About this bed and breakfast
This Downstairs Home is Pet and Child friendly accommodation with spacious yard and outdoor area close to shops, schools and bus stop. Only 7 minutes drive to CBD and Cairns International airport. Table tennis table, fruit trees and plenty of space. Lots of parking available and have multiple entrances to the home. Wireless Internet available inclusive.

Arrived early evening, host appeared polite on greeting. Went to IGA across road for some food and got bad vibe of area. This was later confirmed by what could only have been a stolen car being thrashed with screeching tyres around the local area, often seen and heard speeding up and slowly cruising past our rental car parked in street. This continued from about 10.30 pm to 2.30 am. Heard host move around through floorboards above and asked to put our car behind fence for safety concerns. Host never replied. Watched out through window for rest of night as local youths regularly walked past. I was also concerned about lack of security in house, with security screen door not locking and no lock on fence gate, and only a flimsy round doorknob lock on entry door. After a sleepless night for both me and another family member, being on holiday for only 1 week first time in 6 years, we left this accommodation at 7.30 am so it would not ruin our entire stay in FNQ. Host never replied to my advice we were leaving after our first night, even though we had booked for 4 nights. Later enquiries about a partial refund for the unused 75% of our paid stay due to reasonable safety and noise concerns were only met with flat refusal and insults from the host and Stayz stating their policy was not to get involved in such negotiations. Later research revealed an article by QLD police stating Manoora was one of the 3 worst crime areas of Cairns. DO NOT STAY HERE.

We stayed for a week and Vera’s had all the amenities required to make our holiday pleasant. Check in was super easy, as was check out. Vera was kind enough to allow an earlier check in as well, which was great.
Only really had two issues during our stay. Surrounding neighbours could get quite noisy at times and some kind of alarm went off every morning at 1am. Some mornings it would go off several times, others only once. Not sure where it was coming from, but it was quite annoying being woken at that hour every day. Otherwise it was a comfortable stay, everything we needed, easy access to the city and surrounds and affordable.

We really enjoyed our stay at Vera property. Vera is a wonderful host. Provided everything, even gave us some delicious fruit from his fruit trees. House was very spacious and had all the amenities. The best part was if we wanted anything Vera was just upstairs to provide us. Very very good house for family stay. Each room had AC and kitchen was also very clean. I would definitely come back if I come to Cairns again. Very centrally located and spacious house. Thanks Vera.

The hosts were lovely sharing oranges and mandarins from their trees on the property, hot water was not in plentiful supply, a hot shower in the morning was difficult to achieve. I had imagined cooking meals but the stove proved very unreliable, the coil elements seemed unable to be controlled and remained extremely hot regardless of where the dial was, very little bench space and I know this is out of the owner’s control but the tiny weeny orange ants ran rampant on the benches, some insect spray would have been handy, we stored everything in the fridge to avoid the ants in our food. The strip of shops across the road proved very handy for take away offering kebabs, fish and chips and pizza. Also out of hosts control were the neighbours and their loud music. Basically paid for what we got, cheap and a bed to sleep in.

My partner and I stayed for a couple of nights. We really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful backyard for our dog. A few shops just across the road. A park with a stream for dogs to have a swim just a minute walk away.
Clean bathroom, kitchen and rooms. And the best pricing.
Would definitely stay again.

The property is spacious, we had two families stayed for four nights and there are plenty of room to accomdate everyone. Vera the host is extremly helpful and friendly. Everything we need is in the house, some maybe benefit from an update or a coat of paint, but for the price we paid we think its excellent vale for money. For people looking for a modern, fancy, spotless clean and new hotel, this place is not the ideal choice, but it will suit groups or familes looking for a economical, convinient place with cooking and laundry facilities.

We weren’t looking for a villa or resort to lounge in so this very simple home was perfect for our needs. Clean sheets, aircon, a bathroom, washing machine and kitchen, with lots of room! The ping pong table was a great bonus and made evenings very fun!

We are basic travellers with basic needs. The Lovely downstairs home basically covered the requirements. There needs some investment into the rooms. Bit of foot traffic noise from upstairs. However if you are looking for a crash pad with a fridge and stove at a standard rate this place will suit.

