About this house rental
Set on a bluff with high 360 degree views of serene Long Island sound, this modern and well-equipped home is a short stroll to the beach and close to the charming town of Mattituck. Take in stunning views from each room; the large eat-in kitchen, open living room with vaulted double height ceilings, and three bedrooms with en-suite baths. Living and dining open onto a new deck where you will BBQ and enjoy the sunsets with cocktails in your hands. After a day on the beach or biking in the trails of Mattituck, warm up sore muscles in the hot tub while your children play on the swing set.
This is truly the perfect summer escape. A rare find in a bucolic North Shore town far from the crowds of the Hamptons, yet close to hospitals and groceries and vineyards..... to serve all your needs.

Our party of six stayed here for 4-5 days for a wine tour. This a house overloaded with character, almost had a museum feel about it. We had a good time making up stories about some of the creepier dolls and props on the ground floor.
Quick response on small issue with kitchen. Water pressure issues if multiple baths/showers happening simultaneously. Access to top and bottom floor is limited to a narrow spiral staircase which creates a challenge for getting luggage to/from rooms.

I contacted owner “Alex” a few days in advance to find out address of the house. He responded that all would be provided by VRBO website. The address was indeed subsequently provided but on arrival there was no key evident, no information on website, no answer to calls and texts to owner’s NY number. A call to the vrbo website from the driveway ( one bar on ATT) finally yielded a human agent somewhere, sounding like abroad. She also attempted to but failed to contact owner and started a search for hotel rooms. Meanwhile, we were missing the wedding rehearsal. While the hotel search ensued, I was able to access the garage, even though the door had no handles. Inside was an ATV, expensive fishing gear, etc. That it was inadvertently left unlocked was the second sign the house would be problematic. Other owner finally responded late at night— from Greece.
She offered us an extra free night but refused to credit the first night. All in writing.
The house: great view and fun art and artifacts.
Problems:
1. Overpowering chemical smell on first floor. Owner said it was from scented candles but if all the sliders were open to air the place out and subsequently closed, the chemical smell returned.
2. One slider had a long neglected screen that was torn, so mosquitos limited its use.
3. The basement bedroom is one thin door away from the noisy HVAC.
4. The basement shower provides no hot water.
5. Jungle gym area has foot tall grass; unusable Lyme tick risk.

Water/ice did not work on refrigerator. The vent for the stove top did not work, so when we cooked hamburgers on the grill portion of the stove, smoke went everywhere in the home. Too many chetaks was afraid to move around the house hoping we did not break anything. Lovely things but just overloaded with " stuff". Overall wonderful experience, views were breath taking and neighbors were super nice. Location was perfect, quiet and serene.

My college friends and I get together annually for a Girls Weekend. This house is in a perfect location, close to everything we wanted to do on LI’s east end. The house is very spacious and the deck overlooking the water was a favorite place to unwind each night. The hot tub was an additional plus. The house has some idiosyncrasies for sure, but we enjoyed our stay very much regardless. The owner responded to all questions in a timely fashion and seemed to genuinely appreciate the feedback from our group. With a few tweaks, I’d give this stay a 5.

House was truly beautiful and couldn’t beat the location. The most wonderful views can be seen from the deck, the pictures don’t do it justice. Eating breakfast on the deck watching the sun come up was breathtaking.
I will say that the wifi was a little spotty which made some check-ins difficult, but we didn’t spend too much time in the house.
There are a lot of antique and cool knick-knacks in the home that made for some fun conversation and design inspo. Hosts were easy to get in contact with and helpful when we had inquiries. Overall, such a beautiful and relaxing stay!

This property is beautifully located on tall bluffs overlooking the Long Island Sound with the sand and pebble beach shoreline in direct line of sight but only accessible via a short quarter-mile walk. The views are superb and the locale quiet and relaxing (except when the landscapers are around). The shoreside deck is large, well stocked with furnishings, and features a nice comfortable gazebo as well as a large and inviting, versatile hot tub. The house is contemporary in design, also with large and inviting open spaces decorated with a strongly aquatic theme throughout. With some work, the property might be a 5 star but there are some failings that the owners need to address. There is no orientation booklet to explain important matters like internet passwords, how to turn on the hot-tub, or how to adjust the quite complex AC system. We had to disturb the owners to do this, and while they quickly responded, things were still a little unclear. The house has every type of quality drinking glass, but decent cooking pans and a good knife set are lacking. The electric stove top is old in quite style and somewhat inadequate, the failing dishwasher has seen many better years, and the icemaker in the fridge was inoperative. All this said, we'd still return for another visit to this unusual and impressive property on the attractive and rural eastern end of Long Island.

Awesome home minutes away from everything we needed. Enjoyed the stay, best of all seeing family we have not seen in years was out greatest accomplishment.

Awesome location for wineries with an amazing view!
RECOMMEND! View is amazing! Only real concern is AC in summer
Bedrooms
- master bedroom w/ huge bathroom on the 2nd level. Comfortable bed (mattress a bit hard but I liked it and slept great)
- good size bedroom on main level with attached bathroom
- another bedroom in the basement, but the floor is concrete so gets a bit chilly down there. There is also a bathroom down in the basement, but not attached to the bedroom. We did not use this bedroom, it was not as nice as the other two because of concrete floor.
Living space:
Kitchen with large island flows into dining area and family room. Couch in family room fits 5 or 6, but we did not utilize it much. The dining room table was great for 4, could fit 6. Kitchen was nice with plenty of space and a good size fridge.
Outdoor space:
- amazing deck with a great view of Long Island Sound. We spent most of our time out on the deck. There was also an iron-work type table on the deck which was nice for dinner or some games.
- hot tub out on the deck (in a separate fenced area). Hot tub was very nice.
- nice gazebo as well with couch and few comfortable chairs, provided some shade during hottest pet of day.
- there is also a front deck with a 6 person table and chairs and a swing set out front. We did not have kids and did not utilize the front deck at all.
Other essentials:
- kitchen: we found plenty of cookware and were a ole to prepare meals at home: a few pots, pans, pitchers, knife set, measuring cups, and plenty of mugs and glasses.
- yes there were two wine openers
- yes there is a coffee pot
- Toiletries: towels were provided, bar soap (Dove) left in all bathrooms and some liquid hand soap as well. Half full shampoo bottle provided in master bathroom.
- Air conditioning: we were there in May, but we got a pretty hot weekend (mid to high 70s). There is AC in the house, but not obvious how to control it, in future would help if this was explained.
- also the master bedroom has a lot of windows and got hot during the day, the AC is a bit dated and was not keeping up with the heat. Cooled down well at night (there is a fan and a lot of windows to open).
- Grill: grill was in the garage, we had to wheel it out and unfortunately the starter was not working, so never used the grill.
- WiFi: bad service at the house, needed to use WiFi, had to request password from contact
Directions:
- bad google map directions, had to look at satellite view to find way up to the house.
