This house is large with lots of rooms for activities. We loved the view of the lake.

Great place for a large group - plenty of space, sitting areas, and lots of tables!

We had a lovely reunion with our 3 children, spouses and 3 grandchildren. There was plenty of space inside and outside. Our original plan was to come in Aug., but due to a medical issue Rebecca let us change to end of September on short notice. Grandma and the 2 little girls were still able to enjoy the sand and water as well as feeding the fish from the dock. Everyone enjoyed the campfires. The furniture now in the 4 season porch works well for sitting and visiting. And no complaints about the new beds!

Our group of 10 adults stayed here for a girls weekend getaway. We chose this property because it had several large seating areas...tables/chairs/couches, etc. It was perfect for the large group. The sun room was nice and a great area to play games and eat meals.
The lake was beautiful and quiet, it was fun to use the kayaks provided and the fire pit was in a great location right by the lake.
A few cons...
Only one coffee filter was in the cabinets, so we had to go into town to buy more. We also bought a corkscrew to open a wine bottle, as we couldn't find one in the kitchen. Might be something to add to your drawers!
Most of the beds were decent, but a few need replacing....just really uncomfortable. A few people opted to sleep on the couches which were more comfortable.
Even with the air conditioner on, it got pretty warm in the upper level. I found a box fan, but it was broken:( Maybe the owner was unaware of this, but I let them know.
A few areas in the house were pretty dusty and dirty.
Not a lot of towels in the house for a group of 10.
The overall layout of the house was odd, lots of stairs and kind of like a maze...it worked for us but might not work well for some.
Lots of thistles on the beach, so couldn't go barefoot!
A few hiccups, but we still had a great weekend. Nice property that just could use a little updating, which I read will be happening soon.
Overall, we had a fun stay here! The owner was very helpful and responded quickly to all messages and questions I had.

We have been coming to this rental property for the last 5 years, and had some challenges this year. There are major cleanliness concerns: the bathrooms hadn't been cleaned (lots of hair in the shower and on the floor when we arrived), the washing machine is broken (won't fill with water) so I'm not sure how clean the bedding was, the area rug under the dining table hadn't been vacuumed (there wasn't a vacuum onsite that we could do it ourselves) and my MIL spent the first full day we were there sweeping floors and cleaning the toilets. We had to purchase and supply our own garbage bags. Many of the sheets and comforters had holes in them. The lack of second refrigerator on the main floor was a challenge in a house that sleeps 10, and we had to make multiple grocery store runs throughout the week instead of just 1 at the start. The fuse in the kitchen tripped every time we attempted to make toast or coffee, which suggests a fire concern. The closet with the fuse box had obviously not been swept in a very long time as the floor was covered in dead bugs. We had to move the coffeemaker and the toaster to the dining room to use. The lack of cable/reliable internet seemed like a downgrade from previous years. We rented the pontoon boat for the week we were there, which was great, but there was no proactive communication from the owner about where to find the key to the boat. The owner did reply immediately to messages throughout the week, and the kayaks were a nice addition that the kids enjoyed. This is a great property and the lakeshore and lake are fantastic. The house itself is starting to show its age and needs some upkeep (beds/bedding, removing thorny weeds from the kids' beach area, ensuring bathroom and outside doors shut and latch) and requires a dedicated cleaning in between guests.

Overall, this property has a lot going for it:
- Location: Just a little way outside the cities on Bass Lake. Close enough to Annandale to go to grocery stores, etc.
- Swimming: Lake is very good. Thankfully, the beach area is well managed, which means there is clear, clean sand all the way out to about 3/4 of the way to the end of the left dock. The right dock is not maintained and has sand, but it is covered in weeds. You can jump off the end of the dock as it is deep enough (though you will hit weeds if you go in deep).
- Fishing: Good overall fishing. We successfully catch a variety of sizes of bass and northerns. There are Crappie as well and the panfish (bluegill/sunfish) is always active. Can catch bass and panfish from the dock.
- Area: Quiet overall and peaceful
- Size: 5 bedrooms in the main cabin and 2 more in the smaller cabin. Plenty of bathrooms and social spaces. Best part is the porch by far. It can be closed off to keep noise down for others who may not want to hear you playing games.
There are some things that are pretty average/expected for this price range:
- Kitchen is adequate if not elaborate
- Central air supplemented by a few stand-alone units
- Wifi (we had no issues with it our entire stay)
The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 are simply because I think there are a few things that are lacking that really should be available at any price:
- Beds leave a lot to be desired. One you will roll over against a wall, one will be super lumpy, one will be stiff as a board. They just aren't good or comfortable.
- Bedding - most of the comforters are very old and have lots of holes in them
- Little things like a broom but no dustpan in the small cabin
- The bathrooms (especially the upstairs) are pretty bad. No towel holders, the doors don't close, etc.
- There are no real comfortable chairs or seating in the porch / dining room. The hardwood chairs could use some cushions
Various other things.
Overall though, for this price, you can't get better. This is a great property with lots of potential. Talking with the owner, I'm confident that they care and listen to feedback. Because of that, I had no hesitation booking again for next year (5th year now at this place). The owner has even communicated some of the updates that will be happening over the offseason which address most of the issues we had.
One note: Make sure you understand the cabin setup if you are just booking the big or small separately.

