This luxury vacation home on Round Lake in Hayward, WI sleeps up to 18-20 guests comfortably with amazing lake views. For family gatherings we have space for 10-12 adults and 6-8 kids. And for adult only groups there is space for up to 14-15 guests to sleep comfortably. Sorry, NO pets are allowed.
The home has over 5,000 sq ft with 6 bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. This property is meant for year-round vacationers with heat and air conditioning throughout. There is a gas fireplace on the main floor, so don’t forget about winter getaways, especially your group for the Birkie! One of our most exciting features is a wraparound deck with a fully enclosed screened porch to enjoy spectacular sunsets. The bonus space above the garage has an additional area for guests to enjoy with a toy area and Nintendo Wii U gaming system for the kids.
The basement is meant for entertaining! There is a large lounge area with big screen TV, as well as a kitchen and bar area with an additional TV. And don’t worry, you won’t be disconnected either. There is high speed Starlink satellite Wi-Fi throughout the property for everyone to use. For those rainy summer days we have plenty to do inside including a commercial grade air hockey table, 4-player arcade machine and Shelti foosball table. Check out our pictures to see all the toys!
Walk right out the basement to the large, smokeless firepit with 8 chairs. Enjoy an outdoor game with our custom printed bean bag boards while you lounge by the fire. Or go down the stairs to enjoy the lake, where is a large dock space with a splash pad and kayaks for use.
The cabin is located on the main body of Round Lake with sweeping views of the lake. We are located just minutes from local restaurants Powell’s on Round Lake, The Dock and Tamarack Farms BBQ, pizza and winery. The town of Hayward is only 10 minutes away to enjoy shopping, go karts, mini golf and of course the candy shop!
You can bring your own boat or pontoon to the property and there is ample parking room for a trailer. There is a boat/pontoon lift that will accommodate any pontoon and most boats as well. We require use of the lift overnight and during inclement weather to avoid damage to the dock or boats as well as property of our neighbors. If you are looking for rentals, we recommend contacting Round Lake Marina or Hayward Power Sports to help with pontoon or boat rentals for your visit. If you are interested in renting something for your stay, we recommend calling these places right away as they book fast!
For the summer months of mid-June, July and August, check-in will be on Friday with check-out the following Friday, with 7-night stay required. Off season stays will be a 2-3 night minimum.

We are a group of 11 adults that go on an annual Labor Day trip every year, and this was the best year yet thanks to the Sandalwood Retreat. The house had more than enough space for everyone and their belongings. We were thankful to have two full kitchens and multiple places indoors and outdoors to hang out. Whether we were hanging out as a large group or we were split up into smaller groups or enjoying some alone time, the house accommodated all of our needs without feeling crowded. The hosts also provided awesome indoor and outdoor games that we enjoyed. This is a great place for any large group, and we can't wait to hopefully return next year!

Our family had a wonderful stay at Sandalwood Resort. This house has been well thought out for large groups/families. From two washers and dryers to two ovens. The flow of the kitchen was great when feeding everyone. The screened porch was lovely to sit out on at night. My mom was able to spend most of the day out there, listening to the laughter of the grandkids and great grands. We had four generations in Hayward this year and this truly couldn’t have fit our family better. Thank you!

Our extended family go on vacation to Hayward area every summer, Round Lake is our favorite lake in the area. This is the second year we've stayed at Sandalwood Retreat, and it is still the best place we've stayed.
The house is high-end and has plenty of space for our group of 16. Other than the lake, the screened-in porch is our favorite place to hang out, play cards or eat meals together.
We also enjoyed the paddle board, kayaks, and the air hockey table.
If we can get our schedule's to line up, we'll be booking again for summer 2025.

8 adults and 9 cousins have enjoyed this amazing house and property for 2 years in a row. The house is impeccable. Comfy beds, very well appointed kitchen, amazing screened porch with dining table and couch, fire pit with comfy and plentiful chairs, a basement full of FUN, every room has a walk in closet and full bath, quiet neighborhood, a boat ride to Powells for Lunch or dinner, a separate living space above the garage perfect for extra sleeping space, a Lilly pad that got hours of use with our family all on an amazing, super clear lake. The owners TJ and Kendall are super easy to work with, always check in to be sure we have everything we need and have built an incredible lake home that we love to enjoy!

Our stay at this beautiful home was absolute perfection! The house accommodated our large group perfectly! Private areas with attached bathrooms, and bedrooms throughout the home created a retreat, when needed! The communal gathering areas were comfortable spacious and had all the amenities we could have asked for! We look forward to returning hopefully soon!

