About this lodge
Located in Chesapeake Bay, this attractive lodge for $215 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. Enjoy all the Eastern shore of Virginia has to offer! Welcome to Messongo Lodge! Listen to the owls & woodpeckers while having a drink by a fire in the screenhouse. Screenhouse is also equipped with gas grill, charcoal grill, & 2 regular size gas burners. Screenhouse= NO BUGS! Watch the deer, turkey and other wildlife in the 20 acre field from the screen house or hot tub of the screened in lodge porch.....(don't forget your binoculars) or enjoy the game on tv from the hot tub if you prefer. Screen-porch = NO BUGS! And your very well behaved 4-legged (and 2 legged) children will love running and playing ball in the spacious yard. In the spring/summer, enjoy the purple martins, hummingbirds, eagles, hawks, butterflies, dragonflies, bats and other winged friends! And if you're really lucky and happen to be staying during a Wallops Island launch...you can view it from the backyard. There are also several boat launches nearby to get you on the bay for fishing, crabbing and clamming, and the Pocomoc sound for a true nature experience. Don't forget your kayak, too! A short drive west will take you to Saxis where you can launch your boat or look for sea glass. 25 minutes east is Chincoteague. See the ponies, check out the birding trails, water park, or book a nature boat ride. Enjoy great restaurants and shop the unique boutiques. 30 minutes south is the quaint town of Onancock where you can enjoy boating/kayaking, shopping, & dining. Located on a very quiet country road, 2 miles away from Sun-Outdoors Campground, the Messongo Lodge sleeps 4 (2 bedrooms with 2 twin beds in each). There is one bathroom with large shower. Washer and dryer in garage. Other amenities include plenty of parking for vehicles and boats, full kitchen, large dining area for food and games, open one-level floor plan, satellite tv and internet. **NEW FOR 2024*** Inquire about the "cottage"...a private sleeping space 25 feet away from the Lodge. An additional nightly fee is charged for this space. This renovated office space resembling a corn-crib has a king bed, climate control & mini fridge. There is no bathroom, tv or internet. Couples traveling with other couples enjoy the separation. ( Owner's vacation home is also on the property, but out of respect for your privacy, and to give you the ultimate experience, they will not be present during your stay.) **Due to the remoteness of the property, wifi may be very spotty & slow** ****No hunting is permitted anywhere on this property****

Really enjoyed this property at the end of our road trip, it was very spacious.
Lovely outdoor cooking and eating area outside. Hot tub was fantastic.
Everything needed was there, a lovely welcome basket.
Owner was very quick with responses to questions.
It felt calm and private. Short drives to shops, Chincoteague and NASA Wallops Island.

My mother lives on the shore about 30 minutes from this rental. We were celebrating her 70th birthday and this rental was perfect. The outdoor screened in area/pavilion was amazing! The property is quiet and inviting. We really enjoyed our stay and the hosts communicated well.

Relaxing and peaceful stay! Check in was a breeze, host was very friendly and fast to respond, property was very clean. Would definitely recommend. Screened in porch with the hot tub was perfect. Also loved the screened in fireplace area with outdoor kitchen. Would stay here again if ever in the area!

I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing this place was. Our family enjoyed every bit of it! The place is about 20ish minutes from everything but that was great the roads to get there were pretty and the scenery around the house was just beautiful. The screened in porch with the hot tub was so nice to relax. Then the additional screened in porch with 2 grills & a fireplace was just wow! We were the first couple to get to stay in the private additional cottage! It had a huge kingsize bed that was plenty room for us with our 2 dogs. We already expressed interest about coming back in the future. Beckie was a great host she was so helpful with my questions ahead of time and during our stay :)

Beautiful property in a secluded part of the Country Side. Conveniently located near enough Chincoteague Island(30 minute drive) without feeling crowded by all the other vacationers. Mosquitoes werent very friendly this time of year but overall our family was very satisfied with our stay. The host was very helpful and very responsive to all communications.

Our first impression of the property was better than expected. That was our entire stay,better than expected. A fantastic property. Very private,close to beach and stores. The hot tub is in an excellent location on the property. This was a family weekend and the screenhouse was fantastic for meals,games and visiting with each other!!! The owners went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and let us borrow their home for a few days. We will definitely go back.

