About this villa rental

Our recently refreshed Calabash Villa is a 4 bedroomed, 3 bathroom home sleeping 8 (maximum) comfortably, with private pool. Set in secluded landscaped gardens with Palm Trees, Bougainvillea, Hibiscus and Bird of Paradise Shrubs. It is fully air conditioned with ceiling fans throughout, vaulted ceilings, contemporary styled furnishings and all amenities for a perfect villa holiday. Fast WiFi Internet and Cable TV is provided. The lounge, kitchen and dining area all open out onto the veranda and sun deck making Calabash perfect for al fresco living with a 15ft x 30 ft pool with steps for easy access, gas barbecue, table and chairs, sun loungers with a large umbrella. Relax in the new sofa area whilst reading your book, listening to music or having a sundowner.

Situated on a quiet secluded road, less than 5 minutes walk to Jolly Harbour Marina with its Restaurants, Bars, Shops and Supermarket and a 10 minute walk to Jolly Beach (the best beach on the island in my opinion) with a lovely Beach Bar. Calabash Villa is set in a mature garden with palms, bougainvillea and bird of paradise shrubs and all overlooking a natural lake with abundant wildlife. This private and tranquil setting is ideal for groups, families and couples who want to enjoy this spacious villa, whether it’s the internal Caribbean feel good factor, dining and socialising on the veranda day or night to your favourite music from our bluetooth Bose Sound System.

Calabash Villa is conveniently situated midway between the Jolly Harbour complex and the 5* Sugar Ridge Hotel. You have the luxury of your own pool, drinks on tap, outside dining from your BBQ, all to your favourite music and also less than 5 minutes walk to Jolly Harbour complex, with supermarket, shops, pharmacy, bars and restaurants. The Marina offers yacht charters, round the island cruises and many other tours and adventures. The Pop-Up beach bar and restaurant is right on Jolly Beach providing it’s own sunbeds and umbrellas (free if you use there drinks and lunch facilities). It has full changing facilities. If you want to do your own thing with a cool box from the villa then that’s fine too, there are other sunbeds and umbrellas for hire along the beach. Sandra’s Bar is just 50 yards further along on the left and even closer to the sea, is typically Caribbean, feet in the sand, a more informal restaurant and bar service setting.

All the local beaches have pristine white powder sand, pure blue water and beach restaurants. The four other local beaches south of Calabash are, Valley Church Beach, Ffryes Beach, Darkwood Beach and Turners Beach, all within 6 minutes drive.

At Calabash Villa, all of the bedrooms spacious and naturally they have ceiling fans and air conditioning, vaulted ceilings giving it a light and airy feeling typical of the Caribbean. The bathrooms are all modern with walk in showers or bath. The kitchen is a large open plan affair, so that even if you are prepping or cooking for the BBQ, you are socially inclusive with all that is going on. Designed with emphasis on outdoor living, has external dining, lounge area and BBQ on the patio, pool decks which give the choice of sun and shade areas. All surrounded by mature Caribbean fauna giving you seclusion to enjoy your outdoor living. Your pool is family friendly (4 feet deep) the main entry steps are wide semi-circular making it easy to get in and out, plus the added advantage to act as social wet seating to chat and relax with sundowners.

The villa has free unlimited high speed 4G broadband and WiFi for your use. The Bose Sound System in the lounge has bluetooth connectivity so that you can stream your favourite music. It is normally mains powered, but you can unplug and it will continue streaming on battery power for quite some time on the veranda.

On arrival at the Villa guest are meet by Jovanna, who will pass over your keys, explain the key need to knows about the villa, and Jolly Harbour, plus the villa has a complimentary welcome pack of necessities to get your holiday off to a great start. Jovanna and Villa Management are at your disposal, should you have any problems.

Calabash Villa is unsuitable for wheelchair users, but is reasonably friendly to people with moderate mobility with only 8 steps to get from the driveway to the deck, all the rest of the accommodation is single level, with a small step onto the veranda.

