Communication with the host was great from the start. He was even able to accommodate a slight date change for us. The house was very clean and you could tell they took pride in its appearance and upkeep. There were quite a few things they asked for guests to do to help keep it clean and bug free, like removing shoes before entering, setting the garbage outside for them to remove regularly, and doing food prep and consumption out on the lanai. These were easy enough to accommodate. We would stay there again.

Lovely cottage with Hawaiian motif. Quiet and secure. Scott was very responsive and even bought a steamer to help with our travel wrinkled clothes. We were attending a special event and were very appreciative. We had a great grilled breakfast on the patio of local eggs and vegetables. Would stay again!

Needed a respite from the insanity of life and the world and found it at Hale Hapu'u. The images are nothing compared to the reality of the house and the surrounding garden. The most beautiful and peaceful place we have ever stayed at and looking forward to staying at again. The house and grounds are immaculate and Scott has built a true homage to Hawai'i and the culture. The Hale Hapu'u is clean and comfortable and the outdoor "spa" tub was perfect! We enjoyed spending mornings having breakfast on the porch and listening to the sounds of nature around us. Quiet, comfortable, peaceful, soul nourishing. Absolutely loved it.

From the moment we pulled into the property, we knew that we were in for a unique experience. The grounds are immaculate and provide a perfect oasis for the local wildlife that we enjoyed experiencing all day. The layout of the Hapu’u is perfect and the personal touches of the wood carvings provide a wonderful touch of Hawaiian culture. Every morning was like waking up in paradise. Scott provided so much detailed and informative information ahead of time, this helped greatly in planning our stay on the big island. He also included everything you would need to ensure a relaxing and stress free stay, including unlimited coffee, bath towels and bubble bath for the outdoor bathtub. This place is just simply magical and we were very lucky that we were able to stay here.

This is the place to go to get out of the hustle and bustle of the cities. Close enough to both Hilo and Volcano National Park. The setup and details of the unit are next level unbelievable! Thank you for a great day... hope to stay again some day soon.

If you want to take a break, this is the place. Everything you need. A tranquil patio, outdoor tub if you want to spoil yourself. Quiet, clean, cool interior decor. We only spent one night but could have happily stayed longer. There is a town about 12 miles away with restaurants.

What a special stay! The house is immaculate and every intentional detail of the property you will continue to soak up throughout the stay. We loved the ambiance, the outdoor bathtub was a treat, the towels and bedding were soft and very comfortable. The Coqui frogs singing like an exotic bird and rain fall singing us to sleep was such an experience. Literally had every amenity we could desire. Delicious never ending coffee was a treat. Highly recommend!!

The place is absolutely beautiful, the area is really quiet, the decor inside and outside is very dreamy. It has all the amenities for cooking so we grilled our own food without even going to restaurants. The bath tub area is very romantic to enjoy with a glass of wine and sound of birds. The hosts are very responsive and if you need anything you can reach out to them anytime. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends.

The details of the instructions, cleanliness of the cottage, AMAZING carvings and ambiance are perfect. The location is a very welcomed distance from all of the city hustle and bustle. Every detail was amazing and Scott is a great communicator to make sure our stay was too notch. Pahoa is a cool and cozy community with some excellent food and close proximity to all the windward attractions. There is so many ch good mama and plenty of aloha at this spot. We will definitely recommend to friends and family.

While this location may be off the beaten path, it was so worth it to find the peace and tranquility that surrounded us here! The pictures do not do this wonderful spot justice! The space was much bigger than it seemed. The craftsmanship, furnishings, and decor are top-notch. The hosts have thoughtfully labeled everything, which is so appreciated especially when arriving to a new spot after a long day! They also have made available so many extra items to make your stay feel like a luxurious retreat! A hidden gem! I will definitely be letting anyone I know coming to east Big Island!!

Scott and Tracy have created a very unique and imaginative place with many creative touches. At the same time, every little detail has been thought out. We especially enjoyed the outdoor tub and the sounds of frogs and birds singing. It’s one of the most memorable stays we’ve had anywhere.

Needed to get away from central Texas hustle and bustle. Property was exactly what we were looking for. Location was just out of the way enough while still being close enough to the things we wanted to do. Owners were very accessible while maintaining to the feeling of privacy for their guests. My wife and I will recommend to our friends and family.

I don't even know where to begin with describing what a cool little space this is. The furnishings and attention to detail with the design, implementation and comfort of space was top notch. We only stayed for 2 nights as lodging to use while we visited Volcano National park and while it's a little far and in kind of a strange neighborhood, it was well worth any minor inconvenience. My wife was ecstatic about the outside tub and we constantly noticed cool details the whole time we were there. Just loved it!

If you are looking for a beautiful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this is your perfect Big Island home away from home! Scott was easy to work with from booking to check-out. We found the location fairly central to all the activities we wanted to do, including downtown Hilo, Volcanoes National Park, and the black sand beach. The bed was very comfortable, and the frogs sang us to sleep every night!

This place was great! Looks just like the pictures. Very clean, well stocked with essentials and a comfy bed. The tub outside was wonderful, with plenty of bath products and privacy screens to pull down. Owners were very responsive and clear communicators. *This is a guest house on a fenced property, so the owners are near by for any issues. They were very respectful of our space which made the unit private. We would definitely recommend staying here!

This property was awesome! It was beautifully decorated in a Hawaiian theme. Bed was comfortable. Location was great with a gated entrance and close to the ocean. Outside grounds were beautiful as well. Hosts were great about communicating property info and things to do. We loved it there and will stay there again when we visit Hawaii.

This place is nothing short of amazing! If you are in the area or on the big island, you would be silly to not stay here. The bathtub outside and the lovely patio outside were our favorite parts. This is the definition of R & R. We only wish we would have stayed for at least 2 nights, not just 1. We will be back next time we visit.

The property managers are owners and live close by. It’s nice to know that they’re so close and accessible yet the cottage feels extremely private as well as safe. I enjoyed the outdoor bathtub with amples supply of aromatic and healthy bubble baths candles singing Coqui frogs, water fountains, in private Garden. There is ample supply of coffee tea and snacks. The owners recommended a supermarket on the way from the airport and I stocked up on a few essentials, as supermarkets are a little far. There’s nice scenic ocean cliff walks a few minutes drive away. Wi-Fi connection was super easy. The bed is super comfortable, as as the living room furniture. The owners have created such Kitchi Hawaiian atmosphere as a designer of resort properties I just had to stay on it and experience it! Everything on the interior is actually done with quite quality, and an eye for detail, I was very impressed. I would definitely stay here again and next time bring a partner. The only thing I would suggest for the owners is that if they have all-terrain bicycles available, so you could easily bike to the beach, and explore the neighborhood. That is the only suggestion I would make but was not disappointed in anyway! They had chairs available to go and sit at the beach. They also had umbrellas but I didn’t need it!
