About this apartment rental
Location:
This Historic seven bedroom loft is ideally located overlooking Everett Street as well as the Tuckasegee River, in the heart of Bryson City. Built in 1895, at nearly 130 years old, this building has seen floods (1916 & 1940), fire (1950) and blizzards, but has stood the test of time as one of the oldest remaining structures in downtown Bryson City. The Kephart gets its name from America's Greatest Outdoors-Man, Horace Kephart. After writing Our Southern Highlanders, Kephart returned from Appalachia to continue working in Bryson City, and The Kephart served as the Bryson City Den for the World Famous Author, as he continued to pen his later works. Not wanting to stray too far from the Downtown action he wrote about, but maintain a close proximity to his beloved Great Smoky Mountains (The National Park he helped create), Kephart found that 60 Everett Street provided the perfect location on the river, next to the town square and courthouse (Swain County Historical Museum), within two miles to his favorite campsite (The Bryson Place) at The Deep Creek entrance to the Smoky Mountains National Park. With a convenient downtown location, The Kephart is the perfect base camp for travelers looking to be in the center of activities while creating their own memories within one of Bryson City's most storied structures! Grab a coffee at one of our quaint neighborhood Coffee Houses, or stroll over to one of our local breweries to enjoy some regional libations! At The Kephart, you are just steps away from the all the amazing shopping and dining that Downtown Bryson City has to offer.
Access Road:
Motorcycle and Mini Cooper Friendly, Smooth Road all the way to Cabin, no Sharp Switchbacks and a Moderate Incline.
Exterior:
One of the best features of this property is the large private courtyard that sits overlooking the beautiful Tuckaseegee River! Enjoy delicious dining on the outside patio table, or kick back and relax by the gas log fire pit as you listen to the river flow past you under the shade of the gazebo. The uniqueness and seclusion of this courtyard will surely have you feeling like you are in your very own private oasis!
Entry Level:
A short set of stairs will lead you up from the courtyard to the entry way of The Kephart. This loft is a single level property that sits on the second level of the building above the popular Everett Street shops below. Walking through the door you are warmly welcomed into this chic and sophisticated downtown loft. There are seven bedrooms and three bathrooms in total. The bedrooms are found along the parameter of this property with varying bed sizes: Four queen size beds, Two king size beds, and One with two twin size beds. There is a large living room and kitchen that sit central to this property with lots of beautiful windows that display views of downtown Bryson City. There is one master suite with a king size bed and private bath in this loft. Sit back and watch the large flat screen TV that hangs in the living room, or grab a book and curl up in one of the reading nooks. You are sure to find everything you want and more when you visit The Kephart.

We had a birthday for my sister and brought her family and some of her friends up to Bryson city for their first trip to ride the train. We absolutely fell in love with the place and how convenient it is to everything in Bryson city literally being just a few blocks away walking we will literally be rebooking this again for later in the year for fall trip.
6-Star review!

Overall I would the condo 3 out of 5.
Usually I start with the good points about where I stay but I'm going to lead off with the bad as they left a negative impression with me. The rest of my family that stayed were not as put off as I was.
The bad:
There was no Internet. At all. This was a major reason for starying town instead of out in the countryside. Everyone wants to be connected including myself. I pay for my cell phone data as I use it while the rest of my party have unlimited data plans. So when the condo listed Wi-Fi as the first essential amenity I was rather upset that there was none. After several calls to the host and rebooting the modem I was informed a service ticket would be created. After returning home and placing another call to the host I was told that since they don't charge extra for the Wi-Fi they would not offer any form of refund. So beware if Wi-Fi is essential to you it may not be available here.
Bathroom 1: door was broken and the door would not stay closed. The toilet and sink were not secured and would wobble. The other bathroom had little to no water pressure in the sinks.
The good: In town/close to everything. Unit was clean but was slightly more worn looking than the photos lead yourto believe. The beds and linens were clean and there were plenty to go around all the bedrooms. Could have had more toilet paper in the bathrooms as we ran out and just bought more at the grocery store Everything worked as expected except as noted above.

Here’s the truth…the house has been “rode hard” and is in need of some repair, but it’s a fantastic, large layout with an ideal location and lovely outdoor spaces. Main area is perfect for a larger group. Bedrooms are lackluster, but bathrooms are nicely done. Walking to town anytime you want is wonderful. Overlooking Main Street or the river your morning coffee is fabulous. And price makes sense for the accommodations. We will be back.

