Great location right on the beach. There are boats in front of the hotel but less than 100m along its clear. Very safe for swimming. Very good security

Spacious room. Great breakfast selection. Lovely staff. Always water in my room and they came every evening to bug spray, close curtains and put the mosquito net down. Lovely place and the beach/surroundings are beautiful too.
No complaints at all

Direct beach access, nice property, good food and authentic african live music (on some days).
Room was a bit smelling strange. Mattresses need to be replaced (are already ordered by the owner he promised).

We had a very nice time in Hebe lodge. Very cozy and comfortable place , nice atmosphere, stuff were always so helpful and attentive, all food we tried was very fresh and delicious, nice cocktails and breakfast. Located in front of the beach. We also booked a tour with a hotel, was well organized. Owner and stuff of the hotel are very friendly and approachable. Highly recommend!

Location on the beach, clean bungalow
Bathroom was a bit dump and shower head loose, also room quite dark but that didn't bother me because wasn't in day time

Hebe Bungalows Lodge is a small lodging in authentic building style and cute rooms located directly at the beautiful beach of Matemwe Kigomani with a grately courtious and young Team and a very good restaurant in addition. As it is located on the east-coast you will have stunning sunrises and the location is perfect for doing organised water activities (like snorkelling next to Mnemba Island or diving) and for doing day trips to (for example to Stone Town, Prison Island and a spice farm)
Special thanks to: the best and friendliest Service-Team (Veronika, Sada and many more), to Juzuf for the best fresh Ginger Tea, to Saidi and the other dancing kitchen boys and girls for the best Live-Music-Dancing-Session in the evenings and the best cuisine, to the cleaning ladies who kept our room clean an free of any mosquitos and of course to Peter an Herman for Organization and Support! If you have problems with health issues, ask them, they will help you get appropriate health care.
We liked everything about our stay. But one hast to be aware of 2 things:
1) excessive Luxus of the tourists at one side and poverty of locals on the other side meet here. If you are open for and interested in other cultures, religions and in watching the local people, watching the fishers (Fischmarkt nearby) doing there work, than you are right here. But you have to be aware that there are plenty of friendly (but also sometimes pushy) sellers and locals who try to make money for their living and there families. The beach is the working place of fishers and sellers. If you wanna do sunbathing all day and don’t get interrupted from locals far away from any other people and cultures this is not the right place for you. The beach is for everyone. Even for the cows. Also you will here the prayer call of the mosque nearby a few times per day. There are no fixed prices, you have to bargain everywhere.
2) when we stayed there in September there was mostly low tide (ebb) during the day, but the water rises in the evening, so that you could go for swimming in the evening or mornings. You definitely need riff shoes because of sea urchings. If you forgot yours, the lodge do borrow you theirs.

Stunning, everything was amazing. The owner was incredibly nice to us and the staff went out of their way to help us. The food at the restaurant was delicious. By far the best place we stayed in Zanzibar. Would recommend 10/10.
Nothing. It was perfect.

Really lovely place directly on the beach. The staff are outstanding, so friendly and helpful. Herman the manager is very helpful and attentive as is Peter the owner. They will help you organise trips.
Breakfast is lovely and the restaurant is excellent. They even made a lovely cake for my husbands birthday! Thank you to all at Hebe.

nice and clean hotel, great breakfast
On the beach, when the tide is out. Unfortunately, directly at the local fish market which isn’t pleasant.

It is located near a small village. the beach is in front of the hotel, it isn’t the best place to swim but it is the perfect place to see local life of the village people and the fish market. Great staff, very kind, friendly and helpful. The breakfast is delicious and very large. If you book the dinner, you can eat a dish (starter or main course) at lunch and the other at dinner. The food is very good! The room is very nice and big!

The place was amazing, the hotel was really authentic and I really liked the vibe. It’s perfect for solo travellers and families as well. The staff was extremely kind and friendly. The bungalows were clean and they provided all the necessary amenities for a perfect and comfortable stay. The breakfast and the dishes were exceeded my expectations, everything was really delicious. Absolutely can recommend HEBE Bungalows and hope I can come back one day!

The location of HEBE was perfect - a step away from the beach and the owners were incredibly friendly. Beautiful location, the included breakfast was delicious, and staff was accommodating and kind.

