Ok, of course the place was built in 1797. The title above reflects the not the house but the interior. The beds are dressed with old linens, old mattresses and old pillows. The homeowner left 2 towels for us(2 people) to use over a 3 night visit. Overall the property was very charming, with a great setting, but if your looking for fresh, clean and plush, look elsewhere.

The property itself was a very cool historical house, the charm of a house built in the 1700’s was amazing. The only issue we had was the nosey neighbors that were taking pictures of us and our cars. They were trying to turn in the owner of the house for renting it out.

I give this house 2 stars because it is a beautiful historic home and a great neighborhood. There are tons of books for history buffs. This has the potential to be a wonderful rental home but it’s not there yet. I was unprepared for the fact that the home is obviously the primary residence of the owner and there clearly hasn’t been any thought for the guest experience. Upon arrival, we were really confused. There were personal items everywhere. The refrigerator and pantry were full of groceries and leftovers, the shower had the owner’s toiletries in it, there was a used mask lying on the table, and the bedroom had half of a teeth whitening tray left sitting on a dresser along with bank statements and bills in piles. The dressers/ closets were full and the nightstand had many items of a personal nature. There was nowhere for a guest to put their own items and I felt like I was accidentally invading another person’s privacy. It was unclear what items were for guest use and just felt awkward. Considering the pandemic and the fact that vaccines were still rare at this time, I thought we should have been informed of the nature of this rental to prepare for being in another person’s space. Furthermore, the shower handle was broken so the hot water couldn’t go all the way on. Thus the shower was lukewarm at best. There were also no window covering in the bedroom, which looks out onto the street so I wasn’t comfortable changing there. There was disassembled furniture everywhere, leaning up against the walls. Also, we rented this house rather than a hotel to have access to a kitchen so we could cook in light of COVID. However, there was hardly any cookware or space to store food. If you want to cook, keep it very basic. Despite all this, I probably would not have left a negative review had the owner just communicated better. I am not a person who generally complains to the manager or anything, but this experience was just so egregious. After arriving, I contacted the owner to express my surprise at the conditions and asked for a modest discount. I was relieved when he wrote back to apologize and agreed to a discount. I wrote back a kind and encouraging email saying how much potential the home had and attempting to discuss the discount amount. Unfortunately, he never wrote back, even after I contacted him a second time to inquire about the check-out procedure and we never received a discount. I found it all very unprofessional.

This house has so much character. I loved all the old floors, fireplaces, moldings, doorknobs and just all the history in every room. It is a wonderful, quiet neighborhood and an easy walk to town. It is a very casual place to stay. It feels like visiting a friend. Nothing fancy but I felt right at home. The kitchen had everything I needed, the bed was very comfortable, the backyard is very private. I would stay here again.

Good for a quick overnight but not as advertised
Good for a quick overnight but not as advertised
The owner made checking in etc. very easy, and the house was clean and very interesting as an historical property. However, the furnishings and decor were not as advertised in the pictures, and personal effects were out in the open where you would not expect them in a vacation rental.