We had a good time during our stay in the property. The host, Vera, was very easy to communicate with and very helpful. Overall, the property was worth to value of money in terms of the location, the size of the living, dinning, kitchen and all three bedrooms. Thank you.

Vera was a great host. He was was easy to contact whenever we needed something, since he lives upstairs he could help out quickly. Our family stay was enjoyable and would absolutely come back to stay again. Also very affordable for spacious rooms and close to most areas to visit.

We enjoyed our 4 week stay. Vera lives upstairs and is very helpful, you can call on him anytime. He is always very willing to attend to the needs of his guests. The guest area of the house which is downstairs is clean and spacious and has everything you need, including a nice hot shower with plenty of water pressure. An excellent washing machine and Vera has strung a line under cover in case of rain. He also has lines to dry your clothes in the sunshine. There is a lovely outdoor area which is very private just for his guests.
It is a 2 minute walk to the IGA store, bottle, kebab and pizza shops, plus Chinese massage.
The bus stop is across the road.
The Uber service is great, only 5-10 minutes waiting time.
We highly recommend you stay at Vera’s.

Great family friendly house. House has a good sized backyard for your personal use, undercover verandah and table tennis table. There is a piano inside (which the kids loved making lots of noise on) and large TV. House is basic but perfectly sufficient for a budget family holiday. Hosts live upstairs and kindly retrieved the pingpong balls from under the fence (many times!)

Overall had a good experience with our stay. Had good facilities to be able to cook our meals when we were on holiday and had plenty of space which was nice.
All the finishes on the place were not very high quality and the pillows were very hard. There was also a bit of a smell which was probably just the cleaning product used. Overall though it was very good value and a good place to have a base to explore Cairns with a friendly host.

We stayed at this property as a family. It is basic but priced accordingly. The owner is helpful. No off street parking but plenty of street parking. It is a large property. Keep in mind that it is a guest house. Still very reasonable if you book the whole thing. Thank you. We had a great stay.

It’s good for the price and It got everything we need. Vera is very helpful and he dropped us to the airport. Even though he was in upstairs we didn’t see him much. All bedrooms got good air conditioning and fans. We cooked some of our meals and all the required utensils were there. Plenty of storage everywhere in this house. I feel it need bit of cleaning and throw unnecessary things. Overall it’s a good place for the price. Highly recommending.

We stayed on this accomodation for few days. Vera was very nice, accomodating and only a call away when you needed a hand on something. The accomodation has everything you need and only a walk to a close by shops and less than 10 minutes to the strand. Will be staying here again when we go back to Cairns.

It's a very nice accommodation with big lounge room, big TV and big bedrooms. Everything that we need is there, all complete. There's air conditioners and fans. The owner is very nice and friendly. He even offered to pick us up when we arrived late in the midnight and we can stay longer on the day we check out. Check in and check out is really easy. The location is convenient, close to shopping and city area. It's very suitable for family with children or big groups.

We were looking for a three week stay and we didnt want to break the bank doing it. This place was perfect. If you grew up in the 70s or 80s you will feel right at home. Two private fenced yards for the kids. Plenty of airconditioning. Great little layout. Owner lives upstairs, very nice man and only saw him once. Shops across the road for whatever you need. Beats the hell out of paying 2 grand a week for digs

Rented the family accommodation in September 2022; we were a family of 5 with 3 children under 10 visiting from Perth- they are noisy our kids- the fact that we had our space- the kids could run around and be themselves, it was the perfect place; The owner was so nice and would give us our space. The place was nice, it was hot and there were aircon in all rooms. We had an amazing Holiday; the place may seem old fashion for some but for us it was just perfect, vintage, cozy, peaceful, quiet, eco-friendly and since we were from the Mauritian culture, it was like going back to Mauritius because the house, furnitures, the settings, the layout, the plants, the fruits, the yard, the green all were exactly how our house and yard used to be back in Mauritius. It felt familiar, it felt right and it felt like going back in our childhood my husband and I. It is walking distance to a small shopping place and the city was 10 mins away. The location is spot on to access everything quick and easy. Highly recommended