We rented this property to stay after my Dad's Celebration of Life. It was the perfect location and home to enjoy time with Family and Friends. It was well stocked and so easy to enjoy time with many people. We didn't have great weather which made the huge screened in porch a life saver. This home is so well appointed and the owners are very responsive. Would rent again if heading back to the area. Loved It!

Our group of 9 adults and 4 babies and toddlers just had our yearly winter gathering for the second time at the sandalwood retreat and it was just as fabulous as last year.
The rooms are diverse but fantastic and offer all the comforts you could want- pack and plays fit in the closet, ensuits in three of them, comfortable beds, extra linens and they are all super quiet, even when there's a ruckus in the livingroom. The annex over the garage was a great spot for the childless among us to retreat but also a wonderful play area for the kids.
We cooked several delicious meals in the large, beautiful kitchen and enjoyed all the games and play spaces in the basement. We do dream of visiting again in the summer to enjoy the outdoor spaces more but the house is so large that we never felt cooped up.
Our hosts were wonderful to work with and responded quickly to any questions. We would absolutely stay here again!

Perfect location for our family! We brought our boat for the first time - the lift worked great - seemed like it could fit a lot of boats. Lake was great - lots to explore, and it wasn't small. The house was loaded with toys and games any kind of group would work here:). We had a great time!

We enjoyed the opportunity to be together in a home that gave all family members the space and flexibility to enjoy each other’s presence as well as time to be apart and respectful of each person’s feelings or needs. Family dinners were especially enjoyed because of the space allowed for comfortable gatherings of 12 people (4families). The nightly fires in the yard overlooking the lake were especially enjoyable.

We had the best week, probably my favorite VRBO of all time! The house is SO cool, stylish, spacious and perfect for a big group. We had 18 people and we all had our own space but also the house has great gathering spaces. The screened in porch is great with a table and a lounge area, we loved the fire pit and chairs, we had so much fun playing in the basement and countless hours jumping off the pier into the crystal clear lake. Leading up to our stay and a couple questions to Thomas while we were there, he was fantastic. I honestly don’t think I ever waited more than 5 minutes for an answer from him! The house is clean, the property is gorgeous and we enjoyed so many beautiful sunsets! Highly recommend!

The property is fantastic. The layout of the house was well designed for our party of extended family, plenty of space for all of us to hang out together, or be away from each other when needed. The screened porch was one of our favorite places to relax. Games in the basement provided great entertainment when we had too much lake time. Round Lake is a beautiful, clear lake, our family enjoyed jumping off the dock and swimming when we needed a break from the boat. I highly recommend this property.

We’ve stayed at many properties through VRBO and this one was top notch. The property managers were very proactive and responsive in communicating before and during arrival. Boating, fishing, swimming, beautiful sunsets and lots to do inside when the weather didn’t cooperate with the game room, open living area and spacious screen porch. We couldn’t ask for more and hope to return in the future.

Words from my 10 year old! Of course, she said that last year too! This was our 2nd year staying at this house. Since a devastating cancer diagnosis, our mutigenerational family made an effort for the last two summers to get everytone together. At the same time:) That is hard to do with busy schedules but worth the effort.
This property has been a blessing to us. It has provided respite and a well needed break for our family. It has provided opportunities for joyful memories to be made. Could any other place do that?-probably. But this house is perfect for us. It provides space and activities for kids and quiet spots when the adults need to take a break!:). The screen porch is genius, the firepit is a great gathering place. The boat lift- awesome addition! The house is impeccably cared for and clean, modern, well designed, and well stocked. We appreciated the two full- sized refridgerators, the plethora of pots and pans and the dual washer/dryers!
The property is on a crystal clear lake, near great mountain biking trails and in a quiet neighborhood. June fishing was better than usual for us once we found the right spot. Lots of rock bass, some large smally's and good-sized largemouth bass.
We also rented a logrolling log for the week (you can pick up in Hayward) (Keylogrolling.com) and that was a highlight and hours of fun every day for our family.
Truly, there is something for everyone at this property- and plenty of space for a large group.

Very please with the communication and the upkeep and cleanliness of the property. The space above the garage was a wonderful haven for the teenagers and the common areas had ample space for gathering. The screen porch was excellent for morning coffee and the fire pit space was great for sunsets and s’mores. We will definitely be back!