It is simple to get around the Island by either car, taxi or bus, which incidentally drive on the right hand side. The Capital St Johns is home of the cruise liners and international shopping can be found in the totally restored Heritage Quay. Only a few yards away you walk back into history with the old character filled buildings and streets, all safe to walk unlike some Caribbean destinations. In the countryside the many abandoned sugar mills act as a reminder of bygone trade and slavery. Nelsons dockyard is a fully restored working harbour which has won many awards and only a short distance away is Shirley heights and its colonial fort - here there are stunning views over both the sea and countryside. Worth a visit is Betty's Hope which was Antigua’s first sugar estate & some restoration of the ruins have taken place and the Mill is now totally intact. All guests are provided with our “Insiders Guide to Antigua” complied by the owners from over 15 years of experience of visiting the island.

Apart from the beaches there is plenty to do so perhaps try :-

Round the island Catamaran tours, these are larger boats with music, lunches and drinks all provided and Private Yacht Charter can be arranged from the commercial complex in Jolly Marina.

For younger ones there is the Donkey sanctuary which is a simple establishment, but captivating for children who can ‘adopt’ the donkey of their choice. A small fee will make them eligible for a certificate & photo, plus regular updates on their new pet. The sanctuary cares for abandoned, injured and abused animals from all over the island and is a charity. Entry is free.

Alternatively there is rare chance to swim with Sting-rays at Stingray City . A high speed boat takes you out to sea to a pontoon where you can stand or swim in the warm shallow water. Usually about 30 - 40 rays come in from the Ocean and you can then both stroke, hold and feed them. This is a well organised professional excursion, totally safe for children.

Our “Insiders Guide to Antigua” includes details on these and links to many more tours, things to do and see and restaurants, bars and of course our 365 beaches.

With less than a 10 minute walk to the beach and a 3 minute walk to the local grocery store the location of this villa was fantastic. The lush plants and garden are what really separate this villa from the others nearby as you feel totally secluded and honestly with the gigantic pool, enormous deck and all of the seating areas on the deck it made it hard for our family to actually leave the villa!

Calabash Villa was the perfect place for our first-ever visit to Antigua! The location is ideal: super close to the supermarket and amazing restaurants, and a quick walk or drive to the best beaches on the Caribbean side of the island. The house was clean and comfortable, and we loved lazy mornings and tranquil evenings on the lanai. The pool is fantastic—perfect for a late-night dip. Alan prepared us so well for what it would be like at the house and on the island that everything was easy and stress-free all week. The beds were comfortable, you can't go wrong with multiple bathrooms, and we loved being able to eat meals at the house (when we weren't out looking for the island's best roti, rum punches, and coconut shrimp, that is!). We rented a car and drove all over, from St. John's to Long Bay, English Harbour, etc., but quickly found that Jolly Harbour and this villa were the best, most beautiful, and most accessible and friendly parts of Antigua. We highly recommend Darkwood Beach for an afternoon of swimming and off-the-beach snorkeling, Big Head Lobster for a delicious dinner, and renting Calabash Villa from Alan. You won't be disppointed!

The house looks exactly like its photos, even better if that's possible. Four friends each had their own bedroom and 3 1/2 bathrooms, a large bright kitchen with everything we needed, a lovely outdoor sitting area, and the most perfect pool, which the sun kept at the ideal temperature. We liked the privacy, and though we could sometimes hear neighbors, workers, and dogs, it was muffled by the abundance of foliage and bougainvillea. The proximity to all the restaurants, shops, and beach in Jolly Harbour was a plus, and the host's recommendations for places to eat and swim were appreciated! We loved Fryyes Beach and Darkwood Beach especially (and Jolly Beach) and our week was up before we knew it.

My husband and I were so pleased to call Calabash Villa our home for 3 weeks. This villa is as advertised: modern, well maintained and pristine. It met/exceeded our expectations. The villa is well appointed and had everything we needed. We loved the close proximity to the market (a 5 min walk) and to Jolly Beach ( a 10 min walk). Alan, the owner, was wonderful to work with. Very responsive. He provided great info re: Calabash and the island prior to arriving. The management team of Joelle, Jovanna and Ben met our every need/request. Avril did a fabulous job of cleaning each week. We highly recommend Calabash Villa for your next getaway to Antigua!

We stayed here with our two boys (10 and 8). The villa is perfect- beautifully done with spacious bedrooms and great outdoor hang out areas. Very comfortable with everything you need! The location is just outside of jolly harbour on a rough road so definitely recommend getting a car- especially if you want to go to some of the other beaches. We spent most days at Darkwood Beach where the snorkeling was great!
