Welcome to The Cedar House, located in Otter Rock! This gorgeous, oceanfront property boasts amazing ocean views with two stories, four bedrooms and two baths and room for up to Six guests! You can even bring your favorite four legged pup with you! Sitting on an acre of land, you and your family will feel like the only people for miles around! Park the car, grab your bags, and head inside!
Upon entering the home via the wood deck, you'll find yourself in a cozy room featuring the living room, dining room, and kitchen. A couch sits facing the kitchen area, while a large flat screen TV sits nearby. Cozy up with your loved ones and enjoy a movie together while dinner cooks! The dining room table can seat all of your guests, or you can enjoy a quick bowl of cereal or some morning coffee at the kitchen counter. You'll be able to make anything you like during your stay at Gulls Nest. The kitchen offers guests a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and oven/stovetop. Please note that this home does not have a dishwasher.
Down the hallway, you'll find the first two bedrooms and their shared bathroom. The bathroom is complete with a shower/tub combo. Both rooms come with queen beds and TVs, so feel free to enjoy a late night show before drifting to sleep!
Head back to the living room and head upstairs to find the two additional bedrooms. The first room comes with a twin and full bed, perfect for any children in your group, while the second offers guests a king bed. This place was dirty. Piles of dog hair and cobwebs in the corners upstairs. Closets are creepy and furniture in front of them which adds to the creepiness. Like why are they blocked? Also most are off hinges. Beds and pillows are super uncomfortable. I tried to just enjoy my stay and deal with trying to get some of our money back later because I didn’t want to spend my trip complaining but don’t do that either. You have to be ON SITE to get any communication apparently. Beach access is down the road which wasn’t bad but the house just ugh. We will not book with this host anymore. Also for the record I complained first about the house while I was there and never got an answer. I shouldn’t have to spend a ton of time trying to call someone when I’m on my trip!!!! I also took photos of the pieced together walls and flooring and dirt oh and check your “pillow” for termites before you go to sleep. Ewwwwwww!!!

I’m not sure why people have left such scathing reviews on this place, they must’ve fixed the sewage issue becuase it only smelled a little musty, which is to be expected in an old unique coastal house such as this. The walk down to the beach was totally do-able as long ans you anre anble-bodied and the views and breeze off the back patio were magical!

My wife and I recently stayed. The views were great and the house was in a very quiet and peaceful setting. Very convenient to both Depoe Bay and Newport.
The house was older but the kitchen was very modern and well supplied. We travel frequently and my wife said that this was her favorite stay. Mostly because of the beach access and peaceful atmosphere. We would definitely stay again. Mike & Kirstin

The house was not very clean and smelled very musty, there were dead flies, spider webs and nests. The kitchen was very clean and I enjoyed cooking in it, the view was amazing but there is absolutely no beach access.

The location and the view were amaing!
But the house had a horrific toxic odor! Mold mildew poison.. not 100% sure what it was. It was so bad we started feeling ill. We ended up leaving a day early because we couldnt handle it anymore . Pretty much ruined our entire trip.. Great location. Great view!

Our coastal visit was so peaceful and enjoyable! We loved sitting on the deck for coffee and some meals while watching for whales with our binoculars. The beach was a close walk down. The older ones of us had hiking poles, and the toddler maneuvered the trail ok. The location of the house was close for visiting Devil’s Punchbowl and Newport areas. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking our meals.

The house was absolutely filthy and stank of sewage. We had to wash all the silverware, dishes and pans before we could use them because everything was covered in a greasy, sticky film. The beds are extremely uncomfortable and the sheets smell dank and musty. The upstairs toilet wobbles, there are cobwebs everywhere, half the blinds are broken, parts of the subfloor are exposed with nails sticking out, etc, etc. We started calling this house 'the gift that keeps on giving' because of how many issues we kept encountering. It was easy to check in and the location is great, but the house itself is a health hazard.

This property was fantastic! Mountain surroundings with an ocean view. We watched whales from the deck everyday. Home was rustic cabin but extremely clean. Whole process was wonderful. We will definitely be looking into renting this one again.

It’s all about the location
This location was the best part of this property. Deck views of beach, a trail close by to a waterfall and the softest, cleanest sand. You’re a short drive from Depot Bay or Newport as well. But the driveway is steep, which made very many trips to and from the beach very tiresome. The house and linens were clean, but there were some seasonal ants to deal with. We couldn’t find the broom to sweep up until we did a visual sweep of the property at checkout. Turns out it was outside and the dustpan as well but by a different door. The house has enough beds to accommodate two families but only one small couch. The bathrooms have decent water pressure. The outside lights were not working, but that made it easier to see the ocean at night. Not much has changed about this house since it was built in the 60’s, and it’s a quirky setup. But it has what you need and it’s peaceful, nice for the dogs as well. The deck is large and well kept, and the property is clean.

The setting of the Cedar House is quite remarkable. It sits at the end of a private road/drive in a stand of large trees, and overlooks the beach. There is nothing fancy about the house (some might call it dated or old fashioned), but it provides a comfortable and very relaxing experience. The wood stove was easy to use and was very effective at warming the house on a damp chilly day ( the regular heating units also worked well if you don’t want to bother with starting a fire). There is a steep bit at the end of the path to the beach, but the ropes worked just fine (you might want to bring some gloves for this) and the effort is well worth it. The short (about four feet) climb down would be a challenge for someone with mobility issues, The beach, which you can see and hear from the house, was really enjoyable and not busy at all (during the week, we were often the only people there).We enjoyed our stay immensely and would definitely return for another visit.

