excellent breakfast and location, friendly staff.
window in my room was a bit tired
4.0
Quiet and convenient location with good parking for 2 nights. I’ve enjoyed staying here on previous occasions but this time was a disappointment.
The chef booked me in at 22:30. He said he was covering staff shortages and had been on duty since 7am. He couldn’t find a record of my companion’s booking for the following day. As stated in other reviews there was no mattress covering apart from the sheet so I slept on the duvet to make the bed comfortable. The hand towel rail fell off the wall. There was no breakfast served on day 1. A male cleaner said there had been no food delivery. When my companion arrived mid afternoon, they still had no record of her booking. They wanted her to come back in the evening. She had confirmation and gave them an hour to prepare the room. The room that had not been cleaned, but the next room was lovely. I spoke about my disappointment over breakfast and was told it was due to staff shortages and I would be compensated. We were promised breakfast in the morning. The place was deserted so I left a note asking them to call. No call so I rang. It turns out the don’t serve breakfast on Monday/Tuesday so why the charade?

Nice welcoming ‘pub’, clean modern room. Lovely food, good coffee. Quiet at night.
The fire smoked, obviously an ongoing issue as soot all around the fire place, but could even smell it in our room when it had been lit again the following morning. All my clothes and hair smelt like id been sat next to an outdoor firepit. Shame as my only negative about our stay.

Location was what I required
Bed was very comfy, pillows and quilt all good
Room was lovely and warm on a cold, frosty December night.
The shower was poor, not enough flow / shower head holes not at capacity.
I did not have a good meal, batter soggy on fish.

Position, quite close to our destination,
Staff friendly and helpful.
Clean and comfortable room.
Bar is a bit oldie-world and quirky, which we loved
Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. No juices or cereals to choose from.
Fried breakfast was a bit overcooked and dry.
8.0
comfortable bed, excellent food and good ale
shower could have drained a bit faster
8.0
Excellent food, comfortable rooms and beds, nice quiet location, polite and cheerful staff
Shower doors prone to just coming off, lack of shower gel

Staff were friendly and we were madewelcome
The food was tasty BUT the potato was the size of a scallop not enough to keep a child sustained let alone an adult

- Exceptionally helpful staff
- Beautiful setting
- One of the best Sunday lunches I’ve eaten
- Comfortable beds
- Clean and tidy property
- Vegetarian options on a Sunday could be better
- Rooms were warm
It is worth noting that the staff were aware of both of these possible improvements and did everything they could to address
It at the time. Our vegetarian guest was given a very nice lunch, and windows in all rooms were opened well in advance of our arrival.

Was offered a free upgrade when a fan wasn't available on request
The music was a bit irritating earlier in the afternoon but improved later in evening

Location. Rooms clean. Breakfast was good
Staff more interested in watching rugby and cricket on their iPad that sat on the bar than the guests. One room of three still occupied when we arrived but we were upgraded which was appreciated. Only upgraded room had water provided

This is the only pub in close proximity to Wormsley Estate and Garsington Opera - in fact just over mile to the entrance.
The bar and restaurant were very modern with subtle decor giving a good energy
However I must say it was one of the best breakfasts in a pub we have experienced and we commended the chef directly. There was fresh fruit cereal and yoghurt sourced from Devon and the scrambled egg and and smoked salmon was absolutely superb. The chef is very particular about his suppliers and it is apparent from smoked salmon as it has no fat lines often a sign the salmon are caged. The fresh apple juice was much appreciated
The pub is also restaurant with rooms. We had a standard double room, one of seven, which was very basic, and it did not reflect how it appeared on the internet. When we reserved last November 2022 we were informed that we fortunate to have booked early as their prices were going up 2023 as the rooms were being renovated. In fact we paid under £200 for two nights with breakfast included. We can say the room with a superb breakfast in its current state we would have been happy to pay £120 but no way, without renovation £130 for the room and £15 per person for breakfast as is the current price. There was no mattress protector and the sheet was directly on the mattress. The duvet, not only was it too short all round but full of heavy obviously low quality synthetic fibre. We also discussed with day staff that the refrigerator was not working, the safe was in locked position open and bedside lamp was not working. It was not a real issue with us but it does reflect there is no check system when room is cleaned.
The day staff were quite junior but we felt they were detached from the accommodation side of the pub.
Ollie was there when we arrived and was very helpful but after that there was no managerial leadership up until the time we left and considering there are on the ground floor another five rooms which have been renovated to a very high standard but are now £230 with breakfast included - it is again an excessive amount
We accept that the price we paid for a standard double room was very reasonable but we would not return to a unrenovated standard room at £160 with breakfast included

