About this villa rental

This 8-bedroom dream home includes two guest houses and delivers comfort from every nook and cranny including plentiful amenities, amazing architecture and elegant shabby-chic décor with many items imported from England. Located in the heart of Solana Beach, walking distance to many great restaurants, the beach and San Elijo lagoon.  With plenty of room for up to fourteen fortunate guests, Solana Beach Sanctuary represents a delectable slice of the Southern Californian paradise.

Solana Beach Sanctuary is only rented when the owner is on vacation, so the house is truly homey and has lots of character. The house has a comfortable and elegant feel in terms of furnishings and color scheme, allowing for visitors to feel at home. An expansive great room with kitchen and dining area are open to the backyard, adding to the accessibility and smooth flow of the home. Featuring vaulted ceilings with exposed wood ceilings, a natural stone fireplace, and imports from England such as the AGA stove and breakfast bar, Solana Beach Sanctuary sets the standard for luxury living in a true Californian spirit.

The grassy palm tree laden backyard has a large and inviting swimming pool with a waterfall and attached whirlpool spa. After a swim, enjoy a dry sauna before relaxing with a book under the lanai.

This property has three separate living areas:

The main house of the Solana Beach Sanctuary has 4 bedrooms.  The master suite has a California king size bed, with an expansive en-suite bath, a fireplace and patio overlooking the pool area. Across the indoor bridge to the southern wing of the house there are two rooms with a shared bath. One has a trundle that converts to 2 twin beds or one king and a  60 inch TV complete with games.  The other a queen-size bed open to a large patio overlooking the pool area with lounge chairs.  Downstairs is the artists retreat off the main living area with a fireplace, another California King-size bed and en-suite bath.  The linens and furniture in each room are all elegantly shabby-chic themed.

The detached pool house has a relaxing seating area with two lofts where guests can stay in comfortable beds (one queen bed and one full size bed).  There is a full bath and a small kitchen efficiency with microwave and mini-fridge.

The guest house provides some privacy for the guests that choose to stay here.  There is a king bed with a view of the pool located in the loft area and a trundle that can pull out into two twins or a king bed in a the den.  This guest house also provides a second kitchen area and laundry.

With fast Wi-Fi access, a modern home office, a library with fireplace, and located walking distance to the beach, guests are left desiring little else.

There are 3 parking spaces at the house for you to use. The Solana Beach Train station is an easy walk away. During the Del Mar Races, bus transportation is provided from this station directly to the race track or you can walk the one-mile along the lovely coastal train walk. Uber and Lyft are also great options for those times when you just don't want to drive.

Solana Beach is a beautiful seaside community with wonderful restaurants, bars, and the famous Belly Up Tavern for live music. The coastline has countless beaches and spots for surfing, tidepooling, and the nearby San Elijo Lagoon offers many wonderful trails and hikes.

Cedros Design District is a short stroll with a Winery, Brewery, many Cafes and fabulous shopping.

I will meet you at the house upon arrival to go over the many awesome details that you need to know like how to turn on the pool waterfall, make an amazing espresso or get the dry sauna ready for use. During your stay, you can always call me should you have any questions that the house information booklet does not provide. I am available 24 hours a day for questions :)

Heating of the pool is NOT available. You will be charged for the electricity if you heat the pool during your stay.

The pool is warm enough to swim comfortably in the summer months without heating :)

We just left the house after a six day family reunion with people coming in from various parts of the country. We had three generations and everyone LOVED the house. We were nervous about certain things from looking at it online but everyone agreed it was a great house. We were all comfortable. Many reviews mention being uncomfortable with the AGA stove. Once we understood how to use it, we really enjoyed cooking in it and on it. The food we made was delicious. Food cooked more quickly and was more juicy - nothing ever got overdone, tough or dried-out. The kitchen is a dream kitchen, with so many special things as well as all the ordinary things a person could want. In addition to having enough bedrooms and bathrooms, it was wonderful for our group to have an office space downstairs and a library upstairs. This home has such wonderful books! We enjoyed the bathrooms that had added-on "tushy" bidets on the toilets. The location is fabulous. The owners are very generous and we were greeted with lovely flowers on the table, lots of snacks and some drinks in a little drink refrigerator. We were thrilled to be able to walk to the beach as well as to explore nature and the challenges of Annie's Canyon.Short drive to fabulousSeaside Market. Molly, who manages the property is amazing and wonderful to work with. We didn't need much from her, but whenever we contacted her with a question or problem, she immediately attended to it. This is a place we'd be happy to stay at again.