Private location with fantastic access to the beach
The property is literally at the end of the road- finding it was not difficult with the instructions provided. The cabin itself is rustic, so if you are looking for a modern, up-to-date kitchen and amenities this may not be the place for you. We wanted privacy and access to the beach- and this place was perfect! There is a hike up/down the hill to and from the beach and the last section requires use of a hand-line to lower yourself to the beach. This was not an issue for us or the dog that was with us.

This rustic cabin is such a classic coast experience - nothing fancy or updated,but you'll find everything you need. The beds are even pretty comfortable. The kitchen is well-stocked, but just know there is no dishwasher. The view is superb and it's just a short walk down to the beach. This is on a steep hill, so not appropriate for the elderly or anyone with mobility issues. We enjoyed the wood stove-just know that you'll need to bring your own wood (not enough provided). The back upstairs bedroom is a bit musty, but otherwise everything was comfortable. I agree with others that there's only one sofa in the living room so difficult for everyone to gather together without sitting in hard chairs. Check-in was super easy and the staff super helpful! We would stay here again.

Overall disappointing except for Location
The property is run down, outdated, and poorly maintained. As many other reviews confirm it was very dirty on arrival. If all you are interested in is a place near the beach that fits a medium size group this place will suffice but I wouldn’t return or recommend it to friends. Beach is only accessible to able-bodied visitors.

Our Otter Rock experience was quite mixed. As background, 6 adults and 2 small children stayed in the house for 2 nights. The best thing about the property is its location: beautiful elevation overlooking the ocean, easy access to the beach, only 5 miles from Newport. The worst thing about the property is the property itself: generally unclean and in need of substantial repair and improvement. There are also safety issues that should be addressed including the deck (one could easily lose one's footing and fall over the side) and the flooring (several sharp, protruding objects were identified). In short, The Cedar House is not a good value. I would try to find better accommodations.

The upstairs rooms have no privacy and the open air design doesn't make any sense.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at this cabin. One of the best Airbnb’s we have ever stayed out. While not a fancy, luxurious type of place... This was more of a Cozy Homey cabin feel. It was just perfect for us. Best of all was a short walk down to the beach which felt very private. The road/trail is at a somewhat decline, and you get down to the actual beach there’s a steep 2 foot drop where you use a rope to lower yourself down to the beach. But totally doable for everyone in our group from age 4 through 60. If you had handicap issues it would not work well for you. Check in and out was extremely easy. And the views from the window and the deck are worth every penny. Extremely private and quiet at the end of the world. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

We had an absolutely wonderful time at this cabin. One of the best Airbnb’s we have ever stayed out. While not a fancy, luxurious type of place... This was more of a Cozy Homey cabin feel. It was just perfect for us. Best of all was a short walk down to the beach which felt very private. The road/trail is at a somewhat decline, and you get down to the actual beach there’s a steep 2 foot drop where you use a rope to lower yourself down to the beach. But totally doable for everyone in our group from age 4 through 60. If you had handicap issues it would not work well for you. Check in and out was extremely easy. And the views from the window and the deck are worth every penny. Extremely private and quiet at the end of the world. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The Cedar House has a cabin type feel with a beautiful ocean view from the front window and deck. The location is quiet and has a feel of being in the deep woods. The appliances & furniture could use some upgrades and the common space is small. The home was equipped well enough for our stay and clean.. The nearby beach is beautiful although the access is very steep and not an easy trek. The drive needs to have the brush trimmed back. Although the town of Otter Rock didn’t have much to offer, the house is only 5 miles from Newport. We enjoyed our stay and would rent this place and use this agency in the future.

The Cedar House was a terrible experience starting with front porch chairs (torn, dirty, not useable), filthy kitchen (all dishes were grimy, pots had peeling bottoms), holes in the walls, minimal furniture (no place for to sit except on one sofa or kitchen table (which didn't fit space), used underwear on door hook, disgusting shower (dirty and literally dripped water at full power), 2 small sticks for firewood, and was such a disappointment for a family celebration. Only stayed one night because family arrived late. Left first thing in the morning and appreciated the managements response (refund for stay, except one night).

7 adults stayed 2 nights at the Cedar house, with 2 more guests joining us for a day trip. The first thing we noticed was the darkness in the house. It was all beautiful wood inside, but the lighting was awful. We took the glass shades off the bedroom/bathroom lights to provide more lighting which still was not enough. There was no lighting in the hallway where the pantry was. We were forced to use the flash lights on our cell phones to see inside cupboards, which were filled with junk. We are unable to turn the heater off, so windows were opened.
The few pans there were warped and filthy, which explains the stains on the glass top stove - we scrubbed off with the spray cleaner we bought! Also no hot pads.
In big letters, the ad says the house had a dishwasher (there were even washer tablets) but the fine print said no dishwasher. Hmmm???
One bedroom had 2 bedside lights, 1 light was not plugged in because it was not able to reach any outlet!
The upstairs laundry closet, which was clearly marked sheets, blankets was EMPTY. No spare blankets. My sister did find an extra blanket tucked in a cubby in her room. When she opened it up, Doritos fell out!!!
Previous reviews mentioned the upstairs shower not working. It STILL was not working! This was unacceptable for our large group, and we’d would like to pursue a partial refund. Are the owners not reading these reviews?
Even though the house sleeps 8, the 1 couch and 1 torn chair were not enough for all of us in the living room. The long narrow gravel road could be difficult for big vehicles to navigate. Just know that brush could scratch your car.
