Overall a good stay and we would return.
Location, in the centre of the town. Next to a beautiful park and leisure facilities. All attractions and shops within walking distance. Parking £6 for 24 hours for hotel visitors, not many spaces because they are public ones but we were lucky and dropped on one.
Receptionist was exceptionally kind, attentive and helpful.
Room, spacious, clean and warm. Beautifully decorated and this gives it a comfortable opulent feeling to match the grand old historcal building.
Evening restaurant experience was disappointing, expensive for food that was nothing special. Incomplete cheese board, no grapes, however no prior warning which would have influenced our choice. Breakfast was a buffet, typical choices and fresh, however room to hughly improve using locally sourced organic food which would ooze flavour and make it a breakfast to remember.

Check in was nice and quick by friendly staff.
Room very spacious, large bathroom, comfortable bed, room nice, clean and warm.
Breakfast was great, help yourself to anything that was available.
The hotel is very old with lots of character, great building.
Everyone was very polite and helpful, gave us some great information with what was going on around Buxton and how to get to Bakewell on the local transport.
Great stay, would definitely stop here again, when next coming up that way.
Thanks.

Arrived around 2.15 pm and told abruptly check in doesn't open till 3 pm. End of discussion.
Bathroom had not been cleaned properly.
Several barking dogs in rooms

Ideally situated for all amenities. Room comfortable. Breakfast spot on, but because the plates were cold, the hot food cooled before we had finished eating. Warm plates would have made a big difference.

Hotel close to the centre of the town and only a minute walk from the opera house and gardens. Looks like some refurbishment in progress. Tidy rooms but some of the chairs a touch fragile. Rooms clean. Parts of the hotel look like they could do with a bit of redecorating. Lift in the hotel but small and temperamental with sliding door on inside which if not closed stops the lift working (left open by a guest on a top floor so needed to be closed to resume working) Good breakfast. Parking outside the hotel but was busy. A ticket from the hotel covered 24hrs from issue. Otherwise it's pay and display which could be expensive as time limited during the day.

Perfectly adequate 3star hotel. A touch of nostalgic faded glory. Tired carpets, overworked staff ( and too few of them ) and unadventurous evening menu.
Comfortable, warm room and a good shower.
£9 for a small glass of wine seemed excessive but it was well chilled!
1.0
Freezing cold room. Very dated decor, damaged furniture and in desperate need of rennovation.
Would not stay again

The hotel itself is dated with it's decor and layout but the staff are excellent and very welcoming. Our room was nice and big, we had views across the pavilion gardens and the bed was nice and comfortable. The shower was spot on with very good temperature and pressure. Plenty of plug sockets and a reasonable TV. A hotel with charm and character rather than a soulless chain.
2.5
Fantastic hotel and really lovely staff. The breakfast was good and because it was cooked in small batches, hot and fresh.
Coffee served in a cafetiere and tea in a teapot.
We ate in the bar one evening and the food was delicious.
The room we stayed in was large with a very comfortable 4 poster bed. Bathroom was large and supplied with shower gel, shampoo and hand wash. Large bath towels were a bonus.
Parking outside the hotel is £6 for 24 hours with a ticket from reception.
I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Excellent room with a lovely cooked English breakfast.

Slightly down at the heel, but really comfortable, clean and great service.
Very good breakfast too.

Relaxing. Comfortable. Excellent food. Would recommend this hotel

We love this hotel, the location is perfect, and surprisingly not noisy. The breakfast was perfect with excellent food and service in the very nice dining room.
We did book an evening meal and had a few problems, we discussed this with senior staff and the bill was adjusted accordingly so we are happy.
I believe Ensana who also own the Buxton Crescent Hotel look like they have severely restricted the budget for the Old Hall, some areas have been decorated/maintained but first impressions for someone first visiting are awful, I don’t know why they fitted the new doors by the entrance I can only think they are temporary, due to financial problems both are now up for sale, hopefully old hall hotel will then get attention it deserves with new owners.
There seems to be quite a few issues with staff reliability, again maybe budget (and job security) you can still have a lovely time here, we did, just hope whoever buys it don’t price us out.

Weather was ok for September grand theatre was beautiful

Fabulous stay prior to a show. The hotel was amazing. From check in (with complimentary glass of champagne) and throughout our stay the staff were professional, attentive and welcoming. Everything about this place was just perfect. Centrally located, stylish decor and classy without being pretentious.
Would definitely recommend.

No negatives for this hotel..lovely staff big clean bedroom and amazing breakfast
2.5
Very quaint hotel - a bit worn - but clean.
Our only quibble is that we cannot understand why they don’t level up the beds . It’s a bit uncomfortable sleeping in a slope.

