About this cabin rental

Whether you're coming for an upstate getaway or to work from home, the Scandi-inspired 'Original Bungalow' is a great choice! Located only 2 hours from NYC, in the Catskills (named one of the 50 best places to travel by Travel+Leisure), Smallwood is a destination in itself: take the canoe or SUPs for a paddle, walk along the lake, waterfall or hike the forest trails. Nearby are Bethel Woods Center for the Arts/Woodstock site, Livingston Manor & cute Delaware River towns. NEW: Level2 EV charging Is 'The Original Bungalow' booked the days you're interested in, or traveling with a bigger group? Check out our other Catkills boutique bungalow, also located in Smallwood (find the listing through our profile). Also see @boutiquerentals_/IG ___________________ This is the most adorable 2 bedroom/1 bath country cabin from the 1940s, updated with a brand new kitchen and bathroom offering vintage charm with modern conveniences. The front door leads into a spacious mudroom which opens up to the combined living/dining room with a dining table, sofa, and lounge chairs centered around the gas fireplace (no need to run out for firewood!). The adjoining fully stocked kitchen features an island with plenty of space to prepare meals. Both bedrooms have laptop-friendly workspaces and fast, reliable internet (200+ Mbps), providing a comfortable work-from-home setup. The deck, overlooking the beautiful woodland garden, features a sofa, two chairs, a picnic table and a Weber gas grill. The deck can be accessed from the kitchen as well as the downstairs bedroom. Right off the deck is a firepit with four comfy Adirondack chairs. The house is as cozy as it is functional. ***Please note that the upstairs bedroom (with a king bed), as well as the shower booth have low ceilings and people over 6 foot tall may find these spaces uncomfortable. *** KITCHEN + DINING The newly remodeled kitchen features a gas stove and compact dishwasher. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to make a meal including a Moccamaster coffee maker, French press, microwave, toaster, and Nutri Ninja blender. We offer our guests coffee, tea, olive oil, and basic spices. The dining table comfortably seats 6 people. Please note that the kitchen and dining room windows do not have curtains/shades. LIVING ROOM Our sofa is super comfy - perfect for cozy movie nights. The smart TV is logged in to Netflix, but you can of course log in to your own streaming service as well. If you want to play content from another device you can use the screen mirroring feature, or our HDMI cables. Please note that the living room windows do not have curtains/shades. BEDROOMS The bedrooms feature a king (primary) and queen bed respectively, both with Allswell 's highly rated hybrid mattress (memory foam and innerspring coils), as well as laptop-friendly workspaces. BATHROOM The roomy bathroom features a brand new shower, and the window faces the backyard. It has been remodeled for a thoroughly modern aesthetic. DECK The deck faces the backyard and a pretty wooded area. It features a gas BBQ, sofa, two lounge chairs, and a dining table. This is the perfect spot to enjoy your meals, sip your coffee or cocktail, read a book, relax, or watch the many birds and deer that frequent the area. We have string lights in the trees to enhance the atmosphere even more on those warm summer nights. FIRE PIT Just off the deck, we have a fire pit with four comfy Adirondack chairs. WASHER/DRYER We have a compact stackable washer and dryer in the kitchen. WORKSPACES The cabin is work-from-home friendly with fast Wi-Fi (200+ Mbps), desks in both bedrooms (one can be adjusted if you prefer to stand), and a printer. WI-FI AND CELL SERVICE Wi-Fi is fast (200+ Mbps) and reliable, and cell service is great - Verizon and AT&T have excellent coverage. We do not know if other networks/operators have the same great service, but if not, we suggest activating wi-fi calling on your phone. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING (LEVEL 2) Power up your electric car right in our driveway with our Level 2 EV charger. This 16 amp/240v charger is compatible with J1772 EVs. Please note that Tesla drivers need to bring their own adapter for charging. WATER The water is safe to drink and tastes great. We have a UV water filter which removes all viruses, bacteria and other microbes. PRIVACY We have neighbors and their houses are visible from the bungalow. Please note that the kitchen and living room windows do not have curtains/shades. CANOE, SUPS, AND INNERTUBES The stay includes complimentary use of a canoe for use on Mountain Lake (starting June/July, we will provide access to nearby White Lake instead), as well as two inflatable Stand-Up Paddleboards (SUPs), and inner tubes for four people with access to several nearby lakes and reservoirs. Life jackets are provided. AIR-CONDITIONING/COOLING The Original Bungalow is the perfect place to be if you want to escape the city heat! In the summertime, we have the smart AC Midea (highly rated, quiet and efficient) installed in both bedrooms. They come with a remote and can also be controlled via your phone. The kitchen and living room area stays fairly cool and the windows and doors can be opened (with screens) for cross ventilation. In addition to summer temperatures not getting as high up in the Catskills, the trees around the house provide a lot of shade in the summertime. We also have an umbrella that can be used on the deck for additional shade. HEATING The bungalow stays warm and cozy in the wintertime! We have smart thermostats that you can adjust to your liking. We also have a gas fireplace in the living room that provides a lot of heat. We have a generator that can be started in case of a longer electricity outage in the wintertime. PETS Two well-behaved and housebroken pets per stay are allowed. Pets left unattended at the cabin must be in a crate or pet carrier. Pets must be on leash when outside and pet waste must be picked up and discarded. GUIDE We share a digital guide with our guests featuring our recommendations on things to do, sights to see, places to eat, and what not to miss. You can check in and out by yourself with our keyless entry. You will be issued an access code for the duration of your stay - no keys to lose or return! The easiest way to reach Mountain Lake Bungalow is by car, but it is possible to go via public transit from the NYC area as well. We’re so happy we picked Mountain Lake Bungalow and Smallwood for our upstate getaway - what a fantastic house and place! The home is beautifully designed, comfortable, and super clean. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could think of and the beds are very comfy - we slept so well. Smallwood is quaint and peaceful and we really enjoyed using their canoe and paddle boards on the lake. The house is conveniently located close to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, several scenic hikes, as well as excellent restaurants and cafes. We can highly recommend Java Coffee Roasting Company, 3575 Kitchen, and The Local Table and Tap. We will definitely be back!