I don’t think their description of “luxurious”fits so don’t let that scare you away. It is a nice place for a family to vacation. Would’ve liked more info at the site for where things are and how things work. Some of the beds need replacing (which the owner said will happen soon) but otherwise it is a good vacation spot.

Great Place For Kids To Vacation, Aduls Too
Our family rented this property in 2015 and 2016 from the previous owner, but noted no improvements being made so we opted to try other locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin. for the next five years. I then noticed that this property had new owners and our preference was always this property so we spoke with Rebekah and she assured us that some improvements had already been made and more improvements would be made over the coming years.
This property is special. It is close to the metro area, it is peaceful, it has a short, level walk to the lakeshore, it has a sand beach and waterfront, it has two docks, in short, other than needing a few updates, for the price, it cannot be beat. Our grandchildren love it.
Rebekah was very responsive, helpful and a pleasure to deal with.

Family friendly
The location and outdoor recreation is fantastic. We enjoyed the lake during the and campfires in the evening. There are large seating areas and enough space inside for everyone to eat meals and for relaxing. The beds/bedding accommodations could use upgrading. The kitchen could also use some updated cooking utensils and dish cloths/towels. Overall a great time was had by all friends and family.

Great week
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Bass Lake Retreat. Plenty of space for our entire group, and booking the guest house really spread everyone out to feel close, but also enough to have a private space. Lake, dock, beach were great, large areas inside to hang out and play games and cards. Prompt response from owners whenever there was a question.

Annual Family Fishing Trip
The house was the perfect set up for our group of 10, we did plan on a futon in the sun room as advertised but we made do without it. We enjoyed fishing many of the lakes in the area as well as time spent right there on the beach.

Has potential
Property did not match description. Unexpected steps up/down throughout the house were safety hazards (we added green painter's tape to highlight.) Doors on bathrooms would not lock or close (made signs occupied or not.) Need deep clean or just needs cleaning. Burned out Light bulbs need replacement. TVs in every bedroom but no service on them. Until waterheater was replaced there was a very load roar 24 hours a day. Until AC was replaced the house was uncomfortably hot.

third year
This was our families third year staying at this property. We love the location, beach, and size of the house. The property is under new management this year. The house did not seem as clean as in past years. We missed the second refrigerator on the lower level and the charcoal grill. We did bring our own small grill. We also found out we were expected to top off the propane tank for the gas grill so we brought our own tank to use as well. There was no one in the guest house while we were there for the week which we were happy for. Our family did have a great week there, it just seemed that things were not the same as the past two years.

Met the needs of our weekend, but place wasn't "ready" for our arrival
Overall, the place filled our needs. There were ample beds, plenty of seating indoors and out, a nice yard, and a few amenities (grill, paddle boat, kayak, fire pit stocked with wood, etc).
Throughout or stay, however, we experienced numerous frustrating mishaps. The WiFi never worked (not a major problem, but would have been nice to stream music), only people with service had Verizon, the grill was out of propane when we got there, and the boat (which we paid extra for) had a dead battery and only half a tank of gas (why not just full?). Fortunately, the host reimbursed our boat rental fee/the propane, but it definitely put a damper on the weekend. When we showed up there were people moving out of the bunkhouse and they were on the property for a while that evening before vacating which was a bit unexpected (the guy even was still fishing trying to get his last few casts at like 6 o'clock and we checked in at 4🤣).

Needs lots of fixing!
No Ac, was told the upstairs ac works but I work for heating company, ac did not work. Vents leaked water when showering, many faucets had constant leaks, silverware and pots and pans had tons of dust, needs a quick wash, box elder bugs in bed, doors to bathrooms were broken, Wifi only worked if company came out and you have to call not the property owner, wasn’t told a family was living in the guest house, very nice family but couldn’t find anywhere on ad that family was living in guest house. Towels had yellow spots, grill did not have propane which is minor but an inconvenience. Paddle boat sank as soon as put into water. Plenty of potential but property is not recommended.

Early Mother’s Day weekend
The home is very spacious- even bigger than expected. I love that there was plenty of room for everyone. A few basic supplies would have made things even better. There was handsoap mounted to the wall in the kitchen but there was no hand soap in any of the bathrooms and since it was mounted by the sink we had to go into town to buy some. We found toilet paper in the downstairs laundry room after searching. The coffee maker had not been emptied so the old coffee had been left and was moldy. And the kitchen recycle bins were full. The place had obviously been cleaned but maybe just a little attention to a few things would have made it even better. We enjoyed out time there. Thank you.

New Years family celebration
Great communication with owner
Lots of space for lots of people
Comfortable places to be together as a family eating and reading and playing games
Comfortable beds
Beautiful lake. We went xc skiing and snow shoeing every day on the lake. There is a beautiful porch with views of the lake.
This is a family cabin that has been clearly well loved and well used. Wr can see there have been many wonderful family memories made here. Many current vacation rentals are rental only and look like they came out of pottery barn catalog. That is not the case for this cabin.

Beautiful fitting location for our family
The experience at the property was great. Conveniently located & the appropriate amount of room we were hoping for! The house was clean and made up. We brought fishing tip ups; they caught an array of northern pike and a picked up a shovel (none on site) to make an ice skate rink and shovel a walk way to drive way.
However the only one who found their bed comfortable was the master bedroom, the rest I would encourage people to bring a mattress pad to sleep on. Also fridge downstairs did not work -we turned it to cold and felt like it was cooling properly, forgot to check in it & ended up throwing all food the following day after being there, it was warm.
