About this house rental

Have you ever wanted to stay in a genuine Amish home? Now you have your chance. This authentic Amish homestead features a six (6) bedroom home perched on a hill with a beautiful forest including maple, oak, and other hardwoods and rolling green pastures all around. A private spring-fed pond beyond the pastures nestled against the woods is a favorite family amenity with a dock one can fish from or just relax on, as well as a boat available to paddle around in. The spacious covered upper porch overlooking this legacy property and surrounding rolling hills is an idyllic spot to watch the sunset any time of year.
Depending on the season, you may find goats and sheep grazing in the pastures on this quintessential Amish property. And as we harvest the hayfield by horse drawn equipment, at certain times of year you may find the fields in view of the house being cut and put into hay bales. Guests are encouraged to spend time exploring the grounds, strolling around the pond, swinging on the hand-built Amish long-swing and swimming, fishing, boating or simply relaxing at the pond. At the house are generous spaces where one can relax in peace or congregate in groups, such as the front covered porch, the great room common area, or on the back patio.
Inside the house the level of amenities are intentional in order to provide a more authentic Amish lifestyle environment. We contemplated keeping everything exactly as it was built by an Amish family, but after careful consideration we chose to add only a few elements such as outlets for hairdryers, a mobile device charging station, coffee maker, and laundry machines. For the adventurous, the working clothesline is an excellent way to dry your clothes the Amish way. The custom lighting fixtures throughout the house were specifically designed to precisely mimic the gas lights in a typical Amish house. Due to the extreme fire risk for most people unfamiliar with the proper operation of the gas lighting fixtures, we were obliged to modify them for our “English” guests.
Consequently, we installed a minimal amount of electric wiring to accommodate these changes, but take note of the scarcity of the wall outlets throughout. Normally there are no outlets in an Amish home, and for the truly brave we challenge you to set aside your mobile devices, including social media, entertainment and the news during part or all of your stay. As you might expect, there are no TVs, wifi, or other electronic entertainment equipment provided, as we feel that would detract from the legitimacy of your experience. The Amish generally retire for the night shortly after dark and are up at first light, unless of course there is a vigorous card / board game or puzzle activity going (provided). And who knows, you may find yourself choosing to adopt this healthy and invigorating routine! With the profound silence on this backcountry road, however, you may end up sleeping late as well!
The well-known towns of Sugarcreek, Walnut Creek and Berlin in the heart of Amish country are mere minutes away, and the backroads surrounding this country retreat feature many Amish farms and other properties similar to ours. Come for the peace and quiet and enjoy the simple life as a respite away from the city or the busyness of normal life, as well as a place just to unplug for an unforgettable stay experiencing a taste of the Amish way of life.

Our family has come here for a little getaway for the past few summers. We again enjoyed our stay and the time spent at the pond.

The property is beautiful. The lack of safety features is concerning. It is very difficult to enter from the back patio as there is no hand rail up the concrete steps from the drive. There are no grab bars in the showers and the tubs are deep and old with slanted bottoms. This property needs to be tagged as NOT handicap accessible It needed to be listed as what it is. Very misleading for elderly people

Very nice house. A little challenging for two elderly parents to navigate in and out. Enjoyed the beautiful views from the porch and the privacy and serenity. Worked very well for our group of 11.

This was another visit to this beautiful place. Neighbors were friendly. Several "Seniors" walked the neighborhood and met the relative of the home's designer and watched them prepare hay. There were extention cords available for medical equipment. I wanted the young people to experience heating food in the oven/on the stove but, a microwave had been installed and it would not have been worth the "fight" so, I left off this teachable experience. Some young people were "forced to attend but, were ecstatic when they saw the place. They were glad they had the experience. We were "not able" to use the lake and boat...bugs.😔 Air hockey had been added but was difficult to play since one goal was broken. We still had fun with it and the ping pong anyway. Sunrises, sunsets views still spectacular. The young people walked to the neighbors to sit near and visit the sheep. Reisbeck's, The Gospel Shop, Swiss Valley Bulk, The Loose Caboose, Dundee Market, Sweetwater Farmers Market, Ebikes of Holmes County with bike path, Walnut Creek Cheese and Market with 2nd floor Café, were our home away from home visits. Overall? Wonderful, peaceful, lovely, warming, awesome, again💕❣❣❣ Thank you to our hosts. Sorry that we did not get to see you this time around. Wish you well!

Our family stayed for 3 nights , for the occasion of a Celebration of Life for my husband’s brother. There were 17 of us ranging in age from 2 years, to 69 years. We had plenty of space - the house was clean, comfortable, and well-stocked. Communication with the owner was easy ; quick and helpful responses. Staying together in this welcoming family home helped to make our weekend special.

This home was in a quaint and quiet location that was a perfect getaway for our five families meeting up. We had 10 adults and 9 children 4 years and under. There was plenty of space for everyone - big dining table, open living area, finished basement, and of course lots of room in the gorgeous outdoor setting. We enjoyed a fire in the pit, using the row boat and swings, and even a mini polar plunge into the water. The simple amenities were plenty and gave us lots of time to unwind. Our only challenge was rigging up baby monitors without outlets or having to stay in earshot. Overall we’d come back again!

This home, located in a rural Amish community, is spacious and clean with beautiful surroundings! No internet and no TV made our weekend stay a true "unplug and unwind" get-away. My rating of a 4 instead of a 5 is only because we were surprised to see a "no alcohol allowed on the premise" rule listed upon arrival. I think this is something that should be disclosed BEFORE booking, not after you arrive.
