close to Drake University. Prior to arriving we were notified the refrigerator was only working on the lower shelves, and the same for the freezer and it couldn't be looked at until Monday. This wasnt great news considering we were in town for a track meet where refrigerating numerous items and having ice bags are important. The host putting a mini fridge in for the weekend would had been helpful.
The home itself was sapcious and lots of linens were provided. We did have troubles connecting to the WIFI but finally realized the password listed in the vrbo was different than what was listed in the home notes. Updating what is sent out would be helpful. We do have a tendency to check all doors when visiting a home. One of the doors in the small bedroom didnt have anything in the hinge and it almost fell on me. We didnt mind the noise from the busy street but the noise from the stairs is loud and you will disturb anyone sleeping trying to creep up or down them at night will disturb everyone in the house.

The house was great! Like others have said, the kitchen could use some additional tools but other than that, no complaints! Comfortable beds, cute charm. We appreciated that the AC was on when we arrived and the house was cool. Overall it was a great stay!

This is a beautiful craftsman style home.
The listing doesn’t make clear the sleeping arrangements, but there are 3 bedrooms upstairs with a king, queen/double, and a twin. There is also a queen/double in the basement. There is a full bath on the second floor and the basement and a half bath on the main floor. The kitchen and laundry are well stocked. The living room has a sofa, love seat, and easy chair along with a TV (includes cable).
The home is on a busy street, which you can hear from the master bedroom. The upstairs bedrooms are bright and cheery but they are hard to darken for sleeping.
We were a group of four adults and two children and this home was perfect for our visit, especially since there is a playground across the street.

Perfect place for family to get ready and relax In between events for our wedding weekend. Master bedroom was very spacious. Enjoyed the house a lot. Easy and close to the downtown locations we needed. We were aware of the busy road in front. Parking three different cars was sometimes tricky with moving in and out. In general, no complaints. Great value for the space. Gathered at the big table a lot. Thank you!

Quick find off the interstate. Road is busy but that’s expected with it being right off the interstate. Lovely home with plenty of room!l Sauna was a hit! Lots of towels to use and having the ability to use the washer and dryer was nice!
Had some minor wifi issues with the tv, but communication with host was great! Got it figured out. If you plan to cook instead of eating out, the kitchen does need some additional utensils and cookware.

The house is large enough for me & my granddaughters. Upstairs bathtub was clogged. Needs more dishes in kitchen, mixing bowls, small skillet, large pot, etc. Something to put leftovers in.

Nicely updated house
This home was perfect for my family while attending family reunion activities in the area.
It's super clean and the hosts are very thoughtful about providing soaps for everything like laundry, kitchen and bath. That's very helpful when traveling. The beds were comfortable. Although, the bedroom next to the road gets quite a bit of road noise. It's on a busy street. I enjoyed using some of the cookbooks in the kitchen to prepare a couple of new to us meals. We used the garage one night when a hailstorm was threatening. That was a relief to have a place to protect our vehicles.
It's an older home with lots of character that is nicely updated and very amenable.

Pigtails Bike Ride
Me and 4 friends stayed at this cute little VRBO a couple nights to do the Saturday bike ride on the High Tressle trail. This place was perfect for us. Easy to find, close to the trail and bars / restaurants. The 5 of us were able to sleep in the 3 bedrooms upstairs, sharing queen / double beds and one twin size. There is another full size in basement.

Old house with character
I would guess this house is 100 years old and it’s amazing in every way. Plenty of room, comfortable furniture, nice size kitchen. Garage available. Loved the historic feel of the house. Beautiful hard wood floors. Very clean. Super easy access to the freeway.