Great location to explore Bryson City and Smoky adventures

Everyone had a great time! The house was perfect and close to everything down town! We truly enjoyed our stay!

The Kephart was very nice and had plenty of room for our large family. Location was very convenient, we were able to walk to stores and restaurants.

This is our second time staying in this house. It is very beautiful close to everything in town. Can’t wait to come back.

This property was perfect for our group to all meet and get-away for a few days to enjoy some fun times golfing. The river views were amazing and the huge living room area were great for everyone to enjoy their space. Each person was able to have their own private room to enjoy each night as well, which is what really sold us on this location. The customer service was excellent for the entire booking and provided great instructions on the property during the stay. The only thing that we were a bit disappointed with (which kept us from making it 5 stars) was the outside patio area looked much better in the pictures than in person. It needs a little bit of maintenance to improve the appearance and I believe it would impress much better. The patio landscape was overgrown, area needs some cleaning up & repairs, and their were several loose bricks at the end of the stairs that need to be better placed or secured. Also, several restaurants & businesses in the town shutdown around 7pm so it was very limited as to what was available for a decent meal or things to do nearby in the evenings.
However, these are in our opinion minor issues and did not negatively impact our stay. This is still a great rental that provides plenty of room for a large group and you will not be disappointed with the gorgeous and relaxing river views. We are already planning for our trip next year at this location!!!

The house was just as it was described; the location was great! The shower in the master bedroom was Great! We enjoyed our stay! Thank you!

We usually rent a cabin close to town for our annual polar express trip. This year I decided to see how we liked staying in town….. we loved it! Walking distance to everything was a plus! We will stay again!
4.7
The home is very rustic, great location, large open living areas for family games and dining. Relaxing on the back deck overlooking the river and the private courtyard was a plus, however the pictures on the site are outdated. The home needs maintenance attention to include some safety issues, replacement of broken furniture and broken kitchen items, and deeper cleaning in some areas. With these items repaired or replaced we would stay here again.

Plenty of room and easy walk to town

Loved the space, loved the location, loved the vibe of the old building! Worked well for a large group! Lots of room to spread out!!
Could use some maintenance items completed but overall a great value and great unit!

Place is in great condition for an old building. Park and walk to anywhere you want to go in Bryson City. We sat on the porch over looking the water and listened to the live music at the brewery across the way. (Music can not be heard inside) No complaints!
4.7
The Kephart was a fantastic property with more than enough room to accommodate our family of 12. The space is so unique with the most convenient access to restaurants and shopping. We especially enjoyed the porch overlooking the river. Keep in mind the building is very old so we had to be careful with doorknobs, etc. We had one that fell off in one of the bathrooms when trying to turn the knob but it was easily replaceable and not an issue at all. It was also very quiet even though it’s located directly above the shops. We had an excellent trip and would definitely be interested in renting this property again.

Huge place, great location, comfy beds
Perfect location, huge place, inside was great, comfy beds, plenty of space to spread out. Nice porches for sitting out, overlooking the river. Great central location. Courtyard area could have used a clean up some loose pavers at bottom of stairs need fixing.(tripping hazard) Communication early on with the owner was fine but about a month before check in I had a couple of basic questions and I received no corrispondence..Finally reached someone at the management company to get my questions answered a couple days before the trip but that shouldn’t have been.

First of all. We had a great!!! time. Huge open area which was great for the kids we had with us. Lots of bedrooms which accommodated our party of 11 (4 different families). The porch over the river was awesome, spent a lot of time there. The location is the best part, there is an entrance onto the street from the house with shopping, museums, GSM railroad, restaurants and breweries within walking distance. We would definitely stay here again. A few changes would make it 5 stars. The bedrooms closest to the courtyard were very cold. Maybe an electric heater in those rooms would help. Next time would pack extra blankets. The outside fire pit and the inside fire place ran out of gas while we were there....not a big deal but it was neat to have a fire when we could. The Keurig in the kitchen didn't work well....a 50 dollar replacement would do the trick. Also the front bedrooms by the street are very bright at night, and the blinds were dated/broken. Replacing these would make the stay more positive. Lastly the TV was streaming only and the internet went down. Basic cable would be awesome. We weren't there to watch TV but it was playoff football time and we had a snow day where the town was pretty much closed. Again...none of these things were a big deal. We still would definitely recommend this location and we will likely stay here again. Just making some recommendations for future stays. Thanks! We had a great time.
