About this house rental
About the property
Thurs-Thurs check in/out 7 night min in Summer - Please enquire for short stays outside these times.
In the artisan quarter of Salcombe, one of the most popular seaside holiday destinations in South Devon, this two-bedroom end-of-terrace on Island Square is cosy and perfectly formed. Close to the heart of all the action but pleasingly set back on a private square that’s shielded by the former sea wall, it’s an ideal bolthole for those seeking sand, sea and (hopefully) sun in the South West.
Festoon lighting hangs outside the front door providing a warm welcome. Walk in and you’re greeted by an open plan living, kitchen and dining space that’s decorated in a style that’s modern but sympathetic to the history of this charming cottage. Everything you could ask for has been artfully installed, from a dedicated wine fridge to lots of storage space housing every utensil for wining and dining after a day on the beach. There’s a separate utility room complete with washer, dryer and hanging space for wetsuits and swimming costumes, and a second entrance from the street so you don’t bring sandy feet into the house.
Upstairs, the master bedroom has a double bed, and a second bedroom has a ‘triple sleeper’ bunk bed (the bottom bunk being large enough for two children). However, guests should be aware that the property is designed to cater for four people as a rule. The family bathroom is a good size and is equipped with a bath complete with an overhead drencher shower head.
The property does not have a garden, but has a courtyard outside the front, which is shared with the other properties in the terrace, provides privacy when the town is at its busiest.
Recommended for: A couple, family or small group of friends. Gin lovers! The Salcombe Gin Distillery is 50 metres from the door.
Favourite feature: This property offers an oasis of calm whilst placing you in the heart of Salcombe, close to all the shops, restaurants and the harbour.
Need to know: The property offers an optional parking pass charged at £40 per week or £25 for short stays for the long stay car park 5 mins level walk away. Please mention this on booking.
About a holiday in Salcombe
Salcombe is a historic fishing and sailing town that has become famous as a holiday destination because of its natural beauty and its local charm. Blessed with more beaches than you can visit in a week, a jaw-dropping estuary and magnificent walks along the South West Coast Path, it’s also filled with local traditions. For example, there’s the Town Regatta, excellent sailing opportunities, its own gin and ice cream factories. In fact, Island Square sits opposite Salcombe Gin Distillery, which has a bar overlooking the water serving Gin cocktails as well as excellent coffees. You can’t leave without sampling the town’s unparalleled clotted cream fudge, visiting the magnificent bakery and restaurants such as Captain Flint’s and The Winking Prawn, which have practically become a rite of passage for visitors.

We had a lovely stay in this property.
It is very convenient and perfect for 4!
It is small and cozy but has everything we needed ( washing machine and dryer was a great plus!)
No information about where to get rid of bins and ustensiles in the kitchen all a bit dirty and sticky!( pans very damaged as well as oven trays)

I was not warned of building works on-going in the next door property despite specifically asking and being reassured before my stay that the cottage and courtyard were quiet
Fortunately I was warned by a local person 10 days before my booking I called the agency HOLIDAY HOST to ask to cancel They refused to cancel the booking
I then stayed in another property locally and while there I took pictures of extensive building works including a digger in the road and 2-5 workers on site with ladders and materials and equipment filling the courtyard
The builders worked from 8am - 4pm each day
It would have been a very unpleasant place to stay
The property should have had this clearly mentioned on the website and HOLIDAY HOST should have told me about the situation and offered a refund instead of refusing it

Lovely house in the heart of Salcombe.

Excellent stay in Old Sea Wall Cottage, Salcombe. A well equipped, warm and cosy cottage within easy reach of shops and restaurants. Walking distance to North and South Sands so no need to use the car during our stay.

This is a really lovely property, the owners have utilised every bit of space superbly. Ideal for us as a couple with a dog! Beautifully decorated, very clean and very well equipped. Beds comfy and shower very powerful. Communication with Holiday Host was excellent. The ‘air guide’ straight to your phone is a great idea! Will definitely be back!

Superficially clean ie, surfaces and flooring, but the oven required an Eco clean and the fridge/freezer needed de-frosting. The staircase was lethal: whilst the rope handrail was plenty long enough, it was unattached at the top and bottom of the staircase, potentially dangerous. The wash basin was very strange.
For your information only, we left a note for the cleaners about the oven and F/F - the owners would expect these to be attended to. We did not use the oven, but did clean the grill pan, roasting dish (food residue) and baking tray. The F/F was snowed up. No dishwasher tablets.

Weekend break
Wonderful cottage in a very central location. Everything was perfect and the cottage was both immaculate and well equipped

Great stay in this little cottage
We loved this little cottage in Salcombe, the instructions on getting there and the photos showing the outside made it so easy to find.
It was a very clean modern cottage inside, and it was warm and comfortable with everything you could need for a break away from home. We are very Happy Customers 😊
