About this house rental
We have recently renovated this sweet seaside home to provide a place for families to come and reconnect and enjoy the beauty of Anderson Island. Anderson Island is the southernmost island in Puget Sound, just a short 20 minute ferry ride from the historic town of Steilacoom, Washington - about one hour South of Seattle. The home features a stunning view of Mt Rainier, a private setting, and a quiet gravel beach.
Enjoy your coffee on a beautiful deck while you watch the sunrise over Mt Rainier. Keep an eye out for bald eagles, seals, porpoise, and an occasional Orca that just might venture by. After breakfast, explore the gravel beach and collect sea shells and agates, write a poem, or read that book you've been meaning to get to. Perhaps you can take a short drive to one of the many island parks, explore one of the amazing hiking trails, or take a dip in the lake at the "old swimming hole."
Inside the home, you will find bright open spaces for family gatherings, a cozy propane stove, comfy couches to curl up on and watch your favorite movie. The home is tastefully decorated in with a fresh costal farmhouse feel, featuring our personal photographs from around the island. Upstairs are two bedrooms tastefully appointed, both with new queen mattresses and plenty of comfy pillows and comforters for snuggling. A full bath and laundry room are also upstairs.
There is a well equipped open kitchen, dining table with seating for six and an eating bar so the whole family can gather and enjoy the sites and smells and remember what it is like to be a family together again!
Downstairs, a large walk out basement with view features a separate small kitchen, television/living room with a brand new sleeper sofa, and a third large bedroom with a king bed and twin daybed with a pull out second twin bed. There is a second bath downstairs as well with shower.
After dinner, take a seat out on the lawn and remember what it's like to count the stars away from the city lights, or perhaps toast a few s'mores over the fire pit while you listen to the waves lap at the shore.
For six generations, our family has called Anderson Island home. It truly is a unique and special place, a step back in time. Agate Beach House has been restored to reflect the beauty and tranquil nature of the island. Every detail has been attended to for your comfort and pleasure.
Give Agate Beach a try! You won't be disappointed!

This house was perfect for us. The view was beautiful, the house was clean and well stocked. The host even left us some snacks. We had a wonderful time!

This place was so quiet with a private access to the beach. We loved how clean the house was and how the management/owners took extra care to make sure we were well provided for- I would recommend this place to anyone! It was one of our more clean houses that we have stayed at and well stocked with everything we needed!

Best view on Island. Wonderfully appointed, beautiful photos throughout.

We had a wonderful time at the Agate Beach House! The home is every bit as lovely as the pictures and equipped with everything you will need for your stay. We loved looking for shells along the beach at low tide and setting out by the fit pit in the evenings. There are plenty of hiking trails to explore and the kids enjoyed swimming in the lake. We definitely would recommend this home and Anderson Island to friends and family.

Agate Beach house is absolutely beautiful! My family and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very comfortable and spectacular views. We would highly recommend it.
Thank you❣️❣️

The house was clean and we were welcomed with fresh scones and a bottle of wine and s’more makings.
The ferry ride to the island meant we had to plan accordingly, but it was so fun for the grandkids and it ran very smoothly overall. We were able to enjoy outdoor games and an evening fire in the fire pit.
There is a steep stairway which we had to make sure was off limits to the baby, but this was easy with the door at the top of the stairway.
The local cafe and restaurant served us excellent food both on site and take out.
We were looking for a place to spend some outdoor leisure time with extended family and this was a great fit.

Everything about this property is superb. I am picky about cleanliness and this house is well-cared for in every aspect.
Veronica is magnificent to work with—quick to respond and very helpful.
We have stayed in many vacation homes, but this is by far my favorite!

Well appointed home was more than just a place to sleep. This was more like your own home; well stocked, so many little amenities, and quiet.
Family night around the fire ring and S’mores fixings provided by our gracious host family.

After staying in a number of short term furnished rental properties, we were delighted to find that there was not a single thing that we needed that the property was not furnished with. The house was clean and nothing short of what was pictured. We really enjoyed our stay.
Veronica, was amazing in every way. She called prior to our stay and proved to be a fantastic resource in ways that were not even related to the property. On another note, we left a soft sided cooler in the freezer with food, baby bottles, etc and Veronica offered not only to ship it to us, but even bring it on the ferry to meet us on the other side. Veronica represented the property and owner very well.
Highly recommended.

Awesome in every way. The island was a treat. It was my birthday (mom) so my husband and our youngest came and then our oldest who lives near Tacoma came on my birthday. We BBQ’d and enjoyed the view and peace. Would recommend but don’t know if we want to share this wonderful secret. LOL. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Best experience I have had with a Vrbo property! Unit was everything that was claimed in promotional information & then some? Everything worked as it should & the few things not found when cooking for example were quickly remedied another way! All in our group of six were very well pleased with this property & the only draw back was that the weather did not always cooperate with our view of Mt Rainier which no one could help! Thanks again & keep up the good work!

