About this house rental
The Serenity House was built on 2 acres in the heart of the Rainforest, very privately situated far from the noise of the city but close to some of the best attractions and restaurants El Castillo has to offer. The gorgeous infinity edge swimming pool is filled with fresh spring water, and is perfect to refresh while you listen to the Howlers Monkeys, watch the Toucans, Hummingbirds and 20 other species of birds that surround the house. At Serenity create memories that you will treasure forever.
The house is big and spacious with beautiful decors from local artists and unique indigenous statues located around the property.
The combination of really high ceilings and the location on the edge of a hill with constant breeze makes for no need of Air Conditioning in the house. Plus all of the rooms have ceiling fans and the sliding doors & windows are equipped with screens so you can perfectly leave them open to let the breeze in without worrying about the insects coming in the house. All 3 bedrooms have private bathrooms to give your group the privacy they want.
In our fully equipped kitchen, you can delight your family with a energizing breakfast to begin the day or with a delicious dinner to close a memorable day of exploring the rain forest. After dinner sit around and share memories in our comfortable living room with all reclinable leather couches and sofas.
- THINGS TO DO: There are lots of tours to keep you entertained for days, Volcano hikes, Zip Lines, Hanging Bridges, ATV tours, Kayak and Paddle-board tours, Rainforest and Waterfall hikes, Horseback riding, Hot Springs, Wildlife watching tours and more. All of these are less than half an hour away from the house.
Our concierge is always available at our new and modern Welcome Center to help you book tours, find the best restaurants, book a massage and get the most out of your time in the area.
-LOCATION: El Castillo is approx. 3 hours (150km) from both international airports, either in the capital of San Jose, or on the northern pacific coast in Liberia. La Fortuna, which is a small city that offers amenities such as grocery, banking, post office, restaurants, hot springs, excursions and much more, is only 30 minutes away.
- GETTING AROUND: You will want a 4WD vehicle. The last drive up to the house is a road made of gravel and rocks. When it rains there are potholes. You will be a lot happier with a 4WD here and in most areas of Costa Rica. While there are a couple of things to see and one restaurant within walking distance of the house, there are many activities that require a 10 to 45 minute drive. You will not be happy waiting for a cab to arrive either coming of going.

Wonderful property

This was our first visit to Costa Rica. The home and views were as good if not better than described. The bird life and comforts of this home all made for beautiful memories. Hope to visit Costa Rica again and would hope to enjoy it from this home again.

We had a wonderful stay! It is a bit of a drive to get into town of La Fortuna but 100% worth it.

The photos do not do the house justice. On arrival the house was clean and had all of the necessary kitchen and bathroom essentials. Each room had an individual bathroom with shower that had good pressure. The view of the arenal volcano was breath taking and the pool was a perfect way to stay cool down in the heat. Disclaimer the pool structure is made of a cement type of material and we did get some scrapes, but nothing too bad. Also, there is no jacuzzi it is simply a “water feature”. In addition, there are lots of insects surrounding the property and they do tend to go in the house but we expected it and we had no real issues. One thing I wish the house provided would be some type of curtain in the master bedroom. The sunrise would light up the room and wake us up very early and at night it was pitch black outside and creepy at first especially with all the noise outdoors. Overall, we would definitely stay here on our next visit to Costa Rica!

Worth the trek up a bit up a drive for gorgeous views and tons of birds. Pictures don't do it justice.

Loved the location, views, and El Patio being so close. House was perfect for our family.
4.8
My wife and two adult children stayed here for a week. Everything was as advertised, especially the need of a four wheel drive getting to the place. A lot of room in the house and beautiful views. The large porch was very relaxing for morning coffee or evening cocktails. Would definitely stay again.

What a special place to stay. The view of Arenal is amazing and there are so many birds you can watch all day and see a dozen or more species. Sit on the back deck and watch the hummingbirds…..and there are lots of them.
House was very nice, beds are comfy, has all the essential kitchen supplies and the water is potable. The Master has no blinds so be prepared but there is no one to look in so no worries. Note, there are no closets or dressers so you will be living out of your suitcase.
As many others have pointed out the drive to the place is more than a little interesting. For sure have a 4WD vehicle, which you need anyway for some of the things to do in the area.
There is a restaurant up the hill that is very good and reasonable. We got in late due to a wreck and showed up to eat 20 minutes before they closed. They could not have been nicer and the food was tasty. There was also a group of women doing karioki upstairs which was entertaining.

This house was perfect. Incredible views. Spotless. Tons of space and fancy furniture. We loved going to the local water parks.
4.8
This property is wonderful. Just the other side of the mountain from la Fortuna and a long drive up a mountain but well worth it. There are lots of things to do and places to eat right near the property and the wildlife you can see out your door is incredible.
4.8
A stunning location with a comfortable and well-equipped home. Morning coffee on the patio to watch the toucans along with other birds and the amazing views of the Arenal Volcano made for the best start to each day. There are lots of activities in the area and great places to eat, especially the Ventanita Cafe and the Phoenix. Just make sure you have a four-wheel vehicle to get to and from the house when you leave the main road...it's a must have. We highly recommend Serenity!

