Hotel was in a perfect location on the Riverwalk and the staff was amazing, very accommodating. The Hotel and the room were extremely clean and comfortable. We will definitely look to stay here again when revisit San Antonio!

I was very disappointed with the safety of the bath tub and thus I did not take a shower and that is an essential part of my day. It is a deep tub and NO grab bars for safety. The only thing one can hang on to is a single water "handle". Shame on you for having a luxury hotel that is not safe for the visitors. I should get a discount for not using the towels!

I liked the hotel a lot. The breakfast was good but the dinner was surprisingly just mediocre. One item that bothered my room was so close to the three elevators that I could hear them all the time. Otherwise, a beautiful, and well-run hotel.

We arrived early, we have stayed here in the past and have never had a problem with check in, even a little early..So our room wasn’t ready, that was fine, but at 4:00, sitting in the lobby, watching numerous people check in and get their room…I got a little impatient. I was told that our level of room, and the price we paid, we would have to wait. So apparently booking through a 3rd party expect to wait. The hotel is older, but the rooms are spacious and was very clean. The location in the river is great, very walkable to everything. Breakfast one morning in the Ambler, again we have been before..the food is good, but the service was very slow. We sat at the bar for drinks two evenings and the staff was excellent, Michael at the bar was very friendly and sweet.

This hotel is amazing! Very friendly staff. Happening scene. On the riverwalk. Close to everything! 8 minute walk to Alamo and 12 to the Alamodome. Service at Ambler was really slow. But everyone always made sure we had everything we needed, especially Fast Eddie. Our favorite part was the gorgeous rooftop pool. I also had a massage, which was well worth it. Thank you Jesse.

Lovely location on the river walk. Property is beautiful. Spacious comfortable suite over looking the river walk. Small areas were showing challenges of big older property. Restaurant was excellent. They were smoking meat on the patio several evenings. Hotel Contessa made a work week enjoyable

Fantastic room. King suite room was biggest ever seen City view, it was but mostly roof top and back of building. Guess we weren’t high enough. No Breakfast but restaurant is open. River walk only 2 block walk to everything. 6 blocks from Alamo. Worst thing is no parking. Had to park 2 blocks away so that sucked and not safe for vehicle.

Overall awesome place, tucked away on the quiet side of the riverwalk, short walking distance to everything. On site restaurant was awesome. The only cons I have are pretty important to me, cleanliness and plumbing. There were several pretty gnarly stains in the carpet and couple of them had thick dried (something) in them. We also found a hoop body piercing in the carpet. The shower drained super slow. Trying to shower off two toddlers quickly turned into a bath and then had to wait 10+mins after before anyone else could get in for a shower. If you were showering, you had 2 minutes before you were above ankle deep water. Also, if you turned the water temp past a certain point it triggered some type of loud sound to come from the mixer. In the morning we had a few crickets in the bathroom as well, don’t know where they came from.

This was my second stay at the hotel Contessa. Every single staff member was amazing and friendly from the front desk to the housekeepers to the bar to the concierge. Eddie was an amazing concierge who was welcoming and could answer any questions. His recommendation for dinner became our favorite spot. The hotel is very convenient to walk to any of the main areas and Riverwalk. The noise level being close to the elevator was not the best. The shower is not designed for a tall person. Plus, it would be nice to have a fan in the bathroom. even with the few negatives, this hotel is in amazing choice

Great hotel right next to Riverwalk. Even though downtown, it was tranquil in our room at night. We upgraded to a small suite which was wonderful. A lovely lobby with a nice bar inside and an inside/outside restaurant, the latter right next to the Riverwalk. We had an excellent breakfast by the walk, watching the ducks and the people walking by. Walkable to many other restaurants, bars (server good rooftop ones), and venues like the convention center. A few minor nits: Nice windows in the room, too bad they had heavy amount of dirt on them, some rust on the bathtub (???), the restaurant offered lattes but were out of any basic flavors.

The room had stained curtains and we had no hot water. That was the biggest issue and reason for overall rating. The bathroom had no air vent. The beds were uncomfortable. But we did have a nice stay, my family and i really enjoyed the pool.

Stayed two nights. First night, I heard the elevator ALL NIGHT LONG! Sounds like a ghost “ooohhhing” over and over again. Asked to move rooms. Ended three floors up and three doors further from the elevator. In the second room, the AC wouldn’t cool enough but I didn’t want to seem demanding so I just dealt with it. Very minimal improvement on the noise. Then to top it all off, the people in the room next door were VERY vocal during and completely unashamed of their ‘romantic adult relations’ being broadcast from 12:30am-3:30am… the ONLY things positive about the stay were the rooftop pool (although I was sad to see the jacuzzi was out of order) and the amazing staff! Not sure I’d go back again at nearly $800 for a two night getaway.

The beds were very uncomfortable. The room was spacious however the bathroom was fine however the shower floor looked dirty (like it needed to be scrubbed) the pump for the body wash was missing the nozzle so I was unable to use that the coffee maker was broken and the Fiji $8 dollar water in the room was overpriced. For the high price of the room, they could have included complimentary bottled water in the room. I had requested two robes and there was only one included. Nice place however for the amount one pays I believe there are far better hotels in the vicinity.

Great location right on Riverwalk. Very clean hotel. Bar prices a bit high. Only (big) issue was with bathroom plumbing. If you wanted a shower you had to run the taps in the bathroom for 10 minutes to get hot water through the system. Reported it to staff 3x and were told “it’s due to work being done by the city”.

The good: Check-in service and room were amazing. Staff is very friendly. Now to the bad: Check out included over $150 in unrecognized charges at the bar and restaurant, which I never went to. Pool was dirty. When we tried to relax and dip our feet in the water, realized we were sitting in chemical powder that was all over my fiancés legs and bleached my shorts that are now ruined. Hotel desk management was very untrusting of the situation and would not talk to me personally. The over charging and pool cleanliness align with other reviews we’ve seen so this a systemic issue. Great support staff that are very friendly, but concerned with management.

I had to ram the room door in because it was stuck shut, there were menus across the floor when we walked in and the shower seat would not stay in the upright position. We were very disappointed with the room and our stay and will be looking for another hotel to stay at when we go back to San Antonio in a couple of weeks.

The location was great - on the riverwalk but not directly in the ultra busy section. The hotel staff were very friendly & helpful. Our room was well appointed and spacious. The noise level was pretty high from the street, air conditioner & lobby bar area. Elevators were hit or miss (but it was a busy holiday weekend). Overall a great stay.

The Location of the property is probably its best feature after our recent stay. Short walking distance to the Riverwalk restaurant strip made it ideal and the rooftop pool was great to use late at night after dinner. However, hot water in the shower was an issue. Maintenance came to our room and explained they had repaired all the equipment but you need to turn the shower on and the tap in the sink and run for 5 minutes to get the pump working…not what I’d consider 4 star hotel service. Avoid room 1227 and request a change if put into that room if you want hot water when you turn the tap on.

As soon as you walk in the smell of marijuana hits you, it smells inside the elevators halls and part of the room. We could not avoid it very strong especially with a 3 year old not great. The parking was expensive if you use valet wasn’t expecting that. Had to use a parking garage across which was fine just didn’t feel safe walking at night other than that hotel staff was very nice helpful expect for the last person who checked us out he was kind of rude because there was a lot of unexpected charges on the bill, he seemed annoyed and rude.