Hotel was clean but looked a little tired in some areas. Overall a good stay however the rooms seem to be overly warm for the time of year making sleeping more uncomfortable

The location of Old Hall is excellent and this needs to be factored into the price you pay compared to other nearby hotels and the quality of them.
Breakfast is fresh and tasty with enough variety and this is included in the price, which many aren't.
This hotel offers comfort, my bed was fine, room was spacious. Floor are unlevel, of course they are, it is an old hotel, it has character reminiscent of days past, yes it's worn and needs renovation but to upgrade to meet everybody's needs would surely involve significant cost which would then place it at similar pricing to Ensana, making it then inaccessible to many, including me -if you want modern, high tech and clinical don't book this, but comfort, convenience and character for me means a lot. Short staffing may have been an issue when I stayed but unfortunately everywhere you go it's the same or this reflects in price I'm finding, and it's a sign of the times sadly, times are tough and we all need to be a little kinder and tolerant where it allows us to be, obviously I'm not suggesting complaints shouldn't be raised and addressed where relevant. I found the staff who I encountered warm and welcoming and therefore I am booking again for the new year as you cannot get a better location for the Opera House.

A step back in time. Traditional hotel as they used to be

The hotel and room looked like it needed a good clean and vacumm everywhere. Dusty glasses in our room and the room very shabby. The hotel was also far too hot. Comfy bed though and good breakfast x

So bad we checked out after 15 minutes. The room was filthy, when I went to reception to complain they said it was because we were in a dog friendly room. I’m guessing that the previous occupants dog ate biryani as it was all over the floor!
The entrance to the hotel was very dilapidated, as were the corridors and our room. Wallpaper was hanging off the walls and water stains everywhere.
The images they show online are nothing like any of the areas we saw and the dust in the room was thick, clearly not having been dusted for months.
The bedding was dirty, cracks in the walls and ceiling and the telephone was filthy. The tea/coffee tray was heavily stained with various hairs all over.
The bed rest was covered in a thick layer of dust and all the areas of carpet by the skirting boards were thick with dust.
The chairs in the room were stained and thick with dust. It looked like the room hadn’t been cleaned properly for many months.
The bathroom was clean but very dilapidated. The furniture in the room was very old, heavy and dated. The room we had looked nothing like the photos on the website.
We complained to the manager who was helpful and asked housekeeping to go and clean the room. When the housekeeping staff came to reception I heard them say to the manager that the room was ‘a sh*t tip’.
We had traveled from Southampton and the last thing we wanted to do was find another hotel, but to be honest we’d rather have slept in the car! We did get a refund thankfully.

First time for our visit. Will visit again so pleased with every aspect of our stay .... Thankyou...

Good things were the comfort and cleanliness and opposite the opera house, and easy walking distance to shops etc. poor things were tatty exterior, £6 per 24 hours parking which wasn’t made clear, lack of charm, but would use again for ‘a night at the opera’.
2.0
Near to the train station so easy by public transport and walkable to the Buxton shops cafes and main streets.
Nice parks just over the road and the Buxton water fountain.
Very uneven floors but it is an old hotel.
Breakfast was OK.
Room was a bit small/ difficult to open and close doors.
Clean.
Lots of character.
2.5
An old hotel with character. Never know whether the next step is up or down on the amazingly uneven floors. Some people may find that annoying I found it charming.
4.0
Historic hotel that for its age offered an experience you don’t get elsewhere.
1.0
Walked in and found it shabby, including carpets. Old building and furniture. Everything else acceptable. Booked for 2 nights in a double room for me and my husband. Had a dreadful nights sleep in a 4ft bed which was very uncomfortable. Woke at 2am, by 5am had made up our mind to leave. This room should have been advertised as a large single. Never stay here again, wouldn’t recommend it.
2.5
We love this hotel. Old & quirky.
In town & close to everything in Buxton.
Very comfortable, & clean. Plently of got water, soft towels & good toiletries.
Amazingly dog friendly. You can take breakfast in a separate room so your dog can join you.

Great location wonderful room

Highly recommend. Room perffect but public areas like corridors and lift need sprucing up. Still an excellent place to stay right in the centre of beautiul Buxton.

We were supposed to be able to check in at 3. We eventually got our room key at 4pm after repeatedly asking the reception staff. We had an early pre theatre dinner reservation booked which meant we didn't have the relaxed getting ready time we were anticipating. The four poster bed in room 1 was very uncomfortable and small so neither of us had a good nights sleep.
2.0
Pleasant stay comfortable room plenty of hot water. Bar area felt a little grubby with torn fabric on seating and sticky tables. breakfast excellent but got the feeling the hotel was short staffed throughout
4.0
Overall the hotel was fine. It’s quirky with its wonky floors and ceilings, it’s very old so expect this. Staff were friendly, room was lovely and spacious with a fantastic view. Had a proper single bed for our teenage son which was excellent rather than most other hotels only offering a sofa bed. Had a bath as well which is wonderful. Breakfast was help yourself which was fine. Parking is limited but we were lucky to get a space right outside. It’s first come first served. £6 for 24 hours pay int the hotel, so not too bad if you manage to get a space. No room service available I did ask at reception, there’s a little bar in the hotel that sells food up to 9pm I think, but not our cup of tea really. Overall it was fine.

The Hotel was good, in a great location overlooking the Pavilion Gardens and central to the whole of the centre of Buxton. The staff were very helpful and polite. The only thing that disappointed me was that our room needed some tlc to smarten it up, but overall a great base 😎