Excellent location .
Great restaurant close by

Absolutely the best view I've ever had at any of the VRBO's we have stayed in. Make sure you rent a 4x4 to make it to the house but once their it is amazing. It was an easy check in and out. The house is clean and simple but has everything you need.

Serenity House is exactly what is described and all the photos are accurate. The views from the porch are amazing and the wildlife is everywhere. We saw monkeys, toucans, hummingbirds and countless more birds. The nighttime insects are abundant though so be prepared for that. The pool stopped working 2x in our time there and would randomly turn back on, it wasn’t too big of a deal because it was too cold for us to use. The view from the pool is lovely though.
As for location…it is VERY remote. The drive up the mountain is very rough and you definitely need 4x4. It was an adventure for sure. We had dinner at The Phoenix our first night and it was perfect. El Patio at the bottom of the road also has outstanding food.
Overall, we loved the house and location. Just be prepared for rough roads and bugs and spiders in the house. It is a jungle!
4.8
Wonderful house at a great price. It is as described, so be prepared to be a little remote. The local town is wonderful with a great fruit and retable stand, bakery, and restaurants. Each morning we would adventure out for an activity (such as hanging bridges and ziplines). It took about 35 minutes to get to the different destinations.
The view from the house is wonderful and as other reviews mention, the wildlife is present!
Our only hiccup was with the couple of power outages we had to figure out how to manual open the gate. It was simple enough todo, but did cause a moments pause.
4.8
This house was cozy and pictures do not do it justice. We can't wait to come back!

Loved this place! The back yard was amazing. The views were amazing of the volcano. The pool to cool off in was awesome. The birds were so fun to watch- we saw toucans, hummingbirds and yellow chest birds. The Pheonix restaurant just down the road was definitely one of our favorite places to eat- went there both nights. Really close to Sky Adventures for zip lining. You need a car that can handle a rocky road to get here- it's a fun drive up and down. Property manager wonderful- helped us reserve zip lining and recommended restaurants. La Street Bistro in downtown Fortuna was really good too.
Highly recommend this place!

As indicated by the photos & description everything matched. We had an exceptional experience staying here from the first breath taking view of Volcan de Arenal upon waking to dipping our toes in the pool during a hot afternoon. As recommended having a 4x4 to get up the steep gravel road is more comfortable. Be mindful of the black entry gate as it is slow to open & close.

We LOVED staying at Serenity!!! We had everything we needed, plus incredible views and wildlife. I’d definitely stay there again!
4.8
My family and I loved this home! It was absolutely stunning and the view was incredible. It looked just like the pictures. It was located in a great community with some local restaurant options that were very tasty. The property manager was very helpful and answered all questions we had. There were many activities nearby that we could do and the area was quite. The only area of improvement would have been more towels for the pool and some fans as it did get a little hot without AC. Other than that it was perfect! We would recommend it to anyone and would definitely go back.

We enjoyed our stay at Serenity home. The name of the house says it all. The views from the house are absolutely gorgeous. The size was perfect for our family of six. The air was cool up on the mountain so we didn’t miss having an AC. We found the home to be very relaxing. The beds were comfortable, and we loved hanging out on the patio. The home is designed with lots of sliding glass doors which open up to a patio that spans back and side of house. The view of the volcano was amazing. We also loved seeing the many hummingbirds that would visit the flowering shrubs of the house. We liked the quiet location of the house. La Fortuna was so congested when we visited (long Easter weekend), and it was nice to stay at a place away from the crowds.

This home is lovely. The volcano views and bird watching each morning set the tone for our daily adventures. Communication with our host was spot on. House location would be challenging without a 4wheel drive vehicle… thank you for highly recommending that. Nestled high in the rain forest yet a beautiful drive each day to our hiking/swimming/ touring choices, the house served as a wonderful sanctuary after full days of adventure. Could not have asked for a better 1st experience on Costa Rica. Can’t wait to return.
Pura Vita!

Amazing property, well kept, and gorgeous views. If you get lucky enough you can get a clear view of the volcano (it’s probably the best you can get in the area). The pool is great, however it’s not a hot tub in the photo, it’s a water feature. The drive up to the property is very bumpy and uphill, we didn’t have a 4x4 so it was a little more difficult but we still made it up fine. All in all, a great stay and a beautiful property with a gorgeous view!