The man who checked us in was very nice and friendly. Clearly explained how to get in if the main door was locked.
Breakfast was expensive with small servings.
9.0
The bedroom was very attractive, with a view over neighbouring fields. No noise during the night and only birds in the morning. Bathroom carefully designed.
Breakfast was well cooked.
The hotel is just a few steps away from a footpath which links in with the Chiltern Way and other networks for walkers.
The writing table in the room was rather too small.
The staff were excellent, but seemed worked off their feet.
Overall, a trifle pricey.
8.0
Comfortable bed, reasonable facilities including tea/coffee in the room.
Breakfast was disappointing: only sourdough bread/toast offered. English breakfast could have been nicer: bacon was like cardboard.

Great friendly staff good food lovely pub!
Nothing

Lovely clean room with all the facilities you need, good size ensuite. Very peaceful with a lovely view, breakfast was very nice in the downstairs bar, staff were friendly and made you feel welcome.
Unfortunately when I was staying there was no electricity for one day and roads were closed due to the works but that was no fault of the venue, it just made it a bit awkward getting ready for a wedding.

Very comfortable room, lovely bed! The staff were very helpful especially as there was a jazz band playing, and it was very busy!

Staff were great.
Price of drinks too high. Pint of bitter and 175 glas of wine £15.
Drink price .we went elsewhere.

Lovely staff, they couldn't do any more for you.
My only gripe is the menu, very limited and slightly overpriced for what was on offer.
5.0
Excellent location. Nice pub too.
Only had 1 set of towels- none available. Shower drain was blocked so feet bathed in other peoples hairs etc.
very stingy with coffee/ tea making facilities. Kettle too big to fill from wash basin. Tiny basic room- clean enough but functional at best.

Perfect position for getting to Garsington opera! Very comfortable and was lovely having a cup of tea at the edge of a wheat field with great views!
Bedside lights didn’t work - but not z as big problem!

incredible personal touch with exceptionally warm and hospitable staff who served us food at times outside of restaurant opening and helped us with taxis and other info.
nothing, all excellent.

Friendly, attentive staff, excellent food including breakfast. Ideally located if you come for walking in fabulous scenery. Great walks from the door of the Fox.

Lovely place and possibly the nicest breakfast I've had in some time, clearly fresh ingredients snd cooked to order. We arrived late in the evening but we're welcomed and had great chat with Dan who is a fellow biker. I would 100% recommend and would stay again.
Bed was rock hard - which my friend loved but I was a little uncomfortable. Aside from that it was great.
9.0
Breakfast was fine - had a full english, which was presented in an upmarket way, and included in the room price ( otherwise £18)
The staff were very attentive, parking was easy - room for perhaps 15-20 vehicles in the car park.
Location is rural - although not far from the M40. Our room (15) looked out over open fields.
Room was very clean - shower room was spotless.
Wood fire in the bar.
Very comfortable bed :)
Old and characterful main building - the rooms are of a modern design.
Hard to fault it really.
Bar is quite noisy when busy ( although we could hear nothing in the room which was in a separate wing).
Food is rather on the expensive side, but very good.
They were having a bit of trouble with the fire flue - a little smoke came back into the bar, so we went to bed smelling vaguely of wood smoke, but who cares - such a minor thing, and not really a 'dislike'.

The staff and owner were welcoming, helpful and polite. Great customer service and very kind and patient with my dogs. Food was fantastic - fabulous flavours and cooked to perfection; both fish on Saturday evening and the Sunday roast were sublime. Restaurant and bar area is lovely and outside areas very attractive and comfortable. Amazing countryside, nature and wildlife all around. I had a great stay and will return. Thankyou for making me so comfortable and welcome.