This home is really so nice. The property manager was absolutely fantastic and very responsive. She made her self available to text messages almost instantly and was extremely helpful. I was very grateful for her and the home owners flexibility. We met our extended family in Solana Beach for a family vacation. This was an awesome home for that. Room for us all to spread out and have our individual spaces as well as awesome shared spaces. We hung out in the backyard on the patio and it was so lovely. Everything was clean and well stocked. They provided laundry detergent and all the essentials. There was also a very nice welcome basket full of snacks that the kids and grown ups both enjoyed. A big thank you to the home owners and Molly!! There are a couple of things I think I want to pass on to other renters, especially those with small children. I know the other reviews talk about the AGA stove, but there are a few things that I wish I had understood before renting. The oven and stove are on continuously and you do not shut them off. This means that you walk by the oven and stove and feel the heat radiating off the oven and stove and they are pretty warm to the touch. We have a 3 year-old with Autism and I was very nervous about this, especially because there was no way to childproof it. However, we did reach out to the homeowners and they said we could turn it off, but it would take an almost an entire day to reheat to working temperatures. There was another regular gas stove and oven in the guest house so we did actually consider doing this. We were able to place the large stools they had in the kitchen around the stove and it created enough of a diversion that it never became an issue with our 3-year-old. Speaking of our 3 year old, I think families with young kids should know there is not a pool fence around the pool or hot tub and there are multiple doors and exit points to get to the backyard. We made it work, but it was work for sure and some anxiety to say the least. That being said, I am not sure I would have picked a different home if given the chance. It was almost exactly what we needed and the beach was an easy walk.. We had so much fun and had everything we needed. A beautiful home and fully stocked and clean with lots of space. Perfect? No. Awesome? Yes!!

Wonderful place with a great pool for all. It was great to have three separate living areas to split the family up. Location was within easy walking distance of the beach--local shops-- and restaurants. It worked out perfectly for our family get together.

Simply the Best…..
Simply the Best…..
In our 35+ years of renting large multi-generation vacation homes( and owning one ourselves) we can say this was the Best to date. The home offered so many spaces for so many age groups to spread but the outdoor space was the winner. Beautifully landscaped without feeling like a “Club Med”. Coming from several hot and humid environments this SoCal location was a delight. Sleeping with windows open in July a real treat. Sheets and towels were generous and luxurious. The property manager walked us through the house and was very responsive to our few requests during the week. The owners have made their home feel like OUR home. It was an absolutely delightful stay. We always like yo try a new spot each year but we have reversed course and will hopefully return next summer. This property truly deserves 5 Stars.

Has potential
Has potential
Even though the setup of this house is great there are a lot of reason why it doesn’t function well. First of all the oven is an AGA oven (from England). It is very strange and has no knobs and it is always on. It keeps the house very warm and I must warn you that there is no A/C. To add to the problem there are no screens on the windows. Since the house is located near the lagoon there are TONS of mosquitos. So you either boil in the house or open the windows and get eaten alive by mosquitos. The next disappointing thing about our stay was that the waterfall, hot tub and pool light weren’t working during our stay. Those were features we were looking forward to and the property manager didn’t think mattered when she gave us the tour at the beginning of our stay. We got upset and she did put into motion repair work that we had to deal with during our whole week stay. It was finally fixed the last day of our stay! Please note that not all the TVs in the House work and the ones that do do not have normal cable. They have an internet cable called Sling. So if you want to watch sports or news you will have no luck. The washing machine never fully drains the water from your wash so I would not recommend using it. Lastly I have to say with all the problems the property manager gave us a very defensive attitude when we were in contact with her. The place has potential but needs some work and it’s located in a great neighborhood with kind neighbors.

Perfect for our family reunion
Perfect for our family reunion
When we walked in the door, it was even more beautiful than we expected. Decorated with style and comfort in mind, it was perfect for our large family reunion. It had a very nice pool and backyard, and was close to the beach and restaurants in the area. Most of the time, the weather is fabulous in this area, but a hot humid week made for a muggy stay without A/C. Overall, an excellent property with plenty of toys and things to do.