We had the best anniversary weekend away with our 8 month dog on this secluded, serene and beautiful property. The owners welcomed us with a card and welcoming basket, had all the necessities to cook and grill out, a massive yard for Seymour to run around and the outdoor, screened entertainment area was the true highlight…. Grilling, sitting in the Adirondack chairs, fireplace going and enjoying the nature around us… relaxing in every way! The owners even had large crab pots that we steamed shrimp and crab legs from a local seafood market. We made day trips to the Maryland side of Assateague Island and down to Cape Charles beach so that Seymour could experience his first times at the beach and ocean- both about 50 minutes away and well worth the drives along the Eastern Shore. Sharing this for dog owners looking for beach areas that are dog-friendly. We will definitely plan to return and really enjoyed working with Beckie who was wonderful to communicate with—- it’s very evident that she and her husband take extra special care of this property and want visitors to enjoy every moment— we certainly did!

This property is absolutely breathtaking! My husband and I along with our fur baby spent our Thanksgiving here and we are seriously considering making it a new tradition! The lodge had everything one would need to make a Thanksgiving feast! The outdoor fireplace and hot tub allowed us to escape and relax!

A well-maintained retreat complete with all the amenities to make our brief stay very comfortable. The screened kitchen/porch was perfect for a seafood cookout and fireside chats with the teenagers. Plenty of options for places to play board games. Our puppy loved the freedom to run like a race horse in the lovely yard. We didn't know that we liked hot tubs till this weekend. This place was great: very clean, lots of amenities, and on a beautiful, private location. We loved grilling in the screen house and using the hot tub. This was a great place to stay with our dog too, who couldn't get enough of sitting on the screened-in porch. Check-in using the door code was easy and the owners were very communicative. Would definitely love to return.

It was a cute little place, however the shower had worms in it that we had to kill and clean up more than once. The garage had a smell that took our breath away and you had to go into the garage to throw away trash which made the smell come into the rooms. The checking in process was awful. The code they gave us wasn’t working, there was a paper on the door saying if code doesn’t work use key in a lock box, but there was no lock box. I sent them pictures of the bugs and told them of the garage and how there was no lock box and the trouble getting into the house, they responded with “We’re sorry for those things” and that it never happened before.

We just had a wonderful time at the Messongo Lodge. It was just what we were looking for, a quiet place to unwind from the stress of our daily lives. Seat in the screenhouse and relax looking at the gorgeous yard and listening to the birds. Becky is the perfect host. She has taken care of everything. The place is 30 minute drive to the beach (Chincoteague Wildlife Nature Refuge), but that's okay, because it's a nice transition from busy and crowded Chincoteague town to the quiet and gorgeous lodge. We will definitely come back.

We had a wonderful stay! The Messongo Lodge grounds were beautiful with flowering trees and spacious manicured grounds. The Screen House was quite large and well-equipped with gas grills, fireplace, mini bar area, large picnic table and tons of comfy chairs. We fired up spare ribs, steaks, burgers & hotdogs. I found the inside of the lodge to be even nicer than the photos - seemed more spacious, especially with the high ceiling. The bathroom was also larger than expected. The kitchen was well-equipped (one burner was a little whacky and I forgot to report that but no biggie). I was pleased with the nice gift basket that was waiting for us. Just really, everything was well appointed and as expected. The beds could have been bigger but was as advertised. In all, we had a wonderful stay! We went to Chincoteague and Assateague twice a day; took us about 25 minutes each way. We were pleased that this place allowed our four-legged pet and she enjoyed her stay as well! Thank you for providing the little details and extras that made our stay especially nice! Would love to come back again!

Excellent experience. The property is spotless and very well equipped. Great outdoor, quiet setting, great for birdwatching. The outdoor patio and hot tub (both screened) make this house unique.
Beckie and Bill are wonderful hosts, and are clearly passionate and proud of the place. Highly recommended!!!

The perfect get-away that is close to it all!
The Messongo Lodge is a beautiful setting off the beaten path. The grounds were immaculate. The house is well laid out and has literally everything you might need exactly where you need it. We enjoyed the hot tub and screened in kitchen. There was plenty to do within a short drive. It was a wonderful vacation for our family! Our host, Beckie, was extremely gracious and made the entire process easy. Would definitely go back!

The kitchen is well stocked too. The property is perfectly manicured and beautifully lit at night. It is quiet, comfy, cozy, clean and well maintained. The outdoor space definitely makes it seem bigger. There were even extra towels out for the dogs if we needed them and a cot on the screened porch for them to use. It is evident that the owners take great pride in their hospitality and having things just right for you. We will definitely be back!!

The guest house is a converted garage largely set up for hunting, so all the beds were singles. We had no issue with this set up, as the mattresses were very comfortable (even for me and I'm picky about mattresses).
The furnishings were comfortable and the kitchen has a large gas range.
The options for cooking were unlimited, between the kitchen in the house and the gas grill, charcoal grill, wet and dry sinks in the screen house, the cooking setup was impressive.
