We stayed in classic Queen room 114 on the first floor for several nights. The view was nice in that we saw horned sheep and a buffalo out on the front lawns from our room twice. It was a little noisy having someone above us, so I would recommend getting a higher floor facing the lawn. The hotel itself is in a great location for seeing wildlife and looks great from the outside. The inside was a little dated and on the smaller side. It was nice being able to hop in our car and drive the wildlife loop whenever we wanted to though. Overall, if you plan to visit Custer State Park more than one day, this may be the place for you.

The description of 'park view' rooms was misleading; our two rooms should have been more appropriately called 'parking lot view.' For the price we paid per room, the reality was disappointing.

The location is ideal but the rooms need to be updated and the food is limited to just their dining room.

It was a crazy checkin because of the Buffalo RoundUp. Front desk receptionist was wonderful. Highly recommend dinner at the restaurant. The elk ravioli is a winner.

A very nice experience.

Location is fantastic. Scenery is super beautiful. However the hotel needs substantial improvement. Bathrooms need renovation, exhaust fan in bathroom extremely noisy, rust on heat registers, paint peeling from wall, etc. For a $190/ per night you expect much better.

Our t v. Didnt work and a lamp was out but when we told the front desk "on labor day" they had it fixed in a jiffy. The area is beautiful and the breakfast buffet awesome

The room was clean but there was paint peeling in the bathroom and on another wall. The beds were a bit firm. The tv had a poor picture. No Wi-Fi. It’s a neat place but is in desperate need of some updates. We were given instructions on how to find our room but they weren’t very clear. And when we got lost looking we were assisted after being told “ I told you to go around the building” when I replied, it’s dark and I have never been here before I only saw one parking lot” I got a mph. Parking lot isn’t well indicated.

The room reeked of Pinesol to the point it gave me a migraine! I had to leave the windows open all night and it was still bad! The carpet in my room actually felt greasy to walk on! Bathroom was very small & so was the room

Great place to stay in Custer State Park!

It was fun to see the historical section of the lodge. The restaurant is top notch! Ask for Doc to be your server. The hotel style rooms are updated but since they are so old, it is a cramped space.

Checking in staff seemed bothered spoke a different language to each other. No wifi in rooms. Room layout is awful. Would not ever stay again. This was our most expensive place on our road trip and offered nothing for the price. Parking was limited...not an enjoyable stay.

Need to upgrade WiFi so it works in all parts of the facility. No internet in my room.

Quaint lodge nestled inside Custer State Park. Quiet get away with amazing access to 70,000 acre park.

Our waiter was good in every aspect!
Not having WI Fi in the rooms was really not to modern standards.

It was a Beautiful location right in the heart of Custer State Park. You wake up in the morning and there were Buffalo roaming around. We also saw Elk and Deer. Our room was by a running creek and it was super relaxing

The desk clerk could not give me a copy of my bill upon check out and said an email copy was sent to me. It’s been 4 days since check out and still no itemized billing.

It all about the the park and the location. The lobby and lounge is the only place the wi-fi works. It has is old charm and the restaurant is good.
Check could have been more helpful and explained parking better

Very unique property but a bit run down, near a road so noisy, staff was friendly, restaurant was good but not inexpensive. The Custer Park was very beautiful.

Check in staff was very nice, the lobby was very nice, so I had great hopes for our stay. Keep in mind with winding mountain roads it’s a good 25 min to get lunch/dinner. They do have a restaurant here, but due to being off season they only had burger or chili as lunch option. The room was very dated and tiny! On the website it boasted of recently redone rooms. Maybe we just didn’t get a new one? We killed about 8 spiders before bed.. the kids were scared to sleep thinking bugs would crawl on them at night. I’m sure it’s the season here and stopping bugs from getting in is hard. However we’ve stayed in the area a week now and this was our first hotel with issues. The bathroom is so tiny the door touches the toilet and there is barely room to turn around or get dressed. We would not stay here again

Too many stairs.

Beautiful area, rooms were okay. We had a lot of flies in our room.
It would have been nice if we had wi-fi in the rooms. Currently there is only wi-fi available in the lobby.

Creek side lodge is very clean and comfortable. Check in was quick and easy. The lodge is located in the middle of Custer state park which is an amazing part of the black hills area. Beautiful scenic drives in every direction and close to Mt Rushmore.

I had a room in the lodge on the first floor, which overlooks the parking area, main road and forest beyond it. Because of the proximity to the parking and road, I had quite a bit of noise (my stay overlapped Sturgis, so lots of loud motorcycles) when people would initially start up or drive by. It was quiet at night however, so it didn't disturb my stay. Proximity to Wildlife Loop, Wind & Jewel Caves, Badlands and all the hiking is great. The onsite restaurant was inconsistent both in service and food quality. I had 2 nights of great service/food and 1 night where both were just ok. Would stay here again, just due to the location, but would request a room on the 2nd floor of the lodge to minimize road noise, and would likely opt to eat elsewhere.

We were expecting so much more. This was probably the place I was most excited to stay on our out-west vacation. No one was at the reception desk when we went to check in, we had to wait for someone who was not very friendly. The rooms were very clean, that being said I was told there was a fly problem and we had to deal with flys ALL NIGHT long and the next morning. The rooms were a little snug to say the least. The girl that checked us out in the morning was very friendly. We ate at Blue Bell and that was fantastic. Loved seeing the wildlife.

When I booked this stay, I had no idea that the hotel was smack in the middle of Custer State Park. Our intention was to stay her on our way to Yellowstone to stop and see Mt Rushmore. We found out there was so much more to do in the area and we were disappointed we couldn't stay longer.
The hotel itself has a rustic feel. The bathroom is small compared to modern hotels, but the room itself was very spacious. The TV stations needed to be re-scanned on the TV and then they still didn't come in very well, but we weren't there to watch TV, so it didn't bother us very much. Overall, I would love to stay here again or in one of the many cabins offered.