A beautiful and charming place where you can calm down and relax from everyday life.
The food is delicious in the restaurant. From seafood, pizza, salads (I especially recommend the calamari salad), chicken to local Zanzibar dishes.
The rooms are African style and that's what I meant when I came to Africa. Everything very tastefully decorated.
And of course, Piotr, who runs the hotel, is full of energy, helpful in every matter, and a very nice person.
I truly recommend this place. An oasis of relaxation and tranquility.

- food is excelent
- clean
- friendly staff
- quiet resort for couples and meditation
- for a holiday with children, location is a bit too quiet/boring
- no pool
- rural experience not satisfying, area is very wild and "local vibe" can be too much...
- morning praying is too loud

HEBE is a small and intimate property with a friendly staff and owner. It definitely felt really homey and comfortable and I appreciated the little details they made an effort on (e.g the towel designs on the beds, spraying the rooms with repellent in the evenings and setting up the mosquito nets on the beds). Additionally, I appreciated that we were allowed a flexible (and smooth) check in and check out process.
This is not necessarily the fault of the property and more a function of the property’s location, but the ocean tides during a lot of the day are surprisingly low, so not a lot of ocean swimming can realistically happen. And when the tide was somewhat high-ish (usually in the early mornings at around 7 am), we realized that there were a lot of sea urchins (!) in the water on HEBE’s beach, meaning we didn’t really get to go in the ocean around HEBE. If possible, HEBE should invest in building a swimming pool that guests can use in lieu of swimming in the ocean.

Great look for this lodge outside and inside the rooms, the design is based on local materials and techniques (exp braided palm roofs), fine white sand on the ground... blends in perfectly into the environment!
Very good restaurant with local dishes.
6.0 / 10.0
The staff at the restaurant was very friendly, rooms were clean and really pretty. The whole hotel is appealing and has direct access the the beach.
The food in the restaurant was delicious.
The location of the lodge has some disadvantages: first the lodge is situated right next to a mosque which woke us up every early morning/ late night for the first prayer (we are aware that Zanzibar is a muslim island but the mosque is literally in front of the gate so it's unreasonably loud). Impossible to have a calm relaxing sleep. Second the infrastructure to reach the lodge is really poor. It takes a while to reach all other sites of the Island as the lodge is remote.
If you pay by card (which is obvious considering the prices of the hotel, trips etc), the lodge automatically added 3% to cover their own local bank fees (in addition to the fees of our home bank), so we paid double fees.

Great location - we read enjoyed being on a beach where so much was going on and with a friendly village behind it. The local fishermen sold fish on the beach as soon as the boats came in, cows came past and children played. Really idyllic.
Great restaurant, fantastic balcony and spacious family suite (overlooking the beach).
We knew about the nearby mosque and the 5 am call to prayer was reasonably short most days but one day ( a Tuesday) it was an hour long.
6.0 / 10.0
- Well positioned close to Pnemba
- Authentic location next to fishermen
- Broken mattress not confortable
- Noisy location due to proximity to the village’s Mosque
- Dysfunctioning ceiling fan
- No bed mosquito net
- Clogged shower

it is quite and peaceful a good place to be in nature , nice staff and the owner was their for any help we needed
the bed and mattress is not that much comfortable , it would be better to have a normal bed and a good mattress. the owner asked to for the staff to change the mattress but we didn’t want to bother for 1 night

The place is wonderful, our deluxe room had a really beautiful view of the ocean and it was next level of what we have experienced previously in Zanzibar. Traditional rooms, but with nice facilities. We appreciated the small details, toiletries, coffee machine with everything needed and the most important for Zanzibar, the water and the fridge.
Everyday there was someone coming with a bugspray for avoiding mosquitos, but I think in Africa is hard to avoid all the bugs in the room. The restaurant was very nice and the drinks&food great, the only downside was that sometimes was cooked in a way, other time in another way, but delicious. There’s private beach with few sunbeds and chairs and our dog friend Kongo, who enjoys swimming in the ocean waves. Local people were often meeting for the fish market on the beach in front of the restaurant and you could take part of an interesting custom of theirs.
If we return to Zanzibar, we would totally come back to Hebe Bungalows.
The drainage system in the bathroom was clogged and bugs were sometimes coming in from the pipes after the water was slowly draining (it’s understandable for Africa, but worth taking a look into this). Also we didn’t get the breakfast to go in our last day as the owner arranged because the chef forgot about it, not uncommon for staff around Zanzibar to forget to take care of the customers.
Just a thing that might make the place perfect would be a pool - maybe in the future - as sometimes the ocean is going far on low tide and it would be wonderful to have a place to relax in the meantime.