We enjoyed 4 nights in this well equipped, comfortable home with our son, his wife and two young grandkids. It lacked for nothing! A well stocked kitchen, games, comfortable beds and plenty of linens and towels, The home is decorated nicely but is also"grandkid friendly" so we didn't need to worry.
We loved the views and the tranquility of the beach, but also found ample activities on the island. We visted playgrounds, swimming spots, took a hike and even enjoyed Weds Bingo with the locals at the Riviera Club!
The manager responded promptly to all my questions.
Definitely a place I would visit again!

Outstanding. It is a rare property that comes equipped with everything including filters, coffee and shampoo. Air conditioner worked great. Beds were comfortable.

We were 2 families of 4, including young children. We had a fantastic stay.
I’ll start with Anderson Island: The island is remote so pay attention when you are booking. There is a small general store island that has a good selection but you should probably let bring groceries onto the island if you have a long stay. There are several beautiful hikes around the island that are family friendly. The swimming hole was a hit but beware of yellow jackets. They were very active in mid August. We stayed on the island for 6 nights and never took any day trips off but pay attention to the ferry schedule if you do.
Now the property: the house was wonderfully stocked with utensils, bakeware, etc. Everything was very clean and well taken care of. The house is a great set up for 2 families since it is almost like a duplex. We love our morning coffee on the deck overlooking Mt. Rainier. We saw dolphins and seals every morning. The beach kept us busy for hours, collecting shells and rocks. The blackberries were ripe during our stay and we collected pints for snacking and baking. Overall, we loved our stay and would gladly return!

Perfect setup for families. There are two living spaces. It was easy for the kids going to bed so the adults could stay up. So serene.

Beautiful home on a quiet and peaceful island. The house was clean and well appointed with everything one could need. Communication was clear with quick responses. We will definitely return to this property and would recommend to others without hesitation.

This was by far our best rental over the last few years. The view is unbeatable. The house has plenty of space for everyone. A fully stocked kitchen. A great backyard and access to the beach. We hadn't heard of Anderson Island before seeing this rental and now wish we stayed longer.

This was an amazing place to stay. All of the family loved it. Plenty of space to relax and enjoy the island feel. I would recommend this place to anyone looking.

This was by far the best experience I’ve had in a VRBO rental! The owners have gone above and beyond to provide everything necessary to create lasting memories. The location is breathtaking! The decor and original photography are beautiful. The house is extremely well stocked with the best quality products. It was interesting to learn the island’s history and the part the owners and their families played in its growth and development. I would definitely return for the tranquility and beauty. Thank you for a wonderful island adventure!

Agate house was a wonderful place to relax with my family. We had a top notch view of Mt. Ranier. The house accommodated our family of 7 nicely. The private beach was gorgeous, the house was perfect. Thank you for sharing it with us. We will hold these memories to ❤.

We couldn’t wait to get back to The Agate Beach House! It was fun to see the island in another season. We were also here in the spring and the island has a different kind of magic in the fall. The house was impeccably clean and we invited the in-laws this time. They couldn’t believe we had our own private beach and the full moon was an extra special bonus.

This was perfect. Beautiful ferry ride, 5 mile drive to charmingly decorated property, straight-on view of Mt. Rainier across the water, open kitchen to dining area & living room, comfortable linens & lush towels. Light & bright with plenty of windows.

Such nice touches -everything we could have wanted was provided. The house is lovely-lots of space for everyone. Views are great and thanks for the s’mores! Highly recommend.

This property was A+
I would highly recommend it to any of my friends or family.
Elegant decor, spotlessly clean, lots of provisions, great views, fun area, and an excellent site location.
There was even a split phase air conditioner! AC is somewhat rare in the PNW, but during the heat wave that coincided with our visit, it was GREATLY appreciated! My parents stayed in a non-AC unit on the mainland and they were pretty miserable.
We did run out of hot water one time, but that’s just because we all took a bunch of showers in a row and forgot that tankless water heaters are not a universal installation (after we got our own tankless water heater installed a few years ago, we forgot that this was a thing). And this situation was totally fine, BTW. As I mentioned above, we were there during a big heat wave so running out of hot water didn’t give the last person hypothermia or anything (ha ha!).
Fun, gorgeous, beautiful place. It takes oodles of hard, careful work to make that happen, and the property owners DID all of that work.
Four stars, A+, and kudos!

We spent 5 days at this beautiful location and had a wonderful time. The home had all the essentials we needed, including s’more’s ingredients which were a big hit. The kids had so much fun playing cornhole and darts and exploring the beach area. The lake was beautiful and we spent 2 days there in the sun. Cannot recommend this property enough. Everything we expected and more.

