Aloha-We bet that because you’re reading this you’ve looked at the descriptions of many vacation rentals on Kauai.  Likely all of them gave glowing descriptions of how wonderful they are – and no doubt many indeed are. Here is why our condo should be at the top of your list!

Location!  Lae Nani, appropriately named, meaning “beautiful face” in Hawaiian, is a gathering of approximately 80 condominium units on the east side of the island, known as the Coconut Coast. Lae Nani exudes an old Hawaii charm. It is situated on the coast of Wailua Bay, one of the most sacred places on the island and the ancestral home to the Hawaiian Royals. In fact, the stone remains of a sacred temple, known as a "Heiau”, sit on the edge of this property and it is still visited and used by local Hawaiians today. In addition to the Heiau, the property features five acres of showcase tropical foliage, including palm and banyan trees and a wide variety of flowering plants. Lae Nani is located in the quaint town of Kapa’a, midway between the verdant north shore and many of the attractions found to the south. It is only minutes from the airport in Lihue. In addition, it is conveniently close to shopping and restaurants, many of which are within easy walking distance, yet it is peacefully secluded behind its gated entrance.

Our apartment is located on the second floor in building 5 (#526) and is steps from the beach and the waves of the Pacific Ocean. Swimming and snorkeling are of course favorite activities, as is sunbathing on the sandy beach. There’s even a lava-rock-enclosed “Keiki” pool that is shallow enough for little kids and timid oldsters to enjoy.  Views from the lanai, over Wailua Bay, are panoramic and unforgettable.  Unlike many other possibilities you may have read about, our apartment does not abut the parking lot but rather has a quiet winding sidewalk through lush flowering trees and bushes.  As an end unit, our apartment has three sides with windows, making it bright and open.

There are two bedrooms, one with a king-size bed and the other with two extra-long twin-size beds. *Note: The twin beds do not convert to a king. The kitchen is well stocked, and it faces the ocean allowing the cook to be part of the fun. The two fully-equipped ensuite bathrooms have walk-in showers. The lanai has chaise lounges and a bar-height table that allows guests an unobstructed view of the bay, where you’ll see expert surfers, kiteboarders, and the occasional dolphin or whale. The condo is equipped with internet, cable, boogie boards, beach towels, and beach chairs. To keep the ‘feel’ of old Hawaii, we have opted not to install air conditioning. During the midsummer months, when nights can be warm, as well as during the infrequent times that trade wind breezes aren’t present, multiple fans, including ceiling and free-standing, are available to help keep you cool. The decision not to install AC allows windows to be left open day and night so you can enjoy the sound of the waves, the sweet smell of plumeria, and the soft cooing of the endangered shearwater bird.

The property amenities include a large saltwater swimming pool that is heated during the winter months, plenty of poolside lounge chairs, private parking, gas barbeques, and a tennis court for your use. Lastly, there’s an on-site manager and a friendly staff with an aloha spirit. Everything is well-maintained, clean, and accessible. Lastly, Dan, Kara, Jim, Cathy, Meg, Bill, and Ruth Brown own our Lae Nani home. We have owned and loved our condo for over 10 years. We recently decided to self-manage the property on VRBO when our long-time on-island manager retired. We will continue to manage the property until we find a small personal management company that fits the needs of our family. Beautiful place, steps to the beach! Amazing stay! The property and housekeeping managers were exceptional to communicate with. My only suggestion - for checking in, guests receive a separate email to just provide which building to go to and access codes to have it all in one email. Front desk doesn’t have guests names attached to the rooms, only owners.

We stayed at this condo in March/April 2024. The condo was very clean and well maintained. The master bed was comfortable and my teens said that their extra long twin beds were also very comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped and had a very quiet dishwasher. The unit does not have its own BBQ but there are shared grills a short walk away. The unit had 4 beach chairs, 4 boogie boards, 6 large beach towels, a beach umbrella, and a mid sized cooler for our use. Despite not having air conditioning, the many fans and strong ocean breeze was more than enough to keep the condo cool. The condo is on the second floor of a three level building so we could hear some footsteps above and were advised to tread lightly for the guests below us. It was convenient to have a large washer and dryer so that we could pack lightly. The lanai looked directly at the ocean and the beach was clean with soft deep sand. My teenagers boogie boarded, swam, and played catch on the beach daily. There is a tennis court in the complex but it was occupied every time that we tried to play. The pool was small but very clean. There is an awesome restaurant at the hotel next door and the Coconut Market shops (with ABC Store, free hula show, farmers market, shave ice, restaurants, etc) are couple blocks away. Overall we had a great experience staying here and would highly recommend it!

We have stayed at Lae Nani many times so no surprises there. We absolutely love staying there. This 2 bedroom condo was in a great location within the development. The condo was very well stocked with supplies and we really appreciated the extra towels, sheets, etc. Contacted the owner a couple of times with questions and response was immediate and very helpful. The condo was clean and updated. We would definitely stay there again. I can’t think of a single negative thing to say. Mahalo nui loa!

Everything was lovely. The condo has a wonderful view of lush gardens, the ocean and wonderful sunrises! The laundry machine and dryer were most appreciated We have already shared our stay location with another family and highly recommend this property.

We first visited Lae Nani in 1995. This is our tenth trip to the island and staying at this property. Lae Nani is truly lovely. We loved this condo and is definitely one of our favorites. Everything was wonderful. The condo was well supplied and comfortable. We appreciate the owner’s help with our last minute reservation request. Thank you Kara!
