Richard, der Besitzer, ist eine Seele von Mensch und wirklich daran interessiert, dass man einen angenehmen Aufenthalt hat. Er war immer hilfsbereit, wenn man ein Taxi brauchte, welche Ausflüge empfehlenswert sind, bei welchem Veranstalter man am besten buchen sollte oder wo man gut essen kann. Das war sehr, sehr hilfreich. Ich habe mich sehr wohl gefühlt. Ich muss sagen, dass ich ein ruhiges Plätzchen gesucht habe. Wer Hully Gully sucht, sollte in Down Town Bocas del Toro buchen. Das Anwesen selbst gleicht einem kleinen Park und ist nur 50 Meter vom Strand entfernt. Man ist mitten im Grünen. Ein Pool rundet das Wohlbefinden ab. Entspannung pur. Ich kann diesen Ort mit Richard als Gastgeber nur wärmstens empfehlen!

A bit far from town, so a taxi or comfortable shoes are needed if you do not rent a bike, scooter, ATV, etc. No TV, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

We loved our stay so much that we extended it by 4 nights . Richard is a perfect and very kind host with great information on the sights to see. His property is immaculate , crisp white linen , fabulous hot shower and rooms are spacious and very clean . Our room had a patio area with couch and hammock . Richard makes a superb breakfast if you choose this option . His friendly dog Sombra was delightful, as is the curious cat .
The pool was pristine and cool surrounded by palms . The beach is just over the road and you can hear the waves as you fall asleep .
It’s a little bit out of the town but we found this ideal as it’s quiet and you get to see and hear the howler monkeys around you.
The local taxis are only $1-2 per person to Sol y sombra . We would choose to walk a short distance to take the cheaper $1 fare . It’s close to the bus to starfish beach which was a favourite trip of ours and even saw two sloth on the walk thru to the beach.
I highly recommend this accommodation and the price was good value compared to other nearby properties.

Lovely and clean room with a nice pool area to lie out. Getting a taxi to town was only $2 dollars or just $1 with a short walk. Incredibly kind host and lovely dog!

Very nice and super helpful host. We also liked Sombra the dog, and the location was really nice. Our room was clean and quite big.
After being in a horrible accommodation before, this felt like coming home to a friendly and welcoming environment.

I cannot recommend Sol y Sombra enough. We loved our stay with Richard, who was an amazing host. Our room was spacious, clean and stylish, with a fab shower. The pool area and breakfast were great, and Richard helped us with any recommendations. We wanted somewhere near the beach and away from the noise so this place was perfect. It's a 10 minute drive away from Bocas Town, which cost $1 each way, so wasn't a problem to go into town for evening meals. This place made our stay in Bocas very special, thank you very much!

Richard is a very nice and friendly host, he knows everything about the island and will give you the best advice whatever your question is. My room was very big, with a huge king size bed and super clean. It's not in the centre but if you walk a few meters you will find a taxi to go into town . The location for me was perfect because from there you will easily visit the beaches of the island. Also, if you prefer to stay close by, there is a beach right in front of the hotel.

I am not really sure how to describe this wonderful place. But I'll try. We stayed for 8 nights and experienced next level relaxation featuring monkeys, sloths, all kinds of birds... we felt like in an animal documentary narrated by David Attenborough. And then there is Richard with Sombra the dog and Puntito the cat. He is an incredible host who not only provides a rich breakfast including delicious pancakes, but is also great to talk to. He helped us out a lot with tips around Bocas. The location is a tiny bit remote which is perfect if you're looking for something more quiet, away from the constant noise in Bocas Town. The only things you can hear at Sol y Sombra at night are waves breaking down on the nearby shore and calming jungle sounds. Just like those sound samples you can listen to, but you're in the middle of it. Also, it's not hard to get into town, as small busses and taxis drive by quite often. For our first trip to Panama, this was just perfect. Thank you, Richard and the lovely folks & pets at Sol y Sombra! El sol va sali.

Lovely big room with comfortable bed and sofa. Clean pool. Hot powerful water in the shower. Great breakfast. Perfect host who’s helpful and goes above and beyond. We liked the location, we walked to Bluff beach, got the collectivo nearby to go to Starfish beach and it was only $2 each into town.