This is an amazing property with wonderful hosts! They surely went out of their way to ensure the comfort of my family and I. Our group of over a dozen loved how spacious this property was, the great amenities, lake (the boat lift was awesome! Thankful for that.), continuous wifi connection, and so much more. We loved the deck and screened porch. Great spot to watch the sunrise! Everyone very much enjoyed the recreation/entertainment area and offerings in the bottom level. This kept us all busy when we were indoors. The space above the garage was also fantastic. All the spaces were amazing!
We were there over the Memorial Day weekend. The hosts were always available and responded quickly. We very much appreciated their thoughtfulness in the comfort and care of their guests, and their kindness and generosity to opening up such personal space to my family and I.

We celebrated my husbands 50th birthday. The house was awesome. We had 21 people in our group and had plenty of room. The game room was awesome and really enjoyed the fire pit and yard.

Great spot for a weekend get away

Our group of 10 friends (+3 babies added this year) decided to begin an annual tradition to allow us the opportunity to spend quality time together as we span over two states. Our visit to Hayward was our first attempt! From the first guest walking in to the last, everyone instantly loved the Sandalwood Retreat. The bedrooms were very comfortable and quiet with large closets (big enough for a pack and play) extra linens and pillows, and lots of storage space. We especially appreciated how everything was high quality and functional like the custom blinds in each room, comfortable seating in the living and dining rooms, and the kitchen pots, pans, utensils and appliances. It was an absolute blast to take full advantage of the game room in the basement, guest suite, bath tub, and easy access to the (frozen) lake! We loved sledding and adventuring with the kiddos on Round Lake! We all left in agreement that the Sandalwood Resort would be an annual repeat. The location, amenities, ease of communication with the host, and price will make us repeat customers for sure. We cannot wait to stay here again!

I can't praise this property enough. I typically do a lake house weekend with ~15 friends, and this has definitely been our favorite place to stay so far! Great location, quiet lake and very good amenities. The house was very clean and the hosts were very responsive to any questions we had. I feel the pictures don't do enough justice to how pretty and well kept this place is. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a place for a medium sized group gathering.
The only heads up I would give is to take a look at the number of beds and the split properly. The hosts will happily clarify on how many bed spots there are if need be!

Our family of 12 had a wonderful week (1st week of Aug '22) at the Sandalwood Retreat. The home is just beautiful (better than pics). Plenty of room for our group. Sleeping arrangements are plentiful. The family room for gathering is massive. We were most impressed with the screened in porch that spans the entire back of the home facing the lake (my favorite part of the house).
A small amount of steps down to the dock and you're off to enjoy Round Lake. We partied on a few different sandbars and enjoyed Powell's on Sunday for live music and some craziness. Decent sized fish were caught during the week ranging from panfish to a 30'' pike. The lake is clear and easy to navigate (large enough to not get bored). Proximity to Hayward is a bonus (groceries, golf, supper clubs, pizza, go-carts).
We rented our pontoon from the local marina which was convenient and efficient. A few trips back to the marina to fill up on gas sure beats hauling down gas cans to the pier. The small neighborhood where the home is located has sparsely traveled roads that made for good morning runs/walks.
We've been traveling to Northern Wisconsin as a group for 14 years and have only revisited the same home once. We were so impressed with this home/lake that we booked for next year already. You can't go wrong with this rental. The owner and manager were great to work with and responsive if needed.

The Sandalwood Retreat is a fantastic place to stay with a large group and is better than the pics on VRBO advertise. We had 9 adults and 6 kids ranging in age from 7 to 15 and never felt crowded. Beds and space for all. The common spaces were great for hanging out, particularly the screened in porch and firepit. The kids had a blast in the basement playing the games.
Round Lake is a beautiful clear lake and swimming right off pier was perfect. The pier was also a great place to watch sunsets and some surprise northern lights.
Beyond being located on Round Lake the location was super convenient. We were within 15 minutes of golf, lumberjack show, and several tasty restaurants with outdoor space to let the kids play while waiting for food.
Communication with the owners and Jeff, the property manager, was easy. Jeff was very responsive to questions prior to our visit as well as when we had an empty propane tank for the grill, bringing a replacement and back-up in less than 30 minutes.
Overall, we had an amazing time at Sandalwood and Round Lake and would consider ourselves lucky to spend future family weeks in the Northwoods here.

Family week at the lake
This property is first class all the way, the hosts thought of everything and is very well supplied. It even included a multi-game video machine that the kids absolutely loved. Temperature control and internet was very good and rooms beds and showers were all very nice. Kitchen was well equipped. The property is located on certainly one of the nicest lakes in Wisconsin. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are looking for a week next year when we can rebook.
