About this house rental
Nestled in the quiet, historic district of Bastrop, Texas, only thirty miles from Austin, we welcome you to stay at “Yerba at Bastrop:” a beautiful, pre-civil war, two-story historic home listed in the National Register of Historic Places and a designated Texas Historic Landmark. Surrounded by lovely organic gardens, the house boasts natural wooden floors throughout and large airy windows in each room, overlooking the plants and trees below. Only a 5-7 minute walk away, the town center awaits you - a vivacious scene of antique stores, live music, restaurants, and a vinery—as do the walking trails, fishing, and other water sports of the splendid Colorado River. Bastrop State Park is just over two miles away and known for its Lost Pines forest, hiking, biking, and outdoor swimming.
With a fireplace on both floors, the upstairs has three inviting, serene bedrooms and two recently updated baths (one with a clawfoot tub and a view of treetops and sky and the other with a waterfall shower). You can enjoy your coffee and breakfast in the morning or drinks and hors d'oeuvres in the evening on the breezy, upstairs (and screened-in!) sitting porch with views of the sky, birds and the garden’s enormous bay trees. Downstairs, the dining room, living room and parlor are welcoming communal spaces, while the kitchen is a chef’s dream with cast iron pots and cooking ware collected over the years by Catine Perkins, a noted organic gardener, cook and artist. Coffee and tea are ready to be made, and if you wish to cook, you can check out the chicken coop in the back for eggs, pick out fresh herbs in the garden, and use whatever condiments are available in the kitchen. There are plentiful places to shop for groceries nearby.
This beautiful and spacious home is one of the oldest in Bastrop and was purchased by Robert and Catine Perkins in 1959. Catine was a strong proponent of historical preservation, organic gardening and preventive medicine. People would come from miles around to see her yard filled with irises, day lilies, poppies, antique roses, and culinary herbs. An extraordinary cook, she held herb classes for the young staff at Whole Foods when it first opened In Austin, as well as supplying herbs to some of the top local Austin restaurants at the time. The Perkins family is upholding their parents’ tradition and believes the peaceful charm and unique healing attributes of the property will give you a one-of-a-kind, fulfilling stay in this striking part of Texas
*Note: This property features security cameras with video recording in progress. One is mounted outside near the back gate as guests come onto the property, a second camera outside the front door facing outward and a third camera inside the screened in porch facing the 2 back doors toward the backyard, with a view to the French door entrance as well.
**The health and safety of our guests is paramount. Cleanliness is always our top priority. We offer a 24-hour guest service contact number for emergencies and messages will be answered promptly. Arrive after 4:00 pm when it is convenient for you for an easy and contactless check-in.

Although the property could use some basic maintenance, it was clean and we appreciated its history. The fourth bed, which is why we chose the property, was a daybed with no real mattress or bedding. The location was great and we walked downtown to eat and shop.

My two sisters and I plan a yearly getaway in the spring to celebrate our birthdays and just connect. This year we chose Bastrop as they were having a large market event in the convention center.
This is a lovely home and we had a wonderful weekend. It’s close to everything downtown where we spent most of our time. Had everything we needed and it was very comfortable. Definitely recommend this beautiful historic home if you’re planning a trip to Bastrop!

Our group of friends had a great time in Bastrop and the house really helped make that happen. We were able to easily walk to downtown Bastrop to eat and shop the cute little stores. There was a huge table in the dining room that we played games at every night and the bedrooms were all clustered together upstairs making it feel like a cozy slumber party.

We had a great time… the house is very spacious with so much history. We really enjoyed our stay.

We came to Bastrop for the F1 race in Austin. Stayed at the main house (there is a cottage as well which we stayer at least time). It was very spatious and convenient to a nice downtown area. The house is 'historical' but does the job. It's well maintained, has a nice screened balcony area, and we had ample room.

A novel, historic home. Great beds, quiet location, and great for relaxing and thinking.

Historic home full of antiques. Nice change from your typical modern hotel or vrbo. LOVE the chickens!