The host, Augustin was wonderful. He was professional and extremely helpful and deserves a 5 star review.
Great location with a swiming pool & a wonderful view of the volcano, specially from the porch. But the house is old and definitely needs upgrades in the following area:
-Need new kitchen appliances/utensils/dishes. No dish washer
-replace torn/beat up couches
-Need curtains in the master bedroom
-Need new bed sheets/covers
-The house is not well sealed therefore there were a lot of small bugs, specially in the bathrooms
-There was NO TV in any of the rooms
-There is a tall tree that blocks the view of the volcano from the master bed room
-There was no chest/draws/wardrobe for clothing
-There were only a few old/cheap wire hangers

We had a wonderful time and loved the views and the house/accommodations. The staff from check in to housekeeping was outstanding. We just wish the pool was warmer.
4.8
We didn’t want to leave the property; it was beautiful! El Castillo is a little far from the main tourist attractions in the area (La Fortuna waterfall etc), but staying at this location was well worth it! We loved having this location for our morning and evenings after a jam packed day of activities.
4.8
This house was absolutely amazing. The view was unparalleled--the most amazing birds seem to be residences of the property! The home was very well-equipped with plenty of towels, kitchen items, and very comfortable living room furniture and porch furniture. I would love to stay here again! The local host, Agustin, gave us restaurant recommendations, market recommendations, and even medical doctor/hospital recommendations when we were afraid we needed that! I am still dreaming about this house!
4.8
We had such a nice stay at this beautiful home. The view of the volcano and lake over the pool was just mesmerizing. The home was clean and comfortable and full of beautiful art work. It is up a steep hill, but that is what gets you the view. We would gladly stay here again!
4.8
We had a wonderful stay - woke up in the morning to birdsong and enjoyed watching the hummingbirds. The house is open and spacious with many dramatic touches. The patio has a stupendous view of the valley and Arenal volcano. We spent one memorable afternoon watching the different views of the volcano as the clouds and sun moved through. The Phoenix restaurant is minutes away and the food was delicious. The pizza was a bit heavy but all other dishes were healthy and flavorful. Only drawback to the property is the steep road to the property but this also guarantees beautiful high views and privacy. Check in is easy and the property manager provided excellent information. We booked a skydiving trip through Mondo Adventure in La Fortuna, Professional organization and we felt safe and the 12 different zip lines satisfied us all, even 2 teenagers.
4.8
We’re a family of six who lived here for several days. The place is big enough for all of us with open floor plan, high ceilings, modern kitchen, and multiple glass doors opened up for great view of the volcano mountain and the lake. The swimming pool and garden were very secluded.
The only improvement I would suggest to make is to have the high-end bedroom furnitures/bed liens/deco.
Overall this is a great place to stay, and definitely would recommend friends to come to this serenity place.
4.8
The view is absolutely spectacular obviously. We had no problem with check in or out. We ate 3-4 meals at the phoenix restaurant down the road. It’s great. Cookie is a local good dog who will come hang out. Some things to note: you are a 45 minute drive from fortuna. Water warm but not hot. Bring a sleep mask for the big bedroom, no curtains. What looks like a hot tub is not actually a hot tub. All that being said, we loved everything. The place was spotless, the beds were comfy, and everyone we met was super friendly.
4.8
The house, view, and location were beyond expectations. Kind of had to pinch yourself each morning waking up to make sure it was real life and so happy we chose this property for our honeymoon. Also very helpful were the employees at the welcome center in town who provided recommendations and helped with bookings. Great pizza at Howlers and certainly grab some drinks / food down the road at the Phoenix.
4.8
We loved this house! So clean. The first day we saw Toucan's in the trees and hummingbirds everyday. Loved the porch that overlooked the volcano and lake. Thank you for the binoculars, we used them everyday! I wished the kitchen had a better supply of cookware. Loved the location, but be prepared to be remote! Thank you for the four wheel drive recommendation. Would absolutely stay here again!

This place was amazing!
We absolutely loved our time at Serenity house. It has one of the best views I have ever seen. The house is beautiful and had enough kitchen stuff for us to cook breakfast ebery morning. Company managing the house helped us to set up activities while we were there which was amazing! Overall a wonderful experience. We will be back for sure!

Great, roomy home, comfy beds, nice showers and the most stellar view.
Dinner with chef Johnny Paniagua and his mixologist partner Antonio in the house put this experience over the top!
Thanks Agustín for the great communication.

This property is amazing! Beautiful home with panoramic windows throughout overlooking the jungle, volcano and the lake. Heard howlers, saw toucans. Secluded but can walk to an awesome little restaurant called Phoenix for 3 meals a day, run by a fantastic little family that we quickly made friends with. Great hiking trails, hot springs, outdoor adventures all very close by. We did the Bali hot springs and water fall repelling. Both a lot of fun!
The pool at the house is great although a couple degrees warmer would be perfect. Wifi is sketchy. Property managers were super responsive and helpful. Steep dirt road up to the house (if you’re not ready for steep dirt roads, you’re not ready for CR) but easy enough with AWD. 4WD would be a bonus.
We will definitely be back. This place is amazing! Highly recommend you stay here for some of the best pura vida CR has to offer.