The location is perfect - a few km away from the noise and parties of Bocas town, but close enough for easy access to beaches, ferry, restaurants etc.
The room was spacious and comfortable. There is also a pool, gardens and communal terrace.
Best of all though was Richard, the host. He was he kind and helpful throughout, fun to chat with, & full of helpful advice and tips. He was also very attentive to the small details that made the stay so special ... from his personalised breakfasts, to the handy torch attached to the keys, we felt well looked after. Our first night of the stay was Christmas day 2022, and Richard offered to make a dinner booking for us in town - we ended up with the best table at a fabulous restaurant, which turned out to be one of our trip highlights!

The location was perfect for us! We rented bikes nearby which makes it easy to bike to town or the beautiful Bluff beach. The host is extremely friendly as has great tips for restaurants. Also a big plus: it was calm, clean and the bed is big!! Next time we will stay longer!

We loved staying here for our one night as a stopover. Richard was an incredible host, providing us with tips for restaurants and activities for our day there and the place was outside of the main town of bocas so it was nice and peaceful. The rooms were also very comfortable. We opted in for breakfast the next day and we did not regret it, it was amazing! You can just tell how much Richard enjoys having guests around and I’d recommend this place to everyone. Sombra the dog was also a great host!

This is an amazing place with a wonderful host. We feel so lucky we found Sol y Sambra. Amazing rooms, pool, garden, animals, and lovely guests. It is a small hotel so it feels like home with a small number of friends and family - just what we hoped for.

Great location, just a 2USD taxi ride away from the village or a resaurant . Nice and quiet, lovely swimming pool, spotting for animals in the garden (birds, sloths and monkeys!). Richard is the perfect host. Taking care of your needs, always being around in a subtle and polite way withouth imposing. Thanks for your good care en nice advice about trips on the islands and restaurants. We had a lovely gardenview room, comfy with a nice big bed and a hammock to chill in the afternoon. Lovely breakfast, the best dog ever to play with. What else do you need?

A large lovely home with beautiful gardens and a pool just across from a fantastic water view. Perfect location just 7 minutes from Bocas commercial center, but completely removed from that noise and crowds. But best part here is the host, Richard, who is multi- lingual and makes you a fresh and perfect breakfast each morning. He is also very kind and informative about places to go and things to do on the islands. He made us feel welcome immediately and throughout our stay. And finally, Sombra, the host’s sweet and charming pet dog made us feel like part of the family!
Everything was very nice. We enjoyed just sitting on the upstairs terrace after breakfast just soaking in the lovely tropical gardens and water views, as Richard, our host, pointed out all the cool monkeys, sloths, lizards that live on the property too.

We really enjoyed our stay at Sol y Sombra. The garden is beautiful and the sounds you can hear there are relaxing and calming. The breakfast was just amazing!

Awesome Breakfast and an outstanding Customer service by the Staff and Richard!
I was able to check in much earlier than possible due to my early arrival.
On the day of departure, I was able to leave my luggage on site and spend the whole day on the beautiful grounds.
Sometimes during the day it can get a bit noisy because of the street right in front.

It was ok but we wouldnt book it again. really surprised about the great reviews. However, the people running it are super nice and helpful. And the is a sweet dog. They were also able to accomodate us by serving breakfast at 7.30 instead of at 8am.
depending on where your room is you might have people/your neighbors passing back and forth in front of your window a lot. the terrace has no privacy (but i guess you can see that on the photos). We thought that the breakfast was very basic (ready mix pancakes, bread, jam, cornflakes, juice) they offered omlette but we didnt like it so much. there is no room service, after two days the emptied the trash can and put new toiletpaper. and afterwards we had a salamander and lots of insects in the room as well. We are also 80% sure that we contracted scabies from the sofa in the room, which we never dealt with before! The location is ok. Would definitely recommend a place that offers complenantary bikes. Renting a bike in bocas is quite expensive, and the cab service is soo unreliable.

Highly recommended- we stayed 5 days at Sol Y Sombra and had a great time!
The rooms are clean, the host Richard (and his lovely dog Sombra :)) were really keen to make this stay as perfect as possible. The daily breakfast with all other guests was really good, including fresh fruit, pancakes, eggs..
Also the location was great as it was super quiet, however the town of Bocas is just max. 10min by taxi away (2€pp).

Sol y Sombra is a very beautiful house and it has big, clean and modern rooms with big windows. We enjoyed the beautiful garden, the pool and the beach which is only 50m away.

The hotel is very beautiful. Rooms are neat, spacious and just a few steps from the pool. You can see monkeys and sloths from the garden if ur lucky ;). the owner is very friendly and pancakes at breakfast are absolutely amazing. I which we could have stayed longer!