Charming old house, lots of space. Great location.
Great for families but difficult with group of adults. We were 4 adults with 1 infant. It’s great if you’re gonna be gone and eat out most of time. living room has daybed, not real sofa and 2 chairs. Master BR has claw tub so ended up 4 adults sharing 1 tiny bathroom. Twin bed is not functional, mattress is so bad- we planned on that for 1 adult sleeping. Porches are amazing and plenty of space to relax. Kitchen is ok-Old Oven needs replacing or repair. Frustrating when trying to cook. Freezer was full upon arrival of owners food. It’s a lovely property, just expect that it’s really an old home you’re borrowing and not a typical rental.

The property is great. Close to downtown Bastrop and easy access to the highway. The house has so many things to explore and full of history. Loved reading the old cookbooks and exploring the gardens.

Stayed here with my mom and we loved it! The house has a lot of antique looking furniture and decorations which was really cool! We got fresh eggs every day and used some of the herbs from the garden as well! The screened in porches were really nice you relax on. The stairs are very short and steep so watch out for those, I slipped the first day! Comfortable beds and the AC worked great!

We rented the Yerba at Bastrop to have a central location to be able to sit with extended family and friends from all of Bastrop.
We have his and hers and hers and not everyone wants to be visiting with each other. Renting a home makes for seamless visiting.
The house is not just beautiful, but extremely cozy. Although we didn't cook this trip, it has a beautiful kitchen with all the amenities necessary to do so. The dining room is beautiful and we had a lovely breakfast with my mother on our last morning.
If the Yerba is available when we come back I would definitely request to rent again.

Beautiful Historic Home
We enjoyed everything about this property. The many antiques, the art, the porches, garden, chicken coop all made for a wonderful experience. The home is only a short walk to Fisherman's Park and the historic downtown area. Beds are comfy, cold ac, and 3 bathrooms (1 downstairs, 2 up) Bedrooms are spaced out upstairs by a wonderful hallway and library. Love Bastrop and the First Friday events. Hope to return soon.

Funky old home
We had a really nice time at Yerba. We decided it felt kind of like staying at a museum and the place is full of antiques. Definitely unique in it's own right! Loved the upstairs screened in porch. We were fortunate to have a wonderful breeze the few evenings we were there, and really enjoyed spending time up there. The chickens were a big hit with the kids. And the beautiful, lush yard was a very special treat for the gardeners in our group.

A Pleasant and Unique Old Home
This wonderful old home is loaded with charm and character. The rooms have been decorated with detail and there is a comfortable feeling throughout. Our stay was only for two nights which was unfortunately much too short. Thank you for a unique experience of Bastrop the way it once was.

We loved our stay. Not only is the house itself beautiful and comfortable, we were pleasantly surprised that it is full of gorgeous antiques and curiosities! It felt like a step back in time. You could spend hours just in the kitchen looking at all of the interesting trinkets and utensils. We'd love to visit again in the spring when the garden is blooming.
The location is ideal--just a short walk to Main Street and the river park!

This is a beautiful historic home in the middle of a quiet, walkable neighborhood. In a word, perfect. We really enjoyed our stay around the holidays. The interior is filled with interesting bits of Americana around every corner. We also loved the yard and all of the interesting plants. It's very close to downtown, Fisherman's Park and Tracy's General Store -- get there early for breakfast tacos! Thanks for the great stay!

A Great charming old house in Bastrop.

Built in 1832 and saturated with history, this is an incredible home to experience and stay. The beds are comfy. Rooms are large and bathrooms gorgeous. The kitchen is purposefully antiquated while also allowing modern coffee maker, microwave and fridge. Catine’s artwork and sculptures flatter the homes yard and walls... but the highlight is the garden. My daughter floated out of the car and exclaimed, “it’s the Secret Garden”. She proceeded to eat the pears and persimmons and pluck fresh basil, thyme, lavender, bell peppers... before heading to gather a couple eggs. Ten minute walk to park/ downtown. The location and history are ideal.

Unique historic property close to downtown
This was a very fun property. The historic home had many antiques and interesting kitchen items. It was also a short walk to downtown which made exploring the area very easy.

a nice location close to downtown. A/C downstairs was working well but A/C upstairs was not working at all for the entire stay (3 days). I called every day to have it fixed but no vail. I could not understand how the host left the house for guests with most likely knowing that A/C upstairs is not functioning properly. Kitchen utensils were not as clean as I expected.