Lovely
This house has a great view of the water with Mt Ranier in the background. I spent hours sitting on the deck and my son was a fan of skipping stones on the little beach. The house was comfortable and the owner/rental agent were extremely responsive when we managed to lock ourselves out.

still personal
As most of the vacation rentals have turned to large management groups it was very refreshing to stay in a place with such nice personal touches. Beautiful views. Very well appointed house with everything you need to settle right in. we said we were traveling with an infant and they procured a pack and play for us. there is a kitchen downstairs and upstairs that would be amenable to larger groups. if you are looking to explore anderson island, or just to get away from the daily grind i highly recommend.

The view to die for. We loved every minute there. Will be back.
Great weather. Mountian out for three days.

perfection!
absolutely fantastic place and hosts. From check-in to check-out, everything was an 11 out of 10. Clean, modern, stocked, and safe - well put together place. We left some firewood (pay it forward, bring some to leave too!), enjoyed the view, the deck, the house, the island (check out the boat ramp beach, and old swimming hole), and had delicious coffee brewed up within minutes of parking at the house. Thank you for the great break from the city.

Million Dollar View
We enjoyed a lovely stay at Agate Beach. The view is absolutely breathtaking. Our family loved the house. The kitchens are well appointed and have everything you would need. The rooms are nice and clean and the mattress and bedding feels like a hotel. The outdoors has so much to offer, a fire pit, lawn games, and a private beach. We fished off the shore and caught a couple fish. We saw orcas swimming by several days. The house was perfect for our family, would easily fit two families of 4. The island is so lovely and quaint. We really enjoyed Andy’s Marine Park and the Ol’ Swimmin’ Hole. Anderson Island and Agate Beach House will not disappoint.

Magical Place
This place is a well kept secret that I almost don’t want to share with you. But alas, our hosts and the cabin were too perfect not to give a rave review. If you want to get away from the bustling stress of city life like us this is the place. We cooked meals, saw orcas while eating breakfast, bald eagles soaring and picturesque hikes along coast. We’ll be back!

Girlfriends getaway weekend.
The property was as beautiful as advertised. Fantastic views of The Mountain and our weather was great. Campfires each night. Nice beach for a walk. The kitchen was fully stocked, we had everything we needed to create some amazing meals. Can't wait to return. Slow paced Island life.

Very cute house & Great Island to Visit!
The house was terrific for nine of us; five adults and four kids (toddler to teens).
Great amenities, good access to the ocean (watch out for the last three steps to get to the beach), and the fantastic view!!
The property manager, Veronica, was great to work with. Veronica provided us with a lot of helpful info, and she quickly responded to any random questions.
The only drawback for us was the water; how it smelled due to iron (one of the kids said it smelled like blood, and one of the adults said it smelled like penny/coin), but other than that, we loved the location, the view, and all the amenities the house had to offer.
We cannot wait to revisit this house soon!

Perfect for Winter Holiday
We loved this cozy, quiet home. The host was very communicative and quick to respond to a few questions we had when we arrived. The house had everything we needed and was very comfortable for two small families. There were a lot of personal touches - they even added a small Christmas tree for our stay (after thoughtfully reaching out to check if that was ok.) Would absolutely recommend.

Thank you for allowing my family to share your beautiful cottage.

Lovely beach house
Anderson Island Agate Beach House is as described, a lovely renovated home with stunning views. The owner and property manager were very responsive to questions and stayed connected throughout my rental. The house is roomy and easily accommodated my family of 6 adults. It was well lit and the kitchen was well equipped with every size pot and pan and plenty of kitchen gadgets. We had never been to the island before and had fun exploring the marine parks and riding our bikes on the roads. We enjoyed the books left in the house about the island history and look forward to coming back!

Secluded with a fabulous view
The weather was stormy but the view was still dynamic. Very clean, comfy, and well stocked. They even offer all the makings for S’mores which we would taken advantage of at the fire pit if the rain had stopped. Donned our rain gear and walked the private steps to the beach. Found several agates. This “downtown” is the local store and restaurant so if you are looking for shops this is not the place. We were
Looking for relaxation and quiet. This home fit that goal in every way. Great place for creatives to create. Mt Rainer peaked out of the clouds briefly. Wow! It is right there in full view in the living area. I imagine the warmer months at this location are spectacular . Communication with the property manager is excellent. She even alerted us to an Anderson Island App so we could see when the store and restaurant were open, check ferry schedules and more. You will not be disappointed with a stay here.

Beyond expectations!
The house, the yard, the view, the water access, the neighborhood, and the island exceeded our expectations. Everything was perfect! There was a power outage on the island when we arrived that affected this house, but the the owner responded to my phone call quickly and helped us troubleshoot. The power was restored two hours after our arrival and all was well from that point on.
The cleanliness of the house cannot be underestimated--it was superb, and I am very picky! We cooked great meals in the well-equipped kitchen and appreciated the high-quality linens in the bath and bedrooms. There are supplies for laundry as well. Art work throughout the house is so lovely.
Don't miss the history museum and gift shop as well as the general store, hiking trails, and bike trail. All fabulous! Thanks to Diane and John for doing such an outstanding job on creating this amazing retreat!
